About UsReverse Garbage was established in 1974 by a group of teachers determined to help the environment by diverting industrial discards from landfill and by reusing materials in their classrooms.

Almost 40 years later, Reverse Garbage is now an internationally recognised, award-winning environmental co-operative committed to promoting sustainability. Each year Reverse Garbage collects tonnes of resources including reusable off-cuts, over-runs, art & craft materials, stage props, furniture and other items from hundreds of supporting commercial and industrial businesses, as well as through the generosity of the community.

These resources are sorted at Reverse Garbage’s Marrickville site and the community is given the opportunity to purchase items for creative use – or ‘reuse’ – using resources to create new items or to give items a new purpose. All sales help to fund our operations and services.

Being a small not-for-profit with limited resources, we would appreciate items to be dropped off to our Marrickville site. Reverse Garbage can, however, arrange to pick up large quantities of materials you wish to donate. Our Marrickville site receives new pieces of furniture each day which means our furniture changes on a regular basis, giving our customers access to furniture and homewares to suit any décor.

Yenmala Nura (“Let’s Walk Through Country”) GardenThis project was led by Reverse Garbage along with Billyara Aboriginal Art to create an indigenous storytelling garden with traditional and contemporary Aborginal art, symbols, totems and designs.

The garden also features garden beds and installations made from reuse materials from Reverse Garbage. Visit the garden right next to RG!

Our Reverse Garbage store ‘RG ReStore’ stocks quality, reuse items which have been made using every day materials found at Reverse Garbage.

Each item is made entirely out of reuse by our skilled RG Team, with sales from items helping our mission to divert thousands of valuable resources from landfill each year.

RG ReStore seeks to restore, reuse, repurpose and reduce by using existing and discarded materials.

Arrangements for custom sized items (e.g. specifically sized carry bags or surfboard covers) can be arranged. Please note that as some items are made to order, there may be a 7 day wait time depending on quantities ordered.

Fill a reuse bag made by RG ReStore from City of Sydney street banners (or bring your own recycle bag for reuse) for just $5. Or fill a large hessian sack for $20.

Our front counter staff will be able to assist further with volumes and prices depending on bag sizes and volume of materials. The Bag Section is located in the middle back section of our warehouse – just look out for the orange bays and the big handbag sign with ‘Bag Items’ written on it!
