We sang the Chodesh song and Morah Jack-ie did not even have to help the children!

They know it so well! (We hope you enjoyed the video we sent home of the children

singing a small part of the song.)

Kaila came up to find Nissan, the month we were saying goodbye to. Shlomo came up to

find Iyar, the month we were welcoming.

Then, Shira took Mitzvah Man out of his house and we all woke him up!

When we told Mitzvah Man it was Rosh Chodesh Iyar and Is-rael’s birthday was coming, he told us that there was another

holiday that happens in Iyar. But what else happens in Iyar? We took out the Iyar card again and noticed there was a fire in the picture. We dis-cussed the other special day in Iyar, Lag Ba’omer (we figured that out by singing our Chodesh song). What is Lag Ba’Omer?

Morah sang us 2 songs to give us a glimpse into this day. Gila and Ye-dida came up and held 2 puppets for a clue. Morah sang a song about young Akiva becoming a great Rabbi and soon enough the children were all singing along. But when is Lag Ba’O-

mer? What does Lamed Gimmel stand for?

We took out the Sefira chart and found the 33rd day of the Omer. We reminded ourselves that we are counting from Pe-sach to Shavuot, when we will get the Torah from Hashem! Then we learned that Rabbi Akiva’s students were not nice and kind to each other and got sick during this time. On Lag BaOmer, all of Rabbi Akiva’s stu-dents were healthy and that was a day of celebration.

Naor then found Moshe Rabeinu and moved him up Har Sinai to the next day. We counted the

15th day of the Omer all together. We asked the children if they knew what our new Mitzvah could be. It had something to do with Rabbi Akiva. They needed some more help, so Morah began to sing, “Amar Rabbi Akiva…” The children began to sing along, and before we knew it they said, “Veahavta Leraecha Kamocha!” That is our new Mitzvah! Morah told the chil-dren they will be learning all about Rabbi Akiva and this Mitzvah that he taught all of his students. They would all be learning about this day in the coming weeks.

We sang goodbye to Mitzvah Man and received

special stickers!

We asked the children, “What did you like best at the Rosh Chodesh assembly?” Here are some of their answers:

I liked seeing

Mitzvah Man.

I liked when Morah Jackie waved the big

flag.

I liked when Mitzvah Man

came out of his house.

I liked when Morah Jackie gave me a sticker with boys

being friends.

I liked when the birthday

children danced with Israel.

I liked when Akiva turned

into Rabbi Akiva.
