July 2015 Education .

A Beginner judging course was held on 8th June with 47 candidates in 2 course venues. All have passed. Some judges still waiting to have accreditation processed by GA.
An Intermediate course was held on 7th/8th June with 15 candidates. 13 passed and 2 still pending – re-sits to be organized.
Michelle Yardley is presenting a bridging/preparation course for new Intermediate judges and those wishing to sit the Intermediate course on Sunday 5th July at DSR.
Judges Committee Planning

No applications received for National Exposure and Regional Judging Scholarships.

Northwest judge visits completed: Ben Barnard – Broome,
Colleen and Tracy – Carnarvon Heidi – Karratha.
Ashleigh Lyon was arranged to attend Kununurra but the visit was cancelled due to expensive flight costs. They have requested a judge/coach visit in July or August but still to be arranged.
Colleen, Donna, Julie Jervis and Ashleigh Lyons attending the Northwest Regionals in Carnarvon on July 3rd – 5th.
Performance Trial(Senior Elite) to be held in Perth by GA on weekend of Loftus Challenge.
Ben Barnard travelled to QLD with Border Challenge team and judged at the event. Junior Judges Invitational
153 competitors. 4 sessions held over one day.
Trialed a spreadsheet system for scoring which worked well.
Trialed stars on certificates for each station and overall ribbon for each apparatus. Stickers and ribbons done at scoring table by judges.
Some concern that scores for ribbon ranges may be incorrect. Rounding up of colours resulted in many more blue and red ribbons compared to previous years, especially at IL2.
Many of the new Beginner judges elected to judge at the event and were paired up with an experienced judge who mentored them judging for the first time.
We need to look at ways to keep the Beginner judges actively involved as their next round of judging isn’t until the Festival events in November. Will maybe look to invite them to assist at NL 3-5 events as judges assistants to keep them involved and introduce them to the next level of judging. Judging Committee looking to assign a member to coordinate mentoring for new judges.
Tracy Holmes – WAG Judging Coordinator.

GWA Board Meeting Minutes June 2015 2.2.1 Gymnova Equipment – WAG Judges Committee
The GWA Board thanked the WAG Judges Committee for their support of $20,000 from the WAG Judges Assembly to assist
with the purchase of the Gymnova Equipment at the State Gymnastics Centre. The GWA Board acknowledged the upgrade
is allowing the gymnastics community to have opportunities for the best possible chance of success at events and the WAG
Judging Community assistance played an integral part for this to occur.
The GWA Board noted that at this stage, there has been no response from the MAG TC in regards to assisting with the purchase of the equipment.
4.1.1. High Performance
The GWA Board noted the update from WAIS / GWA Flyers and the current use of Arena 2. It was agreed that the use and hire of Arena 2 needed to be financially sustainable and the logistics around Arena 2 need to improve if GWA is to continue to hire from July 2015 onwards. The GWA Board discussed the current GWA Flyers Budget provided by WAIS and the sustainability of the program and agreed to the following;
GWA would no longer hire Arena 2 as of the 1st July 2015 for the GWA Flyers.
GWA would gift the following programs use of the SGC Hall 1 for High Performance Training; o GA National Centre of Excellence Programs o GA endorsed Club High Performance Programs
GWA to show the funding subsidy within the budget.

9.1.1. Enable
Event Volunteers Continued volunteer strategies include developing relationships with university hubs through Volunteering WA. At the GWA Go for 2 & 5 Autumn State Championships two volunteers from the Notre Dame University volunteer hub, and one volunteer from the Murdoch University hub were engaged. Two additional volunteers made contact via our website. As a result, there was no need to advertise for large numbers and these responses more than adequately serviced our needs.
The second GWA Floor Managers course and music and announcing course is scheduled for 6 June 2015, where it is hoped that not only club volunteers but university volunteers will be interested in engaging in these workshops.
9.1.2. Excel
GWA HP Academy The first phase of the GWA Academy is currently being developed with regard to the Sports Science component of the Academy. The targeted area is strength and conditioning, aimed at athletes that do not have access to an institute program or a national centre of excellence. With the transition of the athletes from the MAG High Performance Centre into the High Flyers, GWA indicated that there would be some investment made in the Sport Science area. In line with this, it has been decided to pilot the strength and condition plan with the Level 9 U17 MAG athletes. Moving into the later part of 2015, it is planned to roll out a strength and conditioning program for RG and TRP. The Developing Champions Program continues with its face to face module on 6 June 2015.
Events’ concepts, ideas and structures for Level 1 – 2 events and Level 3 – 6 events to achieve success and increased participation have been discussed at all Technical Committee Meetings. The review is planned to be presented at the August 2015 Board Meeting.
