The RBV Healthwise Weight Plan is a program specializing in the integration of proper nutrition, fitness and motivation in order to help others in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. The founders of Richelle Beauty Vision, Patrick and Richelle Stuut and their team are devoted to eliminating weight concerns by improving, enhancing and maintaining the emotional and physical well-being of their clients.

Weight management is not just about a diet, but is about treating the whole person. Each of our clients is unique and as such, receives personal attention. Patrick and Richelle Stuut were both overweight for a large part of their lives. Both lost a lot of weight using a VLCD (very low calerie diet) plan. Throughout his youth, Patrick has been a very active athlete and Richelle is a cosmetologist. VLCD stands for ‘Very LowCalorie Diet’. Any VLCD that youfollow should provide you withall the nutrients required byyour body for healthy function,whilst keeping your daily calorieintake under 800 calories perday.

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis occurs when your body doesnot have sufficient carbohydrates toburn for energy, usually less than 70g ofcarbohydrates per day. Once ketosis occursyour body will burn fat as energy. Fat fromyour body and fat from the food you eat.This is far more beneficial to anyone who istrying to lose weight, as many diets sacrificemuscle for energy rather than fat which inturn lowers your metabolism. There areso many diets out there that create a lowcalorie environment, but not low enough incarbohydrates to induce ketosis. Ketosis is agreat way to lose weight as it will enable theprotection of muscle tissue (which in turnhelps to maintain your metabolism) as wellas helping to control your hunger.

Most people look to a VLCD asthey associate it with “QuickWeight Loss” which is true, butin addition to the quick weightloss you can also get “QuickWeight Gain” if you don’t followthe plan properly.

When it is right to follow a VLCDprogram?

If you are looking to lose over 20lband are in good health, then aVLCD could be just perfect for you.

When you commit to a VLCD it is an allor nothing approach. You need to be fullycommitted as the first 4 to 5 days will proveextremely testing as you move away fromcarbohydrates for energy and go into ketosis.You will require a lot of will power anddetermination to get through the first week.

The longer you stay on a VLCD the easier itgets, but if you have as much as one highcarbohydrate based meal then your hungerwill return with a vengeance, and you aregoing to have to go through a few dayssimilar to the first week to get back on track(this is also the stage where many peoplefail).

When a VLCD program is NOTsuitable

Although you lose weight quickly on a VLCD,you need to ensure you understand howthe plan works and what you need to do toachieve long term success. It is one thinglosing 10lb in a week but stopping the dietafter a very short period will result in weightgain. Our program is designed for peoplewith at least 20lb to lose, and these peoplewill need to follow our re-feed plan to havethe minimum weight gain once they come offthe program. If you have less than 20lb tolose we would recommend that you follow amore conventional diet rather than a VLCD.

Choosing the correct plan for you

More so than any other diet, aTFR (Total Food Replacement)or VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet)should only be undertaken withthe knowledge of your consultant. You should be in good health with a strong mind and positive attitude. If you are not, then you should not start a VLCD, but a LCD.

There are two plans to follow at RBV Healthwise.

VLCD & LCD

Both programs require that you followour re-feed program to enable the re-introduction of normal food after your goal weight is achieved.

Choosing the correct plan for you

The following information isimportant regardless whichWeight Plan you follow.

Water

You should consume 3 litres of water perday, this includes the water you use to mixyour products. Please note it can be dangerous to consume large volumes of fluids in a short space of time.

Caffeine

Once ketosis is established tea/coffeecan be consumed freely, (providing you donot exceed any allocated milk allowance).However, it is not recommended to intakecaffeine before ketosis is established.Although rare, caffeine can prevent somepeople getting into ketosis.

Vegetable Allowance Weight

Unless you are following the VLCD plan, you will be having 200g of vegetables from the list. This 200g is the cooked weight where applicable.

RBV Healthwise LCD Plan

WEIGHT PLAN

The RBV Healthwise VLCD Planprovides the perfect diet forthose looking to keep it simple! There is no food to prepare, and all meals come from Healthwise Nutritional products.

The VLCD Plan will give you 5 to 7 products per day. The products can be anything from our range of shakes, meals, soups and bars etc.There is a limit to 1 bar per day, all the other products have no restrictions.

The four phases of a VLCD are:

1. Preparation Screening/Evaluation-

The patient is screened and evaluated for

appropriateness of VLCD.

2. Weight Reduction Phase-This is the

fasting phase and the rapid weight loss

3. Transition Phase-Whole food is

slowly added back while the use of meal

replacements is reduced.

4. Maintenance Phase-Here lapses and

To follow the Beauty Vision VLCDor LCD plan you need to be ableto answer NO to all of the following questions or have yourdoctor sign a letter to say you aresuitable to follow a VLCD.

• Do you have Diabetes type 1?

• Do you have a liver of kidney disease?

• Do you have serious heart conditions?

• Do you have epilepsy?

• Do you have a eating disorder such as bulemia or anorexia nervosa??

Contraceptives

Fertility is often increased during/after weight loss, we therefore recommend using adequate contraceptive precautions.

Medications

Those taking medications need to ensure their doctor continues to monitor and assess the required dosage of their medications.

To follow the RBV Healthwise VLCD or LCD Plan you need to be fit and healthy. If in doubt, ask your doctor to sign a letter to say you are suitable to follow a VLCD.

We often get asked if youcan have different productson the program, and forsome items the answer isyes.

We have made a list of the items weare asked about most frequently. We are notendorsing these products for you to use on theplan, we are only confirming that you can havethem if you want to.

Condiments

Salt which is a mineral, is allowed on the diet, but use sparingly.

Currently ‘PAM Light’ is the only cooking spraywe are aware of, this can be used sparingly.

Light bouilllon once a day is allowed.

Diet Drinks & Flavoured Water

Many diet drinks tend to contain ‘Citric Acid’which in some people can cause problemswith getting in, or staying in ketosis. Wehad tried to keep a list of “Ketosis friendlydrinks” but due to manufacturers changingingredients it is essential that you ensure theproducts you choose are suitable to the plan.

Tea & Coffee

Tea and coffee are fine to consume providingyou are not using milk beyond your dailyallowance. Some people may find it harder to

get into ketosis with high levels of caffeine soit would be wise to avoid tea and coffee in thefirst four days of the plan, or until in ketosis.

Herbs & Spices

Herbs and spices are allowed in moderationas long as they are fresh or dried, noprocessed products allowed. There are fartoo many herbs and spices to list here soif you are not sure please ask, but here isa list of the most common ones: Basil, Cayenne Pepper, Chicory, Chili Powder, Cinnamon, Cumin, Dill, Fennel, Ginger, Jasmine, Mint, Nutmeg, Oregano, Paprika, Pepper, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage,Turmeric, Vanilla.

Anything that you are not sure about please ask prior to consuming.

Red Meat

If you are following our LCD plan, thenyou are able to include some red meat inyour diet. Unfortunately, to ensure you do not go over your calorie allowance we are not able to quote quantities in this brochure. “Think Lean, Clean & Green”.

Vegetables

On the LCD plan you are allowed to have vegetables.

Forbitten items

Getting support & staying on track

A TFR (total food replacement)diet is a very hard diet to getstarted on if you are not 100%focused. Due to the very lowcalories involved many peoplewill either give up before theyenter ketosis or they will sneak little treats/cheats to keep them going.

If you can keep yourself motivated to seethrough the first three or four days untilentering ketosis you will then see yourappetite decrease and the plan will geteasier and more bearable. Those whofind themselves sneaking a little snackhere and there to keep hunger at bay willnever achieve ketosis and therefore becontinuously hungry throughout their timeon the plan.

It is wise to be aware of how hard the dietis to follow before starting the plan. Wewould advise if you are reading this beforecommencing your diet be sure to pick a day

which will give you adequate time to getorganised, clear your cupboards and prepareyourself for a couple of hard days ahead.At Beauty Vision we have a dedicated team toguide & support you through the whole process.

Re-feeding

When your goal weight is achieved you will want to return to conventional eating without gaining too much weight, most will not want to gain any but this is not possible.

Before you start the re-feed plan it isimportant to be aware of the way aketogenic diet works in respect of weightloss and weight gain and the part glycogenplays in this process.

Everyone loves the results of a VLCDketogenic diet, you can achieve fast results,suppressed appetite, and regular weightloss. However, it is common for peopleto panic when the time comes for takinga break or coming off a VLCD for fear ofgaining weight. There is nothing to be afraidof and we want to start by putting your mindat rest and explaining the process, and whythe weight gain you will have during thistime is not a bad thing!

When on a VLCD diet you are typically inthe region of 40-70g of carbohydrates perday. This level of carbohydrates will forcethe body into a state of ketosis due to thebody not having enough glycogen to use asits main fuel source and switches to usingfat for energy. The breakdown of fats in thisprocess results in 3 different moleculescalled ‘ketones’ two of which: acetoacetateand ß-hydroxybutyrate can be used asenergy by the body, and the third acetonewhich cannot be used by the body and isexcreted in the urine, and also through theprocess of breathing, hence the bad breath.

Re-feeding

WEIGHT PLAN

Glycogen is a branched chain of glucosemolecules made by and stored in the liverand also stored in the muscle cells toprovide the body with an energy source thatcan be used quickly. Glycogen is stored inthe muscle in a 1 to 3 ratio, 1g of glycogento 3g of water. The approximate amountof glycogen the body can hold is said to be50-100g in the liver and 400g in the musclecell. Based on holding 400g of glycogenin the muscle we can estimate that 400gwould hold with it 1200g of water. Combinedthis would give 1600g + the additionalglycogen in the liver would amount to 1700g(1.7kg or nearly 4lb).

When you started the VLCD your body hadto use up all of your carbohydrates from thebloodstream as well as all of the glycogenstored in the liver and muscle, which wenow know could account to around 4lb inweight loss that is not fat. So, when youcome off any VLCD program that involvesketosis you can expect to regain this 4lb ofweight because as soon as you start to eatcarbohydrates they will convert to glycogenand be stored back into the muscle alongwith the water. Remember 1g of glycogenstores in the muscle with 3g of water.After long periods of ketosis your body canalso ‘supercompensate’ the reloading ofcarbohydrates and take in more than yourbody needs.

Supercompensation would be a temporaryphase and would regulate itself within acouple of days at most but initially couldaccount for an extra 2lb in glycogen/waterweight gain.

So remembering that this weight youwill regain is not fat weight you can allowyourself not to be concerned about gainingapproximately 4-6lb in the first week ofre-feeding. If you gain more than 4lb thiswould generally be lost within the nextweek naturally.

The glycogen and water weight you regainhas a positive effect on the metabolismdue to occupying muscle cell area andincreasing the amount of calories yourbody burns each day, so this weight gain iscertainly a healthy one!

Hopefully you are now not afraid of gaininga few pounds once you come off the VLCD. Ifthe weight on the scales is more importantthan how you look in the mirror, then we suggest you lose around 4 to 6lb more than your intended goal weight, this will allow you to still be at goal weight once re-feeding is complete.

To get to the stage of re-feeding you have made a lot of sacrifices and changes to your diet and eating habits to get these results, now the hard work begins! We do not want you to have done all thisfor nothing, we want you to keepthe benefits of your labour andkeep the weight off.Many millions of people are overweight notbecause they eat excessively but becausetheir metabolism is slow and as a result theydo not burn up all of the calories that theyeat. Weight loss is a very simple process, putin its simplest form you must burn up moreenergy (or the same) than you eat. If you eat1800 calories per day and your body onlyburns 1600 calories you have a daily excessof 200 calories.

200 calories per day for 365 days in a year =73,000 kCal

Putting that into perspective, this is theequivalent of 2 slices of dry toast or 3Digestive biscuits a day.

Given that 1lb of fat is equal to 3,500 kCalyou would gain: 20.8lb in only12 months!

As you gained weight over a period oftime there may have been bad habits thatcontributed to your weight gain that you canavoid in future:

• Eating too late at night.

• Not drinking enough water.

• Too much alcohol.

• Eating crisps or sweets.

• Takeaways and junk food.

• Extra snacking.

• Large meal portions.

Some ideas to add to your maintenance planthat may be helpful:

• Choose fruit as a treat rather than chocolate/sweets.

• Always eat at the table and be aware of meal times.

• Avoid refined white bread & pasta.

• Try to do at least 20 minutes exercise every day.

• Get at least 8 hours sleep.

• Never buy bigger clothes, if they do not fit you need to lose weight!

Beyond re-feed: The best way to achieve asuccessful maintenance program is bykeeping a food log and counting calories.With this method you are able to assessyour weight loss/gain against the amount ofcalories you are eating.

If weight is gained:

• Gain 0lb - keep calories the same• Gain 1lb - reduce daily calories by 200• Gain 2lb - reduce daily calories by 400• Gain over 2lb - replace 1 meal with a VLCD product each day.

When on a VLCD you can expect your energy levels to be a lot lower than normal, even when in deep ketosis. Due to the lack of glycogen and water in the muscle, performing too much exercise will actually lower your metabolic rate without increasing fat/weight loss.

When exercising it is important not to traintoo intensely. You are fine to train at 60 to70% of your MHR (Maximum Heart Rate).Maximum Heart Rate is determined by yourage.

Most gym equipment will have sensors foryou to see your heart rate or alternativelyyou could wear a heart rate monitor.

Suitable types of aerobic exercise include:

Power Vibe

Light Aerobic:Cycling (up to 10mph), golf, low impactaerobics, swimming & walking (3mph).

Moderate Aerobic:Cross trainer, cycling (over 10mph), jogging,running (5mph).

WEIGHT PLAN

Do not start a VLCDprogram without beingfully mentally prepared. Pickthe day that you will start andensure you have at least acouple of days to get motivatedand organised before youcommence. Pick a day to startwhen you will be least affectedby the possible side effects ofstarting the diet, i.e headaches,nausea, tiredness & lack ofconcentration in the first threeto five days.

• Do not buy food that you know is going to tempt you!

• Keep off the scales! We know how great it feels to see the scales going down but don’t be fooled into thinking you will see a loss every day because you won’t. Weigh yourself the morning you start three times and take the average, do the same weekly thereafter. Getting weighed multiple times per week or even daily is a sure recipe for disaster. If you stick to the plan you can be confident of great results without hopping on and off the scales.

• Don’t leave it too late to re-order your products! If you run out of products it might just be enough to bring you off the plan. You should aim to pick up your next products while you still have at least two days supply.

• When feeling hungry, remind yourself why you are following the plan and where you want to be in a few months time!

• Starving and just need a nibble? Don’t fall prey to a couple of chips or a slice of toast as this will contribute to bringing you out of ketosis and back to increased hunger and further snacking.

• If you need to go out then be prepared and take a shaker/water and a shake or a bar with you to easily consume while out and about.• Gain over 2lb - replace 1 meal with

Q. Which plan will I lose the most weight on?A. Regardless if you chose to follow theVLCD or the LCD plan the weight losswill be pretty much the same providing that you stick to either plan 100% which means:VLCD: only Healthwise productsLCD: Healthwise products combined with real food and excercise (at least 3 times a week).

Q. How much water do I have to drink and do I have to drink it?A. It is essential that you drink 3 litresof water per day, this includes the water youuse to make up your products . If you have been exercising or losing fluid through heat then increase fluid intake to balance this out.

Q. Can I drink alcohol?A. This is very dangerous and you should notdrink any alcohol while on our program,you should be completely out of ketosisbefore any alcohol is consumed.

Q. I am diabetic can I follow your plan?A. Customers with type 1 diabetes arenot able to follow our plan under anycircumstances. Customers with type 2diabetes who are not on medication fordiabetes can follow our plan providing theyare being monitored by his/her doctor.

Q. Can I use sweeteners in tea/coffee?A. You can use sweeteners in moderation.

Q. Can I have sugar free sweets or sugar free mints?A. No, these still contain carbohydratesand calories that will interfere with theprogram.

Q. Can I have sugar free chewing gum?A. Yes, you may chew up to 2 pieces of sugarfree chewing gum per day for 60 secondseach, then dispose of the gum.
