THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS: 1948 - 2008
• UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS ARE FOR ALL PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. DURING WWII, THE UNIVERSAL
DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS WAS CREATED. ALL OF THE WORLD LEADERS CREATED AND COMPLETED
A UNITED NATIONS CHARTER. THE CHARTER WAS THEN TRANSMITTED INTO THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL
COUNCIL.
CULTURAL RELATIVITY
• ”NO ONE SHALL BE HELD IN SLAVERY OR SERVITUDE; SLAVERY AND THE SLAVE TRADE SHALL BE
PROHIBITED IN ALL THEIR FORMS.
• NO ONE SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO TORTURE OR TO CRUEL INHUMAN OR DEGRADING TREATMENT OR
PUNISHMENT.
• EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO RECOGNITION EVERYWHERE AS A PERSON BEFORE THE LAW (UNITED
NATIONS, 2014).

• AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS NUMBERS ORIENTED AND DIVERSITY IS AIMED AT CHANGING THE ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURE AND DEVELOPING SKILLS AND POLICIES THAT GET THE BEST FROM EVERYONE
• “THE TERM AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FIRST APPEARED IN JFK’S EXECUTIVE ORDER. IT REAPPEARED 4 YEARS LATER
WHEN LYNDON JOHNSON SIGNED EXECUTIVE ORDER 11246 REQUIRING “EMPLOYERS DOING BUSINESS WITH
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO DEVELOP AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PLANS TO ASSURE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT
OPPORTUNITIES IN THEIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES (BARAK, 2014).
ANALYSIS OF HOW ADULT LEARNING IS INFLUENCED
• INDIVIDUALS FOUGHT FOR EVERYONE TO HAVE EQUAL ACCESS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION
• THE AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT PAVED THE WAY FOR ACCOMMODATIONS TO BE MADE IN THE LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES
• BECAUSE OF PEOPLE STANDING UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN, ADULTS CAN CHOOSE WHERE THEY WANT
TO RECEIVE AN EDUCATION
