USA v Ireland - Eagles went up early, 7-3, on a try by openside f lanker Lynel le Kugler and its conversion by f lyhalf, Kim Rozier, but they were unable to hold that advantage and went to halft ime 10 points adrift at 10-20. A grounding by second row power, Carmen Farmer, just after the restart, completed by Rozier, drew the Eagles close at 17-20, and the last numbers of the match went to Ireland in the form of a penalty str ike by Ireland’s dreadnaught #15, Niamh Briggs for a 17-23 result; bonus point for Eagles in the loss, though. USA v Kazakhstan - Eagles went to break in front, 15-7, ahead of the Nomads and opened up their opponents for f ive, second stanza dots for the bonus point win. Head coach Pete Steinberg made 10 changes to the side that dropped the opening match to 2014 Six Nations Champions, Ireland, and that mixture provided for the victory. Glendale Raptors standoff Hannah Stolba grounded the bonus point try early in the last half and Eagles went for the 47-7 record, thus ensuring a Sunday showdown… … at the National Rugby Headquarters in Marcoussis: USA Eagles v New Zealand Black Ferns . The Eagles wi l l very much l ike the win over the current world champions; tough, yet doable, task for America’s XV. You may view the match 10am MDT, Sunday at -
http://www.universalsports.com noto bene: When Sarah Chobot came on at loosehead near the hour mark and packed down with Kittery Wagner and Sarah Wilson, it made for an all-Glendale Raptors Eagles front row.

Both of the home teams should l ike the win this weekend in order
to ensure, in effect, a battle of undefeated sides for a Mountain
League Grand Final when Vail rolls up to the ‘Boat on the
subsequent Saturday.
Breckenridge Blue Goose were dangerously steadfast in their
SkiTown Party Trophy win last weekend at Missoula, MT. Down five
men in the closing stages of the evening, the boys dug deep and
rall ied for repeat victory at the Big Snow rugby festival up north.

Waratahs v Crusaders
20 points for visit ing #10, Col in Slade, on six penalties and one conversion
struck, but 23 for icy-veined opposite number, Bernie Foley, on seven-
and-one, the last three-pointer in the f inal minute to regain the lead for
the result; Waratahs ran out to an early, 14-nil advantage by ’14 on a
grounding by #13, Adam Ashley-Cooper, in the 2n d minute of play and
three sticksplitters by Foley, but a try by Crusaders #7, Matt Todd, and
its conversion by #12, Dan Carter, at ’19 made for a converted-try gap at
14-7 the hosts; a brace of penalty strikes traded for tall ies of 20 and 14
to home team after 40 minutes; a converted touch down by #11, Nemani
Nadolo Nasiganiyavi, just after restart and guests had drawn level at 20
for the house and a scratchy ratchet of tension in the stadium then;
Slade’s sticksplitter at ’48 and Crusaders f irst lead of 23-20; locked once
more by Foley-for-three and 23s at ’53; advantage to the travelers and
three more by Slade - Crusaders back up 26-23 at ’56; Ashley-Cooper
again to dot for Foley’s complet ion and Waratahs in lead, 30-26 at ‘63; a
pair of further penalties by Slade returned favor to Crusaders at 32-30 in
the 75th minute, but the big boomer by Bernie at ’79 meant, 33-32, for
‘Tahs inaugural Super Rugby Championship Grand Final Victory
9 the number of victories for ‘Tahs and #9, Nick Phipps, the Plat inum Player
of the Match for his consistent delivery, craft and cunning around the
scrum’s base, and also his 75t h minute stop of the sizable Nadolo
Nasiganiyavi as the Fij ian f lyer steamed for the try zone; Crusaders
wound up settl ing for three, but f ive would have made all the difference
in the world

The Rugby Championship, a s ix-Test series between the four Southern Hemisphere giants:
Argentina Pumas, Australia Wallabies, New Zealand All Blacks and South Africa Springboks
is set to start next weekend, 8.16/17, with kickoffs in Pretoria and Sydney on the Saturday.
Since 1996, the nation that produces Super Rugby’s Champ has also provided the Rugby
Championship’s winning national s ide 13-of-18 times or 72+% of the time. Australia last
claimed that double-prominence in 2011 when Queensland Reds won the Super XV and the
Wallabies the last Tr i-Nations Championship (in 2012 re-named The Rugby Championship
with the addition of Argentina); that 2011 Australia side lost only to All Blacks at Eden Park.
Wallabies’ l l have another shot at the “Twin-Tops” this season, having tr iumphed the f irst
leg last weekend.
Australia v New Zealand at ANZ Stadium, Sydney: issues with the front row may prove the
Wallabies undoing as injury to f irst-choice numbers one and two, Brumbies Scott Sio (wheel
problem) and Wallabies Tatafu Polota-Nau (ditto) resp., have necessitated the promotion of
Melbourne Rebels front row, Laurie Weeks, and Western Force hooker, Nathan Charles.
New Zealand, on the other hand, have their own world of hurt with their talismanic half,
Dan Carter, out for the init ial couple of RC f ixtures with leg damage himself, gotten in the
Super Rugby XV f inal .
Good news for All Blacks is Carter’s relief, Colin Slade, is in form and blindside f lanker Liam
Messam is the foremost #6 anywhere and possibly the best al l -around player, around.
Reason for joy in Australia, the Magic Land of Rugby… the best backline on the continent
and best for the nation in years… Izzy Folau may be tops in the business at the fullback slot
and bright and sal ient his impact on that ¾ l ine. Front f ive fare f inely for the home team
and things should go well those hosts; if that central forward unit should falter or fai l , Al l
Blacks wil l capitalize in merci lessly cl inical fashion. No call the good call here, today.
South Africa v Argentina at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria: South Africa have some injury
concerns and Argentina shall be all hale and hardy for the opening Rugby Championship
round, but it ’ l l take the emergence of a hero (or any number of them) for the travelers to
triumph on the High Veld this day. Ulster charm, Ruan Pienaar, should he get the probable
start, is tops at his trade on either side of the equator and should make for much l ife at the
base of the scrum and also through to the powerfully poignant Springbok three-quarters,
while a new-look Argentina squad wil l look to perform basics properly and enable a stout
effort from it defense in support the Pumas f irst-ever RC victory.
Fullback Juan Martín Hernández and center Marcelo Bosch, who last season plied their
professions at Racing Metro and Saracens, return at #s 15 and 13, while backrow lock Juan
Martín Fernández Lobbe and front row Matias Cortese wil l be there in the forwards for the
Pumas side captained by hooker, Agustin Creevy. Home team should l ike to announce their
quest for the 2014 RC Grail on Saturday largely, though they’d best not look past the
predictably unpredictable and somewhat unsung Argentines.
