4. In the case of deliveries made under the warranty, which are not subject to the return of the

old parts, these parts must be kept for the purpose of further decisions for a period of four weeks after receipt of the warranty claim.

Product Specification Each machine manufactured and assembled is serialized and provided a number for tracking purposes. There is a model number, which is the category for product family of the machine, and there is a serial number.

The serial number may also be known as, or part of, a Product Identification Number. This number is a formulated number which details the machines build information for tracking purposes and easy identification later during time of service, maintenance and replacement part ordering. The Serial number, along with Model number of the machine, can be found on the Serial Number Tag.

HORSCH, LLC has placed a Serial Number Tag (reference picture below) on the machine with the above mentioned information. It is located on the main frame cross member tube directly behind the front hitch, just off center towards the left-hand side of each machine.

Record the Model and Serial number of the machine below. Retain this page for customer use only! Wear Protective Clothing Protective Clothing For operation and maintenance of this machine, you will need:

• Snug fitting clothing; no loose articles or strings. • Safety gloves and goggles to protect against dirt and sharp-edged

machine parts.

Use a Safety Chain

A safety chain will help control drawn equipment should it accidentally separate from the drawbar. A safety chain of the proper strength rating is provided with the machine as standard equipment.

Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support, seed wagon rear hitch support, or other specified anchor location. Provide only enough slack in the chain to permit turning.

Road Traffic Safety The valid road traffic regulations are to be observed when traveling on public roads, paths and areas. Do not exceed the maximum permissible transportation widths and heights and install road lighting equipment, warnings and safety covers where necessary. Do not exceed the permissible axle loads, tire carrying capacities and total weights, in order to ensure sufficient steering and braking capabilities. Handling is affected by the implement connected. It is important to take into account the large overhang and the centrifugal mass of the implement, particularly when cornering. DO NOT EXCEED A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 20 MPH DURING TRANSPORTATION. LOSS OF VEHICLE/MACHINE CONTROL CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH! The whole machine is to be cleaned of soil that has been collected before travel on public roads. Be sure to thoroughly clean the debris from the rear RollFlex packer system.

Do not travel on roads with the rear RollFlex packer system on the ground. This may cause damage to the roads and premature wear and possible malfunction of components to the machine. Passengers are strictly forbidden to ride on the machine.

Extracting Stuck Machine Safety & Guidelines Follow proper hooking and towing recommendations below for extracting stuck machines. If damage is incurred to a machine during extraction due to improper procedure, any applicable warranties may be void!

• Avoid wet, water logged and muddy ground conditions so as not to get stuck. • Assess the situation around the stuck machine before attempting extraction. • Know when to call a professional for assistance in towing, lifting and extraction. • Use properly rated equipment – larger tractor/truck, tow ropes/straps, clevises, chains,

cables, etc. • Practice proper hooking and pulling techniques. Know where proper hooking points are

at on a machine so as not to damage the machine. Do not hook or pull the machine from the rear packer system. Attach to a tie down location or the main frame. Do not pull the machine sideways. Pull in a straight line as much as possible.

• Pull force should not exceed normal operating conditions. • Be aware of overhead power lines to avoid risk of serious damage and/or personal injury. • Be aware of ditches or rocks to avoid tipping hazards of equipment. • All bystanders are at risk of serious injury and must stand clear of extraction area for their

own personal safety. • Inspect machinery after recovery. Make any necessary repairs before putting the machine

back into service.

Service and Maintenance Precautions • Ensure that regular tests and inspections are always carried out to

schedule, as specified in the operating instructions. • Prior to performing maintenance and servicing work, ensure that the

machine is positioned on firm, level ground and that it is properly secured against rolling away.

• De-pressurize the hydraulic system and lower or support the implement.

• After cleaning, check all hydraulic lines for leaks and loose connections. • Check hoses for chafing and signs of other damage. Remedy any faults immediately! • Prior to working on the electrical system, disconnect it from the electric power supply. • Retighten screwed connections which had been loosened during servicing and

maintenance work.

Do not wash new machines with a steam-jet or high-pressure cleaner. The paint takes approximately 3 months to cure and could thus be damaged if this time has not yet expired.

Connecting the Hydraulic System

Leaking out hydraulic fluid can cause serious injuries! Danger of injuring by unwanted machine movements. Connect the hydraulic lines only when the hydraulics have been depressurized on both the machine and the tractor. In the event of an injury, seek medical attention immediately! Hydraulic lines are identified by colored hose handles to avoid mixing up by mistake. (See also Hitching/Unhitching the Machine)

When operating hydraulic components, slow down the control unit before the machine components reach the stop position.

• Do not connect hydraulic lines to the tractor before both hydraulic systems (machine and tractor) are depressurized.

• The hydraulic system is under high pressure. Check all lines, hoses and screwed connections regularly for leaks and any visible external damage!

• Only use appropriate aids when checking for leaks. Repair any damage immediately! Oil sprays can cause injuries and fire!

• In the case of injury, contact a doctor immediately!

The control units on the tractor must be secured or locked when not in use or when the machine is in transport position, in order to prevent accidents caused by unintended hydraulic movements or movements caused by persons other than the operator (children, passengers).

Pressure Accumulator Depending on the equipment of the machine, the hydraulic system may have a pressure accumulator installed. Do not open or work (welding, drilling) on the pressure accumulator. Even after being emptied, the accumulator is still preloaded by gas pressure. Always depressurize the pressure accumulator before starting work on the hydraulic system. The pressure gauge should not indicate any pressure. The pressure gauge reading should drop to 0 psi. Only then may service be carried out on the hydraulic system. Service and Maintenance

• Ensure that regular tests and inspections are always carried out to schedule, as specified in the operating instructions.

• Prior to performing maintenance and servicing work, ensure that the machine is positioned on firm, level ground and that it is properly secured against rolling away.

• Depressurize the hydraulic system and lower or support the implement.

In Operation • Check the area around the machine (for children!) before setting off and starting operation

of the machine. Ensure sufficient visibility! • Stay clear of the operating range of hydraulically operated parts. • Passengers are not allowed to ride on the machine during operation!

Transport/Installation There is higher danger of accident during initial installation. Please pay attention to the notes in the corresponding chapters. Delivery The machine with implements is normally delivered completely assembled on a low loader. If parts or modules had to be disassembled for transportation purposes, these will be assembled by our distributor. Depending on the design of the low loader the machine can be unloaded with a tractor or needs to lift off with suitable lifting gear (forklift truck or crane). Sufficient load bearing capacity of lifting gear and lifting tackle must therefore be assured. Lifting and latching points are identified by labels. When using other lifting points pay careful attention to the center of gravity and the weight distribution. These points must, in any case, only be on the frame of the machine. Installation Instruction of the operation and initial installation of the machine will be carried out by our service representatives or distributors.

Any use of the machine without dealer/distributor training is prohibited! The machine can only be released for operation after the instructional session has been conducted by our service engineer / distributor and after the operating instructions have been reviewed and read.

There is higher danger of accident during installation and maintenance. Before performing any installation and maintenance work or service, make yourself familiar with the machine and read the operating instructions.

Depending on scope of equipment: • Take loosely delivered parts off the machine. • Check all important screw connections! • Lubricate all grease fittings! • Check air pressure in tires! • Check all hydraulic connections and hoses for correct

fastening and function. • Immediately rectify any occurring damage or have it

corrected by an authorized dealer!

Transport Depending on country specific regulations and working width, the equipment can be transported on public roads, either attached to a tractor or on a trailer or low loader.

• The permissible dimensions and weights for transport must be complied with. • The tractor must be big enough, of adequate size according to model machines Technical

Specifications listed in this Owner’s Manual so that sufficient steering and braking abilities are assured.

• If the machine is hitched up in two-point mode, the tractor link arms must be blocked against swinging sideways. Be sure sway blocks are installed and secured.

• For road transport insert the provided yellow safety stops and wing locks pins (inserted where necessary). NOTE: Do NOT rest the machine on the safety stops. The machine has a load hold valve in the circuit to hold the cylinder when it is disconnected from the tractor. The yellow safety stops are primarily a safety device in case of a failure in the hydraulic circuit and used during service of the machine. The machine is transported on the rear tires of the transport axle. Never transport the machine on the rear RollFlex packer system.

• On a trailer or low loader, the machine must be secured with tensioning straps, chain binders, or other means.

• Attach lifting tackle only at the specially marked hoisting/lifting points.

DO NOT EXCEED A MAXIMUM TRANSPORTATION SPEED OF 20 MPH (32 KPH) DURING TRANSPORTATION. LOSS OF VEHICLE/MACHINE CONTROL CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH!

NOTE: Prior to operation, adjust front hitch coupler height to accommodate the tractor drawbar height to level the front hitch of the machine and for best machine performance. Route cables, lines and hoses properly and clearly so that they will not interfere with the tractor or machines front hitch during operation and cornering and become damaged. Check all plug and coupler connections (electrical and hydraulic) for cleanliness and tight fit. Dirty connections will contaminate the flowing media. The connectors therefore become worn and this results in malfunctions and failures in the connected assembly groups.

Connecting the Lighting Equipment For transportation on public roads, the road lighting equipment must be plugged in and in good working order.

• Connect the plug of the Joker lighting equipment to the tractor. • Check lighting equipment and warning decals for function and cleanliness.

Phasing the Hydraulic Cylinders The machine is fitted with hydraulic rephasing cylinders on the rear packer system. The cylinders are all connected in series, and therefore operate in a lift/lower function simultaneously. Here, the hydraulic oil if forced out of the piston rod chamber of one cylinder and in to the piston chamber of the next cylinder, and so on and so forth, for however many cylinders are connected in series. The diameter of each cylinder is smaller in the series to enable the lifting distance to remain constant. In the extended position the rephasing orifices are exposed to allow the oil to flow in to the next cylinder. The cylinders are filled with oil, vented, and aligned with the end stop.

RT-18 Model machine shown

Procedure

1. Set the tractor at a medium RPM rating, or about half throttle. 2. Activate the lift control device and maintain the pressure (hold the SCV) for approximately

30 seconds. (This will lift the machine and apply pressure to the first series cylinder. Once they have full extended and reached maximum pressure, the relief, or rephasing port of the cylinder, will send the pressure to the next series cylinder. The process is then repeated. When the final series cylinder has phased, the relief port sends the pressure back to the tractor and completes the series rephase of the cylinder circuit.)

3. Reposition the cylinders and repeat the procedure several times. (The system should NOT need to be bled out during phasing, unless the circuit has recently been repaired or a cylinder replaced. Otherwise, bleeding is done at the factory.)

4. Once phased, continue with machine set up for wing pressure and verify depth setting. 5. Begin tillage. Remember to verify proper phasing of the series circuit throughout the work

day to guarantee proper operation of the machine and obtain a nice field finish.

Troubleshooting If several rephasing hydraulic cylinders are connected in series and one cylinder has an internal leak, it is possible to locate the defective cylinder using a shut-off valve. A shut-off valve (Cylinder Test Kit) is available for purchase for further troubleshooting and diagnostics, PN 05945100.

NOTE: Multiple test kits may be necessary to successfully troubleshoot the series circuit. See diagram below.

1. Install the shut-off valve between the first and second cylinder. 2. Open the shut-off valve and level off the cylinder (align and vent). 3. Fully extend the cylinder and disconnect the hydraulics. 4. If the cylinder continues to fall, depressurize the system and mount a shut-off valve

between the second and third cylinders. Realign and vent the cylinders. 5. Repeat the procedure until the rear packer is no longer lowered. 6. The defective cylinder in the series will be the one that has been disconnected from the

circuit. 7. Remove the cylinder. Repair the cylinder with a new seal kit or replace the cylinder as

needed. (Kits available are listed for the model specific machine in the parts catalog. There is no seal kit available for the 4” x 8” or 3.75” x 8” Electronic version rephasing cylinders.)

Helpful Hint In some cases, it may be possible to successfully diagnose the cylinder simply by putting the tractor in to continuous flow, then check each cylinder to see if they are warm or hot to the touch. This would identify a defective cylinder with an internal leak. Another method, while in continuous flow, is to listen for blow-by internally to the cylinder. This would identify a defective cylinder as well.

Setting Wing Pressure The wing pressure is adjustable to keep the wings of the implement level with the rest of the machine when it is in operation. It is recommended to operate the machine with the wing circuit in ‘Float’, however wing pressure may be applied as needed in a range of 0-500 PSI.

1. Set the wing pressure circuit to Float. If needed, apply pressure by pushing the wings down with the hydraulic remote to the desired pressure – between 0-500 psi. DO NOT EXCEED 500 PSI!

Adjust pressure until the machine is level. The pressure gauge will indicate the level of hydraulic pressure (psi).

Depth Setting – Electronic Depth Control The depth of the machine is set by the packer and drawbar.

The position of the cylinders is controlled by the electronic depth control module in the cab of the tractor. For general instructions and guidelines in the operation of the electronic depth control, see ISO Electronic Depth Control Manual, PN 05951045 equipped with this machine for further information.

NOTE: Depth setting procedure should be performed on firm level ground.

Setting: 1. Raise outside Gauge Wheels of the machine off the ground to their highest set points.

(Gauge wheels need to be lifted so they do not interfere with correctly setting the depth control.) For further information see Gauge Wheels in the next section.

2. Raise machine and hold SCV to rephase lift cylinders. Set tractor lift circuit to 100% flow. 3. Turn depth panel ‘ON’.

NOTE: Machine may need to be calibrated for proper depth prior to tillage, only if the ISO EDC system was swapped between different model Joker machines or used on a different tractor with different drawbar height. See ‘Machine Depth Calibration’ in the ISO EDC Operator’s Manual provided with the machine.

4. Set desired Target Depth on program monitor. NOTE: Any changes to controller values require the machine to be raised and then lowered back to ground.

NOTE: If adjusting set point with the machine in the ground, raise the machine past set point and click hydraulic to lower back to set point.

Leveling – Electronic Depth Control The machine must be level prior to field tillage for proper machine operation. For complete instructions on leveling the machine with an ISO EDC system, refer to ‘Leveling’ in the ISO EDC Operator’s Manual provided with the machine.

1. Set machine Hitch Height to a value of 50 as a starting point (range of 1-99). 2. Lower the machine to the ground, or just above the ground so the discs are touch but not

penetrating. 3. Compare the front and rear rank disc height from the ground to verify if machine is level. 4. Adjust Hitch Height value accordingly. Arrow down to lower front discs. Arrow up to limit

front discs to a shallower depth. 5. Cycle lift circuit and then lower machine to ground again. Verify level. If further adjustment

is necessary, repeat Steps 3 & 4 until level is achieved.

Gauge Wheels The gauge wheels keep the machine steady and maintain the working depth in the ground. The wheels only have a sensing and supporting function. They are not designed as load bearing transport wheels.

The gauge wheel can be set, but not until after the depth setting has been completed.

When starting work the gauge wheel should be in its highest position.

The gauge wheel is lifted at the headland when the machine is taken out of the ground.

Setting Gauge Wheels: 1. Before setting the depth of the implement, raise the gauge wheel to its highest position by

turning the turnbuckle. 2. Set the desired machine depth. (See procedure in previous section). 3. Lower the implement to the predetermined set depth into the ground and start tilling the

field. 4. Stop in the field with the machine still in the ground. DO NOT LIFT MACHINE OUT OF

THE GROUND! 5. Turn the turnbuckle to lower the gauge wheel to the ground.

NOTE: The tires should only support the machine on the ground in case of obstructions and following the contour of the field. The frame must always rest on the stop screws. The wheels should not lift the side wings when in operation.

Caster Wheels The caster wheels are utilized on the RT40 model five section machines. The caster wheels act just like that of a gauge wheel of the smaller RT model machines. The casters aid in keeping the machine steady and maintain the working depth in the ground. The casters have a supporting function. They are not designed as load bearing transport wheels.

The casters consist of a dual parallel arm support to a welded pivoting frame and spindle and a walking tandem axle. The front walking tandem caster wheels sync with the hydraulic circuit of the RollFlex packer system to provide precise depth control, even in rough field conditions.

The walking tandem design allows for excellent stability at higher working speeds by pivoting over uneven ground.

Setting Caster Wheels: The caster each are hydraulically controlled with the RollFlex system. For more depth control, added aluminum stops can be inserted to each hydraulic cylinder rod.

1. Before setting the depth of the implement, insert all the aluminum stops to each caster wheel.

2. Set the desired machine depth. (See procedure in previous section). 3. Lower the implement to the predetermined set depth into the ground and start tilling the

field. 4. Stop in the field with the machine still in the ground. DO NOT LIFT MACHINE OUT OF

THE GROUND! 5. Adjust the number of stops needed for each caster wheel to lower the wheel to the ground.

Cultivation Discs The disc blades of the machine cut the harvest residues and the soil and mix the residues into the soil down to working depth. The Joker series high speed tillage machines are equipped with 20’’ disc blades. There are currently two (2) options available of disc blades to equip your machine to suite your needs:

Smooth Disc Blade Notch Disc Blade

Maintenance: The bearings are grease filled and therefore, maintenance free, however they are serviceable if repair is needed. See model specific RT Next GEN Parts Catalog for further information. Check the discs and bearing hub units regularly for clearance, tightness and unrestricted rotation. Check disc blade bolt torque periodically. Using a ½’’ drive calibrated torque wrench and 17mm socket, set to 120 ft./lbs, secure each retaining bolt, using a crisscross pattern. Apply a small amount of blue thread sealant to the bolts to ensure proper torque and prevent bolts from backing out or coming loose.

Apply penetrating oil to backside of hub to lubricate the seal.

Page 67: RT-Next GEN Joker - HORSCH · 2020. 10. 2. · 1 RT Next GEN Joker Owner’s Manual – Version 1.1 01/2018 . RT-Next GEN Joker Owner’s Manual RT18 / 22 / 25 / 28 / 32 / 35 / 40

www.horsch.com

Notes on cleaning: The mechanical seals of the disc hubs are very sensitive. If water has entered them and the machine is then parked over a longer period of time, damage may occur. This can cause corrosion, and both mechanical seal rings may stick together. The mechanical seal rings will then rotate around the O-ring and damage it. Oil would run out of the hub and the bearing would be damaged after a short while with no lubrication.

• Bearings must therefore not be cleaned with high pressure cleaning equipment. • Before longer periods of rest, the bearing locations should be sprayed with a rust

dissolver/inhibitor, or similar lubricant. Before resuming operation, the discs should be turned by hand and checked for unrestricted rotation.

The disc hub (illustrated on the following page) is grease filled as mentioned above. If the seals or O-rings are damaged and further service is required, replace the seals and O-rings and fill the hub with TECTROL MULTI-FETT (Grease) RED NLGI 2 Lithium-Calcium based lubricating grease compound. (See RT-Series Next GEN Joker Parts Catalog) Further service and repair instructions are noted on the following pages.

RollFlex Packer The RollFlex system can be attached as a rear packer on the machine. While in field use, the packer is used to lift/lower the machine. The RollFlex system consists of a frame support, numerous spring tongues, heavy duty 50mm greaseless maintenance free bearings and miscellaneous shims and hardware. There are two (2) different packer tongues utilized on the RT Next GEN machines. The RT18 & RT22 utilize a standard duty 10mm thick packer tongue spring, while the larger RT25, RT28, RT32, RT35 & RT40 machines utilize a thicker 12mm heavy duty packer tongue spring. The 12mm spring has a higher load rating for larger, heavier machines that supports the packer system against extreme fatigue and wear from extended contact, better servicing customers operating machines in extreme or severe ground conditions with rocks or wetter soil. Any machine may be equipped with a 12mm spring if so desired. See model year specific Parts Catalog for further information. While in use in the field the machine always travels on the packer. NOTE: Never exceed a maximum operating speed of 8 mph while traveling on the RollFlex system only during ‘Field’ mode. The packer is not rated for extreme loads at high speeds, only for machine weight for short distances, such as turning around at the end of a field or traveling across a headland. Due to the weight of the machine a high consolidation and a fine, crumbly, level surface is achieved. With cohesive soils the packers may pick up more soil and thus become considerably heavier. This can overload components or soil the roads during transportation.

Packers must therefore always be cleaned before road transportation if they have picked up soil.

Setting the RollFlex Packer: The RollFlex packer is used as an adjustment tool for setting desired tillage depth of the coulter disc blades. Depending on the version machine, it may be equipped with either an Electronic Depth Control system, or a Manual Depth Control System. For specific instructions in setting the machine depth with the RollFlex packer system see information in Depth Setting previously in this section.

Maintenance: Periodically, the RollFlex packer system and its components should be inspected for wear, along with proper torque to hardware securing its components. There is nothing on the RollFlex packer system that requires lubrication. See illustrations below for items that require attention for proper torque and inspection. For further maintenance items see ‘Preventative Maintenance’ later in Section 7 of this manual.

Edge Disc The Edge Disc is an added option that aids in dirt and trash flow from the front gang of the machine. With the Edge Disc in place, and properly positioned, the Edge Disc will catch dirt and debris that may otherwise not be caught and thrown past the rear gang, preventing unwanted ridging and a smoother field finish. This is especially the case in higher speed tillage.

Edge Disc System (shown front left rank)

There is one (1) Edge Disc assembly to the RT Series Joker, mounted on the front gang, on the outer left-hand side of the machine. Much like that of a standard coulter arm, the Edge Disc System is mounted and secured in the same fashion utilizing rubber torsion cords. This allows for maximum allowed movement of the coulter arm and tension/pressure applied to the edge disc blade.

Setting the Edge Disc: The arm of the edge disc is adjustable for maximum control of dirt and debris. The arm may be moved forward or backward (five positions in 2’’ adjustments) based on travel speed and soil condition. The same goes for the edge disc blade itself. The disc may be adjusted up or down (six positions in 1.5’’ adjustments) on the arm depending on travel speed, soil conditions and tillage depth setting. And lastly, the coulter mount may also be adjusted inward or outward on the rank depending on travel speed and desired overlap of the machine. See illustration for adjustments on the following page.

1. Locate the edge disc assembly on either left or right front ranks. 2. To adjust the assembly inward or outward on the rank, using the appropriately sized

wrenches, loosen the four (4) hex bolts and nuts on the mount plate. Slide the entire assembly to the desired location. Tighten the previously loosened hardware to 450 ft./lbs.

3. To adjust the coulter arm forward or backward on the machine, using the appropriately sized wrenches, loosen and remove the two (2) hex bolts and nuts securing the coulter arm to the mount plate. Move the coulter arm with disc assembly to the desired location. Insert the previously removed hardware. Tighten and torque to 230 ft./lbs.

4. To adjust the disc height on the coulter arm, remove the hex bolt securing the disc blade. Move the disc blade with bearing to the desired mount location. Insert the previously removed hex bolt. Tighten and torque to 450 ft./lbs. NOTE: Depending on height adjustment of the disc blade and bearing one of the steel roll pins installed in the coulter arm may also need to be relocated to properly secure the bearing. This aids in proper torque of the bearing as it is secured to the arm and keeps it from turning loose.

Edge Disc System Adjustments

Maintenance: The Edge Disc hub bearing may be serviced if needed. The procedure is similar to that of the standard coulter disc blades. See Bearing Assembly previous in this section for further information. For replacement parts and further part identification see model specific machine Parts Catalog.

Maintenance and Servicing

Observe the safety instructions for maintenance and servicing.

Your machine has been designed and constructed for maximum power, efficiency and user-friendliness according to a multitude of operating conditions. Your machine has been checked at the factory and by your appointed authorized dealer prior to delivery in order to determine that the machine is in perfect condition. The recommended main-tenance and servicing schedule should be carried out at regular intervals in order to maintain failure-free operation. Cleaning The recommended cleaning and maintenance schedule should be carried out at regular intervals in order to maintain operational availability and guarantee optimum performance.

The hydraulic cylinders and bearings should not be cleaned with a high- pressure cleaner or direct water jet. The seals and bearings are not waterproof under high pressure.

Maintenance Periods The maintenance intervals are determined by various different factors. Various operating, weather and soil conditions, as well as working speeds, affect the maintenance intervals, but also the quality of the lubricants and cleaning agents used, determines the time interval required until the next period for scheduled maintenance. The specified maintenance intervals can therefore only be regarded as an indication. The intervals of maintenance work affected have to be adjusted to suit the conditions, should there be any deviations from normal operating conditions. Regular maintenance forms the basis for a serviceable machine. Serviced machines lower the risk of malfunctions and guarantee the efficient application and operation of machines.

Before working on or crawling under machine, insert transport stops and follow all noted safety guidelines.

See Maintenance Schedule later in this section. Storage Should the machine not be used for a longer period of time, follow these steps:

• If possible, store the machine under a roofed area. • Protect the machine against rust. Only spray with biologically degradable oils, i.e.

rapeseed oil.

Preventative Maintenance A quick, simple walk-around of the entire machine is highly encouraged before operation of the machine each time of intended use. Inspect all moving and wear items such as cultivating discs, hub bearings, and rear RollFlex packer springs.

Cultivating discs should be tight to the hub. Also check that there are no cracked or broken discs. If so, replace immediately. In the sense of the discs being a wear type item, it is recommended to replace the discs once they have worn considerably and are noticeably requiring more depth control of the machine for proper soil cultivation.

Disc hubs are oil filled as mentioned earlier in this manual and require no maintenance, unless there is noticeable oil seepage from the housing. If so, replace the hub or repair the failed seal and fill the hub with the correct recommended oil, 1.3 ounces 75w140 synthetic gear oil.

RollFlex packer springs are also a wear item to the Joker machine. As spring steel is allowed to flex, keep in mind that given their intended use, the spring, as any other, does have a life span. Its life expectancy is shortened each time it flexes. Flexing will cause weakened steel and eventually fail or break. The maximum amount of flex allowed for a packer spring is 1”. Inspect each packer spring for cracks/fractures or breakage, flattened springs, and extended flexing. If any of these conditions are apparent, replace immediately. Also, if the spring is outside the allowed flex amount it should be replaced immediately. An aftermarket kit is available as well for an added option in preserving packer tongue springs, HORSCH PN 04596220 RollFlex Spring Support, available from your local authorized dealer.

New RollFlex packer springs Used RollFlex packer springs at max. flex allowed

Adjust hitch tilt cylinder (manual depth). Adjust Hitch Height (electronic depth)

Machine does not stop at desired depth. (Electronic versions)

Cylinders not reaching set points before hydraulic flow stops.

Adjust set Target Depth. Verify Autotune enabled.

Machine acts erratically, does not maintain consistent depth.

SCV lever is being operated multiple times per lift/lower cycle.

Rephase packer cylinders (manual depth). Verify Autotune enabled (electronic depth).

Machine stops then continues past desired set depth. (Electronic versions)

SCV is still active after all cylinder movement has stopped.

Verify Autotune enabled. Perform Calibration Up/Calibration Down function.

Entire machine plugs when running.

Ground speed too slow; working depth too deep.

Increase ground speed up to 10 mph. Reduce tillage depth. Rephase packer cylinders.

Wings plug when running. Wings not running level. Reduce wing pressure so wings are level. Set to Flat. Adjust Gauge Wheels.

Machine lifts slow. Tractor SCV not set to 100%; excessive soil buildup on machine.
