REMEMBRANCE BENCH DEDICATION
Our own Heather Edmunds raised money to have a park bench built to honor
Mooresville's K-9 Officer Jordan Sheldon who was tragically killed in the line of
duty earlier this year. The unveiling ceremony came on August 19th in
downtown's Freedom Park.
After a poignant speech from our Mayor and a thank-you from K-9 Officer Beck,
Jordan's friend, Heather spoke on her reason for the bench and how the idea
came from the 'Buddy Bench' installed at Coddle Creek Elementary by our
Noon Club. She hopes that those that need comforting may come sit at the
bench just like the one at her son's school.
The bench is engraved with "Shelly" and "Smiley", Jordan's nicknames, as he
always brought a smile to everyone's faces and loved to tell jokes.
A Boy Scout in attendance, spoke to Heather about assisting to permanently
install the bench and to put in stepping stones engraved with jokes to it. This
would be his Eagle Scout project.
FOURTH ANNUAL SHADES OF LOVE EVENT
SHADES OF LOVE is a 501(c)3 started by Heather Edmunds to promote
inclusivity within the community regardless of what shade a person may be.
The annual event serves as their yearly fundraiser and promotes diversity in the
community, celebrates community accomplishments, and recognizes our
amazing service men and women who strive to better our community.
This year's event had over 78 vendor participants and raised funds to create
over 400 backpack bundles and purchase several bicycles for children in the
community. The Mooresville Police and Fire Departments, ACROFITNESS
dance academy, a THE KATKANDU band, and many more participated.
The Evening Exchange Club assisted with parking and also purchased a booth
in order to promote EXCHANGE and sell snack items as a fundraiser.
