the seain Giporlos,

Eastern Samar.

fishing communityin a 5th class

municipality,

in a 4th

classdistrict, in an

underdeveloped

province in

a region that has

been underserved

for decades.

For decades,theyve been surviving

despite the lack of

services.

By fishing, mostly.

And the coconut trees.

Poor, but surviving.

dawn when the

sky and the windsand the sea came

and took away

what little they had.

the world has ever seen. Haiyan.

begin with in Gigoso.But even that,

Haiyan (Yolanda)

took.

We couldnt save anything. The waves

were too high and the wind was

too strong. My mother was right

behind us, but we couldnt reach her,

because I was carrying my 1 year-oldbaby.

We just buried them in a hurry,

wrapped in a blanket and

evacuated because we were

afraid the sea would still rise.

We werent able to save anything.
