Section 1:

Vision, Mission and Functions

Vision

Encompassing the study and experience of all the arts.

Mission

To explore, study and revive the dialogue in areas pertaining to the arts between neighbouring countries, communities in India and the

world.

Functions 1 Serve as a major resource centre for arts, written, oral and visual;

2 Undertake research and publication of reference works, glossaries, dictionaries and encyclopedia concerning the arts, the humanities and

cultural heritage;

3 Establishment of folk arts (including for tribes) division for conducting systematic, scientific studies and live presentations;

4 Provide a forum for creative and critical dialogue between traditional and contemporary arts;

5 Foster dialogue between the arts and contemporary ideas in philosophy, sciences and technology to bridge the gap between the modern

sciences and arts and culture;

6 Evolve models of research programmes and arts administration appropriate to the Indian ethos;

7 Elucidate the formative and dynamic factors for interactions between and among the diverse social strata, communities and regions;

8 Promote awareness of and sensitivities to historical and cultural linkages between India and other parts of world;

9 Develop a network of communication with national and international centres of arts and culture for expanding the knowledge base in arts,

humanities and cultural heritage
