DESPITE a sluggish real estate market,nearly 140 suburbs in Perth had $1 millionproperty sales for the year ending March2011.

The latest figures from REIWA show142 suburbs recorded individual propertysales of at least $1million during this 12-month period, including southern suburbssuch as Kardinya, Bull Creek, Palmyra,Beeliar, Jandakot and Munster.

According to Graeme Baxter, chiefexecutive officer of Acton Real Estate, thenumber of suburbs with million-dollarproperty sales had remained stable overthe last two years with 137 Perth suburbsrecording million-dollar property sales

during the year ending the March 2010quarter.

“Overall, million-dollar property salesnow account for nearly nine per cent of allhouse sales in Perth, which is a verypositive result, taking into account theimpact of rising interest rates over the lastyear,’’ he said.

“One of the most significant trends inthe million-dollar Perth property market isthe growing number of property sales inlifestyle markets, which are not usuallyassociated with the prime riversidesuburbs of Perth.”

Million-dollar sales were also recordedin Mindarie, Iluka, Duncraig, Hillarys,

Marmion, Mullaloo and Sorrento in thenorth and Darlington, Gooseberry Hill,Kalamunda, Lesmurdie and Wattle Grovein the Hills.

“In recognition of these growingnumber of million-dollar property sales inregional areas of Perth, Acton has openedseveral new offices in selected areas overthe past year to provide a broader numberof property sellers with our premium levelof services,’’ he said.

“These new Acton offices include ActonHills and Acton Southern Suburbs. Actonplans to open additional new offices inselected regions in Perth over the comingyear.” ■

‘Rookie’ knocks down another winnerJASON Rainsford of LJ HookerAtwell won the 2011 REIWAAuctioneer Championships Rookieof the Year this month.

The annual statewide auc-tioneering competition has twocategories – seniors and rookies.

To be eligible to compete in therookies category, competitorsmust be a licensed auctioneer withno more than two years’experience and have called nomore than 50 auctions.

“I felt my performance wasstrong and that the competitioncontinued to develop my auc-tioneering skills and increase my

ability to perform,” Mr Rainsfordsaid.

This year’s awards eventinvolved seniors and rookiesauctioning a residential property inWA and having a crowd of 120people acting as spectators andbuyers to recreate the atmosphereof a live auction.

Mr Rainsford said he waspassionate about auctions.

“I think it’s the best way to sell –it’s an open, transparent transactionfor all and the buyer has theopportunity to bid to a limit.”

He joked he planned to competewith the seniors next year. ■
