This Burial Index is based upon the work of the Coffey County Genealogical Society (CCGS). Members of CCGS first completed the project of creating a county-wide cemetery burial index in 1983. Thanks to Della (Becker) Meyer the original Master Index was typed in 1989. Since the late 1980’s, CCGS has witnessed many technology changes. This index was produced from a database of headstone photographs. Thanks to Suzanne Fehr’s dedication and efforts to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, CCGS can now publish this database of headstone photographs on the Society’s website. This 3-ring binder is housed in a weather resistant kiosk constructed by Suzanne Fehr. In 2016, Suzanne designed, constructed and installed the kiosk as a portion of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. Suzanne created partnerships with the CCGS Board and the Waverly Cemetery Board for support of her Gold Award Project. CCGS wishes a special thank you to Suzanne Fehr for making it possible to maintain the Waverly Cemetery Burial Index within the cemetery borders. She is an individual girl member of the Girl Scouts of the USA at Waverly, Kansas.

Special thanks to the following Waverly Cemetery Board members:

Donald Foster Dale Hinderliter Steve Lightle

Waverly Cemetery is divided into two parts – the Old Part and the New Part. Both parts are located one mile east of Waverly in Rock Creek Township, Township 19, Range 16 East Section 13. The Old Part is on the north, St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery is sandwiched in the center and the New Part is on the south. Old Part On April 28, 1885, Henry W. and Harriet M. McFadden of Kason County Illinois transferred 10 acres more or less for $1.00 to the Waverly Cemetery Association for burial purposes only. The land was located in Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter (NE¼NE¼SE¼) of Township 19, Range 16 East, Section 13, except a railroad easement. A 20 x 60 plot reserved for the McFadden Family. (Deed Book 54 Page 338) On January 21, 1910, the Waverly Cemetery Association deeded to George C. McFadden of Havana, Illinois the part of NE¼NE¼SE¼ T19-R16E-S13 situated north and adjoining the north boundary line of the Kansas City, Lawrence and Sattler Railroad Company. (Deed Book 66 Page 490. New Part On February 13, 1929, George Chester McFadden, unmarried man, of Peoria County Illinois deeded to Waverly Cemetery Association for $1,000.00 a track of land beginning at a point 960 feet south of Northeast corner of the Southeast Quarter Township 19 Range 16 East Section 13 thence 528 feet along the east section line thence west 660 feet, north 528 feet east 660 feet to the beginning point. (Deed Book 101 Page 291). On December 26, 1930, the Waverly Cemetery Association turned both Waverly Cemetery tracts over to the Rock Creek Township for $850.00.
