Principal’s report

CHORDS – a spectacular event

What a fabulous performance by our choir at last

week’s CHORDS (Choral & Dance Spectacular)! All

students are to be congratulated for putting in such a

huge effort throughout the year, culminating in this

wonderful event. Special congratulations to members

of the Core Choir – Ella Fitzgerald, Tiger-lily Kemp,

Madeleine Cameron, Luke Moon, Nikita Simpson &

Paige Vanzanten; as well as Felicity Davis – member of

the core dance group. These children performed at

every matinee and evening performance over the 4

days of CHORDS – as well as lots of hours of extra

rehearsal. A mammoth effort! Thank you to Mrs Sue

Davis for preparing our students. Students now have to

wait until 2019 until CHORDS comes around again!

Some of our CHORDS performers before their big night!

Games & Gadgets

Our students are in for a very special treat this Friday!

We have the ‘Games & Gadgets’ van coming for the

day. Students will use a variety of critical thinking,

problem-solving and collaborative strategies as they

participate in some hands-on fun learning activities

with lego, robots, interactive-devices and more!

Welcome 2018 Kinders!

Our 2018 Kindergarten students have commenced

their transition visits over the past 2 weeks. They are

thoroughly enjoying spending time with their big

buddies!

Stage 2 swimming

Our Stage 2 students have been enjoying their

swimming sessions over these past few weeks. All have

made personal gains in their confidence and ability.

Our swimming program is only a short, intensive one

and I would encourage all of our families to ensure

that water safety, confidence and swimming practice

continues throughout these warmer months.

Kay

Junee North Chess Tournament Recap

Following our school chess team’s participating in the

Wagga one day tournament early in term 3, I ran our

own school chess tournament throughout the rest of

the term and into term 4. I use a double elimination

format, so that each student remains in the

tournament after their first loss and is only eliminated

after losing two matches.

This format was particularly beneficial for a number of

players, including some of our chess team members

who were surprised and beaten early on. This included

our eventual champion. Those who surprised early on

with excellent wins against quality opposition included

Luke Moon, Charlie McEwen, Bailey Willis and Cooper

Wright.

The final eight students who had not lost a match were

Kyran Burgess- Finn, Jaxson Allen, Annabell Eccleston,

Paige Vanzanten, Tyler Heir, Bailey Willis, Will Holloway

and Tristan Davis. Eventually Tyler defeated Jaxson and

was the last student remaining who had not lost a

game.

In the second chance draw, some of those who had

surprisingly lost early on, including Ryan Rogers,

Madeleine Cameron and Elizabeth Collins, were

making excellent progress. Elizabeth defeated Bailey

and Ryan, who had defeated Madeleine, to make the

Grand Final against Tyler. To win, Elizabeth would need

to defeat Tyler not once but twice (because he also

had to be given a second chance, if necessary), and

that’s exactly what she did! Tyler started both matches

aggressively and was in front early on, particularly in

the first match. The turning point was Elizabeth’s

capture of Tyler’s queen midway through each game,

from which point she took control of the contests.

So congratulations to Elizabeth Collins, 2017 Junee

North Chess Tournament Champion! She is the first girl

to win our school chess tournament in the seven years

it has been running. Elizabeth follows in the footsteps

of her brother Brandon, who won our tournament the

previous three years before going to High School.

Lastly but most importantly, thanks to all thirty five

players who gave up their own time to participate!

Pirates come to Junee North

On Tuesday 17th

October, 2017 Junee North had some

special pirate visitors. They were teaching the school

how to Re-use, Re-pair, Re-cycle and Re-purpose. The

pirate’s names were Rancid and Roger. Rancid is a girl

and Roger is a boy. They were trapped on a desert

island because their boat sunk on some rocks. They

said the ocean was the Pacific Ocean. They got some

people to help them with everything. They did it in the

hall. They did some actions too. We did some singing

with it as well. I thought it was great. The whole school

got to go. The pirates danced. I loved the

performance!!!

5/6S artists in residence

Throughout this year, 5/6S students have been part of

an Arts project with a focus on learning about

Aboriginal culture, language as well as being immersed

in various artwork styles and techniques used by

several Aboriginal artists. This week they have been

studying the techniques and subjects used by artist,

Tommy McRae. Their artworks will culminate in a

special exhibition in November!

Kindergarten collaborating

Kindergarten have been looking at several procedural

texts, learning how to follow instructions. This week

they worked in teams to create some musical

instruments and a hairy caterpillar!
