Once again dedicated racers made life skills presentations called Quick Tips on Winning in Life, based on their own experiences negotiating barricades and potholes on their individual roads to career success, to more than 320 Long Beach and Los Angeles elementary school students, under the auspices of Racers Who Care, Inc., at the 2013 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
And again, we'd originally planned for 780 students, but several groups cancelled, and others were severely depleted, because parents were fearful of sending their children out into crowds at a sporting event just days after the Boston Marathon bombing.
Paddock tours to the areas where teams were working on their race cars, led by racers Lucky Hudson and JD Davis, allowed the students immediate, exciting realtime examples of the racers' Quick Tips.
This was RWC's fourth Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Field Trip and Presentation Program. Each year, the program has been conducted, with a number of groups participating, throughout race weekend. RWC's Field Trip Program at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is entirely planned and organized by volunteers.
Additionally, the participating racers donate their time and are not paid appearance fees.
ONCE AGAIN, THROUGH STUART McINTOSH, OF
GALPIN ASTON MARTIN, GALPIN MADE A
GENEROUS DONATION TO FUND RWC'S 2013 FIELD
TRIP PROGRAM ON BEHALF OF GALPIN'S PREMIER

The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, through Mike McElroy and Chris Esslinger, again very generously donated exhibitor passes and a very large conference room in the Long Beach Convention Center; and our photographers, Chris Ellis and Tyler Deal, received Grand Prix photo credentials.
Students participated from: the Long Beach Boys & Girls Club, Riley Elementary School, Garfield Elementary School, Inglewood Elementary School, View Park Middle School, Downtown Value School, Rise School, Suva Intermediate School, Burcham Elementary School through the Long Beach YMCA, Magnolia Science Academy, King Elementary School, L.A. Leadership Academy, Edison Elementary School, Stearn Park, Vets Park, Silverado Park and Seaside Park.
Once more, as with every year since the Field Trip Program's inception, the City of Long Beach's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, through the efforts of Joy Warren, partnered with Racers Who Care and arranged many of the groups' participation.
Other event partners included the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club headed by Claudia Torres, the Long Beach YMCA headed by Alvaro Rodriguez, and two Los Angeles after school programs, LA

Racers Who Care's Quick Tips on Winning in Life life skills presentations center on key universal truths applicable to all children and teens regardless of age, cultural background, or life experience: find something to do in life that you really love, study, learn the art of teamwork, find a mentor, take the long view, be flexible with your dreams and goals, avoid the path of least resistance, and more.
RWC's presentations are free of charge to the kids' groups, schools, hospitals, and shelters who host them. Our racers donate their time to make these presentations. They do this on their own time, generally as their own, personal project, not through their teams, race associations or sponsors.
Because of knowledge gained through learning the ropes of racing, attaining skills and becoming leaders in their field, racers are uniquely positioned to fill a void in youngsters’ general education between what they learn in school and what they need to know as they approach the realm of adulthood and entering the workplace; how to: establish working relationships, develop coping skills, locate mentors, and other key life practicalities.
