The day of work

It was a cool summer day. My mother and I were picking ber-

ries and discussing about the next town meeting when papa

comes out in his fighting uniform. ”Good bye papa.” I said wearily ,

I didn't want him to go off to war, but he had to. After papa left we

had to feed the animals. I walked over to Loretta, the family cow . I

pulled out a piece of hay and gave it to her. I don't know how to

feed a cow but, since papas not here I guess I have to. Then all of

the sudden I herd a scream. It had to be mother. I ran to the barn

were she was feeding the chickens and I saw mother on the

ground. She was unconscious . I could tell because of the big

bump on her head. I had to pull her inside and put her on her

bed. I tried calling her name but all I got was “John, John” (John

was papas name.) The next morning I went straight to mothers

room to see if she was any better. She wasn't. So I thought of what

we needed to today. And since papa and mother were no help I

guess I have to do it all my self. So I made breakfast for me and

mother, I ran to the market and bought eggs, spices and milk. I

have to take care of the animals and the house. After a long day I

went to my room and just couldn't help my self, it was a long day

and I was worried about mother and papa ,when mother call my

name. ”Ellie, Ellie come eat your dinner!” I knew she was getting

better. The next day me and mother were all done chores and

relaxing and sitting on the porch and drink-

ing milk when I saw a grey horse coming in

Our pathway. I saw that there was a man

Riding the horse. When the horse was

close enough to touch, I looked into the

mans eyes and it was papa! Me and mother

Ran to him. I gave him a great big hug. When we got inside I told him

every thing that happened. Years passed, papa passed away from a sick-

ness called smallpox's, the doctor said it was the cause of war. I however,

got married to a soldier named Edward and had three girls and one boy. I

still tell the story of how I had to do every thing myself.
