ROBERTSON STATE SCHOOL
Principal’s Update By Margaret Berry WELCOME TO TERM 2 IMPROVEMENT AGENDA 1 - 2% IMPROVEMENT IN READING
AND WRITING After undertaking the four day great hike on the World Heritage Fraser Island on the holidays, it confirmed for me that Australia abounds with natural beauty and wonder. Seeing the magnificent rainforest trees growing on the largest sand island in the world, and swimming in the beautiful fresh water Lake McKenzie at the end of a long walk with a heavy back pack, refreshed me for the term ahead. Holiday experiences are a great source of inspiration for both staff and students. Reading and Writing are our key
literacy improvement agendas. Each student in the school has an everyday writing book and they
will continue to develop writing stamina and move to the more technical requirements of writing in their literacy blocks.
Reading data for each class has been analysed and teachers are working with the master teacher and Deputy Principal to established reading goals and reading behaviours that improve student performance.
We have restructured the school timetable to better address a non-interrupted time for literacy and numeracy. Parent access to their students’ weekly timetable will soon be available for those who have joined the Qparents email group. Together with parents this term our theme is “to achieve more than we thought was possible” in literacy and numeracy.
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT GROUP RECOMMENDATIONS During the holidays some of the recommendations from the Traffic Management Group have been put into operation in the Estoril Street car park. Clearer directional arrows and drop off, pickup and parking areas have been painted.
So far, teacher aides and teachers on duty have seen a significant improvement in parent and student safe driving and walking behaviours. Well done! Parent member of our Traffic Management Group, Geoff Peck,
has used his wonderful map making skills to develop a clear representation of 2 minute and 15 minute drop off zones on Musgrave Rd. For this term we want to encourage respectful and safe parent driving behaviours to adhere to these traffic rules. Parents can you please study the map above and join in our school campaign to improve traffic management for the safety of our children.
BUSINESS BREAKFAST WEDNEDAY 20 APRIL Next week local business representatives are invited to a our annual business networking breakfast. their rehearsals and

YOU CAN DO IT! EDUCATION
You Can Do It! Education (YCDI) is a school-home-
community approach to
helping young people achieve
to the best of their ability and
experience positive social-
emotional well-being. It is being used as a framework
and tool by thousands of
schools throughout the world
to help develop the 5
Foundations leading to a variety of positive outcomes in
children and young people,
including health, feeling safe,
achievement, positive
contributions and economic
well-being.
The goals of this YCDI program are represented in the
accompanying triangle. At the
top of the triangle – Objectives
– are the goals we have for all
children. We want all children to achieve to the best of their
ability, and to experience
positive social-emotional-
behavioural well-being.
The middle level of the triangle
– Education – represents
typical efforts in education to help children with different
problems to achieve the
objectives listed at the top of
the triangle. The bottom of the
triangle – Foundations – represents a new and critical
focus for teachers and parents
seeking positive ways to
influence their children’s
development. Based on
research, the YCDI model for supporting the development of
young people rests on the
assumption that fundamental
to a young person’s growth is
his/her ability to be confident, persistent and organised, to
get along and to be emotionally
resilient.
Deputy News By Lesley Boshammer
Welcome back to Term 2. This term is another very busy
one – please watch the
calendar for all of the
upcoming events.
SCHOOL ANZAC CEREMONY
Our school will commemorate
ANZAC Day on Friday 22 April with a ceremony led by the
Year 6 students. This will
take place in the Activities
Centre commencing at
2:00pm sharp. Everyone is invited to attend.
COMMEMORATION
SERVICE AT ANZAC
SQUARE
Mrs Berry and I will be taking
the school captains and
student council into the
combined students service at
Anzac Square on Thursday 21 April. The school captains will
lay a wreath on behalf of the
school.
IMPROVING WRITING
If we don’t have the words, we can’t write them! Part of being
a good writer is having
vocabulary that enhances
what is being said.
Developing vocabulary is very
important for everyone. It impacts on not just our
writing but also on our oral
communication as well as
helping us with reading
comprehension.
A game I used to play with my
children when they were younger was to choose a word
of the week from the
dictionary. It had to be a
word that they didn’t know.
We would look at the meaning and discuss it and how to use
it when speaking.
We would then try and see
who could use the word
correctly the most often
during the week. The winner got to choose the word for the
next week.
This simple practice made
learning fun and also helped
develop a knowledge of words.
Why not try something similar
with your family – there are no age restrictions. The earlier
children develop good
language the better. For
example in my house “right” is
a direction not an indication
of having done something properly. The word used in
this case is “correct”.
To this day, my children still
mirror this language and have
done since they began to
speak.
So why not challenge your family to develop vocabulary
and see who can come up
with the most interesting word
and be able to use it correctly.
CAMP DEPOSITS
Camp deposits are due by the end of this week. Please

SCHOOL SWIMMING STATE
CHAMPIONSHIPS Robertson was proud to have two students at the titles having both Lilli and Jorja swim over three 3 days, from 20 to 22 March. The girls placed highly in the events they entered, with Jorja participating in 6 finals and Lilli being in an amazing 9 separate events. Jorja has made it into the Queensland Schools Swimming Team again and frustratingly Lili missed out by 0.01 of a second from making the same team. Jorja will now join the Queensland team in Darwin in September for the National Swimming Championships. Congratulations Jorja and oh so close for Lilli, well done.

都可以達到這個目標。教育措施是達成以上目標的途徑,措施包括課程大綱、行為習慣教育與支持、特殊教育項目、社區活動等。此外,家長和老

IMPROVING WRITING
