Abbreviations Used:
Ch – chain dc – double crochet
Puff st – Puff stitch
sl st – slip stitch – Rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
Puff Stitch Coaster
This is a super quick pattern which will allow you to get plenty of practice making
the Puff Stitch.
Follow these steps to make the Puff Stitch - Yarn over hook
once. Insert hook into next stitch. Yarn over once, then pull through a loop. This
gives you a total of 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over hook once. Now insert the hook
into the same exact stitch you just inserted it in last time. You should have 5 loops
on the hook. Yarn over once, then pull through a loop. Yarn over hook once. Insert

Crochet Hook H 5.0mm
a needle for weaving tails

hook in the same stitch again yarn over, then pull through a loop. This will give you a
total of 7 loops on the hook. Yarn over hook once. Insert hook in the same stitch
again yarn over, then pull through a loop. This will give you a total of 9 loops on the
hook Yarn over hook once, and then pull through all 9 loops that are on the hook.
This gives you the puff stitch. You should now be left with just one loop on the
hook. To neatly finish off the puff stitch, yarn over and pull through that one loop
to secure the stitch.
Ch 5, Join with a sl st to first ch
Round 1: Ch4, this counts as the first dc and ch1, Work *(1 dc, ch1)* Rep from * to
* 8 times. Join with a sl st to beginning third ch. You will end up having 10 ch1
spaces and 10 dc.

We will now begin to work the Puffs and you will get plenty practice working this
pattern.
Round 2: *Work a Puff st (see instructions at the beginning) Always make sure to
ch1 to secure Puff st, Ch2, skip next dc* Rep from * to * 8 times, join with a sl st
to the top of the first Puff st made. You should have 10 Puff stitches in each ch2
space.

Round 3: Ch1, work 2sc in the same st, on the next ch2 space work 2sc *(on the top
of the next Puff st made in round 2 work 2sc, on the next ch2 space work 2sc)*
Rep from * to * 8 times. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 4: On the first sc, without making a ch, work a Puff st *(ch1 to close Puff st,
ch2, skip 1sc, work a Puff st on the next sc)* Rep from * to * 17 times. You will end

up with 19 Puff stitches and 19 ch2 spaces. Join to to the top of the first Puff st
made.

There are two different ways you can finish the edge using a sc stitch working one
sc on the top of each Puff st and two sc on each ch 2 space. This is the easiest way
to finish the coaster. If you want a cord like finish you can work the crab stitch
