Desktop units

Personal power points, available in either horizontal or vertical orientation, simply fit on to the desktop and connect directly to the under desk system or to the mains via a standard plug.

Under-deskmodules

Power, data and telecoms modules can easily be reconfigured to meet the increasing demands of the workstation.

standard, low noise / clean earth and dual circuit options are suitable for any office environment, including those where an uninterrupted power supply is critical.

Integrated protection

rcD and rcBo protection modules allow any modifications to existing installations to comply with the latest edition of the Wiring regulations, as well as delivering immediate 17th Edition compliance to new installations.

Rotasoc® desk modulesinstallation and configuration

■ Installation

To connect and disconnect Rotasoc modules

1. Connection / disconnection to be made by a competent person

2. Check that both male and female ends have the same colour coded busbarshield

3. Turn modules over and release the red cam-lock lever with a smallscrewdriver into the upright position

4. Locate male and female ends and push together until fully closed

To fix modules to surface

1. Flip up all rubber screw cover caps with aflat blade screwdriver

2. Insert through all fixing holes no. 8 pozi-panscrew or M4 bolt to required length

3. Tighten screw / bolt down to mountingsurface

4. Push rubber screw cover caps down

5. Press the red cam-lock lever over until flush with the casing to lock the modules together

6. To disconnect, reverse the procedure

Important warnings

A. Isolation

White White Red Red Red White

When connecting modules together, ensure that the coloured busbar shields are colourmatched and correctly aligned. Do not connect modules if shields are of different colours

Isolate the circuit supply from mains

Isolate circuit if connecting and disconnectingmodules to live infeed

C. Protection

The circuit must be protected by a suitably ratedfuse or circuit breaker in accordance with the above

B. Installation and testing

The system should be installed, tested andmaintained by a qualified electrician or competentperson in accordance with BS 7671 : 2008 (IEEWiring Regulations) and BS 6396 ElectricalEquipment within Office Furniture

1. Select the type of distribution system – standard, or low noise / clean earth or dual circuit

2. Select the means of powering the system – cable or power track tap-off

3. Select the type of in-feed module to match the cable capacity – 16 A or 32 A

4. Select the means of protection, if required

5. Select the number of socket modules from the 2, 3 or 4 gang range (individually fused or non-fused)

6. Select the interconnection units if required

7. Finish system with the end cap

(All modules push fit and lock together on-site or can be factory assembled to customer requirement)

■ British standards

BS 6396 : 2008 Electrical Systems in Office Furniture and OfficeScreens

BS 7671 : 2008 Requirements for Electrical Installation(IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition)

Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

Health and Safety Legislation

Below is a brief outline of the main criteria within the standards :

BS 6396 : 2008 was published with regard to the use of electricalequipment within general office furniture and screens. This standardsets out in its scope the use and testing of electrical socket outlets and associated wiring when used together with a 13 A BS 1363 fusedplug and makes provision for the routing of cables through furniture

A note on individual socket fusing - BS 6396 Compliance :

The standard requires individual socket fusing (as per the table below)

BS 7671 : 2008 (17th Edition). The Health and Safety Executive statesthat installations which conform to the standards laid down in BS 7671 : 2008 are regarded by the HSE as likely to achieveconformity with the relevant parts of The Electricity at WorkRegulations 1989

Special note should be taken of Regulation 543.7 within BS 7671 : 2008 – earthing requirements for the installation ofequipment having high protective conductor currents

Regulation 543.7 has particular importance when there is arequirement for a quantity of information technology equipment beingsupplied from a final circuit in a location where the protective currentexceeds 10 mA in normal use. Due to current in the protectiveconductor arising from the use of IT equipment, there is a requirementto provide a mechanically protected 4 mm2 conductor (543.7.1.3(ii)).Rotasoc achieves this when wired in accordance with the installationsheets by providing mechanically protected 5 mm2 earth conductorswithin the product

NOTE :Rotating sockets are for direction use only, not continuous rotation
