Issue and Challenge

• Objective – Summer Rains cause extensive flooding in downtown Guayabitos

which infrastructure can’t support. – Solve the public health emergency crisis in Rincon de Guayabitos from

sewage discharges into the sea during flooding season.

• Solution– Construction of two new storm drains and rehabilitation of two existing

ones at the intersection of Jacaranda and Nuevo Sol.– Rehabilitation of retaining walls at the discharge of the Jacarandas

walkway.

Proposal• Description

– Largely resolve the health emergency caused by sewage discharge– Benefits over 8,000 residents and hundreds of thousands of visitors– Must be conducted this year or early 2012 prior to the rainy season – Part of a major State renovation project of 1.4 million pesos ($105,000 US)

• Project status• Flood area has been surveyed

• Detailed architectural drawings and hydraulic calculations of the hotel zone

• A preliminary budget estimate and resource availability

• The support of the College of Civil Engineers & Architects for technical validation.
