What is Relay For Life?

• Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Walking towards hope

• Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Enrichment of the Soul

• Community Service makes:– A well rounded individual– A compassionate person– Allows you to have a hand in the world around

you

• Community Service gives:– An individual an opportunity to help build one’s

home– A sense of pride and belonging in the community

• Hodgkins Disease• Chemotherapy for 6 months• In remission

– Alan Millwood• Cancer in the lymphnodes• Three rounds of

chemotherapy• Fought for little over a year

VSU Relay For Life

• First year they haven’t done it with city• Big enough turn out – continue to do as a

school• Goal was to raise $10,000• More than a dozen organizations have

entered teams• Results look promising
