1 – H20 MKIII

The H20 MKIII system is designed to be effective where space is at a premium, delivering a

self-managing system with minimal human input required through our new smart

controller. Electronic system status and key readings delivered via a touchscreen means for

quick easy use and inspections of running parameters by engineers.

This smart compact system is available in various set ups and configurations in order to

meet the demands of any small to medium scale vessel. The introduction of an inverter

driven motor for steady start up along with a direct-coupled high-pressure pump delivers a

more efficient and quieter running machine. The steady start is key to minimising the

electrical draw of the motor, which will benefit your vessels on board electrical generators.

However, let us not forget this system can turn the harshest of sea intake water into

drinking water.

4 STANDARD SYSTEM MAKE UP

The standard H20 MKIII system is available as a framed standalone machine or a makeup of

components distributed around the vessel using a remote panel to operate. No matter of

the set up type fresh drinkable water will be available at the outlet of the system. The

standard equipment provided is listed,

Priming Pump - Single Stage Centrifugal (Capacity – 0.78m3/hour, Speed – 2800rpm)

Installed on or below the waterline, the pump forces water through the pre-filters and

delivers to the high-pressure pump with a positive pressure.

Pre Filters – Polyester Fibre Elements (50 & 5 Micron 2.5”x 10”)

Two-stage filtration, 50 and 5 micron disposable filters respectively ensure clean water is

delivered to the high-pressure pump and onwards.

H.P Pump – Triple Plunger Pump (Capacity – 0.96m3/hour, Pressure Range – 6.9 -138 Bar)

Invertor driven, the direct coupled pump & motor is responsible for delivering pressurised

water to the membranes, the working pressure (55-62 Bar) is obtain through operating the

restrict valve.

Pressure Vessels & Membranes – Filmtec 21” or 40” Membranes (Operating Pressure 55-62

Bar, Chloride Rejection – 99.5%)

Designed and tested to withstand 4 times the operating pressure, these vessels can be

arranged in a variety of ways to suit the desired output and space available on-board. The

simple push fit connections and removable end plugs allows for easy maintenance.

Smart Controller – Stainless Steel Cabinet (IP55)

Controlled via an electronic screen this smart control panel features;

Invertor Controlled Motor Function

System Information (Voltage, CA Reference Etc.)

Digital Reading Outputs

o Low & High Pressure Reading

o Salinity & Temperature Reading

o Run Hours

o Inverter Speed, Temperature & Operations

o Fresh Water Flush Activations & Countdowns(Priming & H.P Pump,

Product Salinity, Water Temperature, Pump Speed & Hours Meter)

Auto & Manual Mode

Auto – Fully automatic start & stop of the unit. By simply pressing start on the touchscreen

the unit will fully start and modulate by itself. No more pressure setting by the restrict valve.

On shut down the unit will engage the fresh water flush countdown automatically

Manual – This mode allows you to start and stop each components as per traditionally

operated reverse osmosis units.

Smart Controller Plus – Remote Start Function

By simply “daisy chaining” the HMI touchscreen this allows us to have easy and simple

remote/stop of the unit. Using an Ethernet cable (up to 100m) we install an additional

touchscreen somewhere more convenient to control the water maker from (e.g. Engine

Room). This allows us to install the unit in a less accessible place without the need to locally

start/stop the unit.

5 OPTIONAL EXTRAS

The Cathelco Watermaker team recommends the installation of all the optional extras

shown in figure 1, producing fresh water on board is one thing however storing fresh water

and correctly cleaning machinery is another. Listed below are the optional extras available

and there benefits.

Fresh Water Flush (FWF)

Upon system, shut down the FWF unit flushes potable water through the system and

connecting pipework for a period of 10 minutes on a weekly basis. We highly recommend

these be installed on our units as they ensure maximum operational efficiency and longevity

of the membranes by removing the build-up of any bacteria or pollutant.

Media Filter

Often referred to as a sand filter, this unit uses a large diameter housing with specifically

calibrated filter media. The particles in the feed water are caught up in the upper layers of

the media; the unit significantly lowers the consumptions of the cartridge filter elements on

the R.O system. The unit is installed with a backflush option in order to reverse flow to flush

out the build-up of dirt caught in the unit. Installed separate to the unit, using a media filter

will require a large priming pump.

Clean In Place Unit (Chemical Clean)

Used to introduce chemicals for cleaning and preserving purposes when unit is out of

operation. This standalone unit includes a chemical storage tanks along with a mag-drive

priming pump to deliver the solution to the Watermaker pipework.

U.V Steriliser

This unit sterilisers the water to be completely free from bacteria, parasites and algae

spores. This unit can be used as a pre-treatment when feed water is extremely dirty or more

commonly used in the recirculation of water around the ship from a stored location. If water

is to be stored in tanks then we highly recommend the use of this unit.

Chlorine Dosing

Chlorine is added to the product water typically 0.2-0.3mg/L (according to W.H.O

regulations on potable water). The introduction of chlorine sterilises the water to be

completely free from bacteria, parasites and algae spores for long period.

Re-mineralisation Unit

Used to restore mineral content and restore equilibrium with alkalinity and CO2 levels. Also

known as re-hardening, this process removes the gases formed in the R.O product water,

which can make it slightly aggressive.
