    Saeguarding

    Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Understanding the Basics(POVA Level 1)

    Duration: Hal-day

    This workshop, intended or social and healthcare providers,

    explains the policies and procedures underpinning an interagency

    approach to assessment and non-criminal investigation

    o abuse. The workshop explores, through the medium o

    presentation, discussion and case scenarios, the identifcation and

    implementation o an eective saeguarding plan that aims to

    prevent abuse.

    Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Recognising and Preventingthe Abuse of Vulnerable People (POVA Level 2)

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is intended or all workers coming into contact with

    vulnerable people. The workshop aims to raise awareness o the

    diering orms o abuse and explain the indicators that can occur.

    The programme will equip individuals with the basic knowledge

    and confdence to act appropriately i they are concerned about

    possibility o abuse within the context o their work.

    Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Assessing and Investigating

    Abuse (POVA Level 3)

    Duration: Two days

    This workshop is aimed at social work and healthcare managers,

    communitycaremanagers(nurses/socialworkers),policeofcers,

    CPS,psychologicalservicesandregulators.Itusespresentation,

    paper-eed exercises and discussion to explore the respective roles

    o statutory agencies in protecting and saeguarding vulnerable

    Managing to Protect (POVA Level 4)Duration: One day

    This workshop is designed or participants, who work with strategic

    managers rom health, housing, social care, police and regulators/

    inspection bodies, to explore joint agency responsibilities and a

    team approach to prevention, protection and detection o abuse to

    vulnerableadults.Itdenesresponsibilitiesandexplainsthelinks

    between investigation, decision making and action.

    Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children Chairing and

    Minute Writing Skills

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is or those who have responsibility or chairing

    and producing accurate minutes o strategy meetings or case

    conerences. The workshop uses practical exercises and role-play

    as a means o helping participants to produce an accurate and

    timely record o an agreed protection plan.

    Train the Trainer Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults or Children

    and Young People

    Duration: Three days

    This programme has been designed to provide support, and develop

    the knowledge and confdence o nominated trainers who are

    responsible or the delivery o specifc saeguarding programmes

    thatfocusonVulnerableadultsorChildrenandYoungPeople.The

    course is interactive and has a clearly defned structure. The principles

    o adult learning and practical activities will be integrated with

    discussion and reection. Participants will be expected to contribute

    to practical activities and presentations within small groups.

    This workshop provides up-to-date inormation, which enables those

    working with children and young people, to identiy and respond

    appropriately to concerns about child saety and well-being.

    Mental Capacity

    Mental Capacity Act 2005 for Providers of Social and HealthCare Service

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is or all providers in the health and social care

    sector. The workshop explores the history o decision-making and

    consent in relation to those who have, in the past, appeared to

    lackcapacity.Itexplainstheprotectionavailabletothosewholack

    capacity and explains statutory protection available to those who

    act without consent or someone who, ater assessment, appears

    to lack capacity.

    Mental Capacity Act 2005

    This workshop is or social work and healthcare managers,

    psychologicalservicesandregulators.Itaimstofamiliarisethose

    working with people with reduced capacity with the requirements

    to make their own decisions.

    Deprivation of Liberty SafeguardsDuration: One day

    This workshop is aimed at social work and healthcare managers,

    communitycaremanagers(nurses/socialworkers)andservice

    providers involved in the provision o residential or nursing home

    care. The workshop, using a human rights based approach, explains

    the background and legal basis or saeguarding the rights o

    vulnerable adults, lacking capacity, who may be deprived o their

    liberty. The workshop uses case studies and discussion to explore

    deprivation o liberty. Practical exercises are used to examine the

    assessment process which may lead to authorised deprivation o

    liberty.

    A Person Centred Approach to Working with People who have

    Dementia

    o dementia might be like and an introduction to person centred

    This workshop is or social services, health and independent

    provider sta. The aim o the workshop is to explore the specifc

    mental health problems o older adults and to equip practitioners

    in mainstream, non-specialist settings with the knowledge and

    skills to think creatively about how to support this specifc group.

    Mental Health Legislation

    This programme has been designed to ocus on the provisions o

    o the measure regarding patients, advocates, LHBs and local

    This workshop aims to provide an understanding o the nature and

    psychology o substance abuse and knowledge o those substances

    commonly abused. We explore the nature o alcohol and other

    abuse substances and the signs and symptoms that may indicate

    abuse is taking place and raise awareness o the eect that their

    own attitudes may have on others.

    Dual Diagnosis

    Duration: One day

    This workshop aims to provide an understanding o the nature o

    co-morbid substance abuse and mental illness and the needs o

    individuals with that dual diagnosis and appreciate the clinical,

    psychologicalandsocialneedsofthisclientgroup.Italsoexplains

    the possible interventions that may be eective with this client

    group.

    Personality Disorder

    This workshop aims to provide an understanding o the natureo Personality Disorder and the controversy surrounding this

    This workshop is or social work and healthcare managers

    with responsibility or assessing the level o need and making

    arrangements or the appropriate provision o support. The

    workshop examines the key elements and reasons or legislation

    in relation to human rights and the links between that and

    communitycare.Itusesarangeoftechniquestoexplorethe

    impact o legislation on individual roles and how human rights

    may be protected.

    The Law and Community Care

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is aimed at social work and healthcare managers

    andcommunitycaremanagers(nurses/socialworkers),including

    those with responsibility or assessing the level o need and making

    arrangements or appropriate provision. The workshop provides

    a comprehensive overview o community care law (legislation,

    guidanceandcaselaw)thatrelatestotheassessmentofneed,

    provision o community care services and arrangements charging.

    Services (FACS)

    examines the concepts behind FACS including risk ranking and

    This workshop is or social work and healthcare practitioners and

    managers with responsibility or assessing risk and supporting

    individuals who exercise choice in relation to decisions about how

    they wish to live their lives. This workshop explains the relationship

    between choice and risk and enables practitioners to arrive at

    a balanced approach to risk so individual human rights are not

    compromised.

    Results Based Accountability (RBA)

    Using RBA as an effective basis for the commissioning of servicesand effective business planning

    This workshop demonstrates the benefts o a Results Based

    Accountability approach to the delivery o high quality, cost

    Improving Outcomes for Service Users

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is aimed at social work and healthcare managers,

    communitycaremanagersandserviceproviders.Itexploresthe

    links between social care assessment, individual planning, results-

    based practice and quality. Traditionally assessors have rarely linked

    assessment with the desired outcomes expressed by individual

    service users. Failure to link these two elements has oten resulted

    in service plans which are more concerned with outputs rather

    than outcomes. This workshop is about listening and responding

    appropriately and linking activity with desired outcomes.

    Outcomes Focused Assessment

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is intended or practitioners with responsibility

    or assessing the level o need and making arrangements or

    the appropriate provision o support. This workshop applies the

    principles o outcome planning and integrates an outcomesapproach within the Assessment Process.

    Supervision and Appraisal Skills

    Duration: One day

    This workshop aims to provide skills necessary to conduct eective

    staffsupervisionandappraisals.Itwillhighlighttheimportanceof

    adequate supervision and appraisal structures in sta development

    and give individuals the tools, techniques and confdence to

    conduct supervision and appraisals.

    Medication Awareness and Administration

    Duration: One day

    This workshop aims to provide an understanding o the importance

    and role o medicine and the necessity to administer it only in

    accordancewithinlegislativeandpolicyguidelines.Itexplores

    the necessity to treat all medicine with respect and to gain

    a knowledge o dierent types, eects and uses o a range o

    medicines. The workshop also explains the principles o medication

    administration and the legal ramework surrounding it.

    Respect and Dignity in Social Care

    Duration: One day and a work-day assessment

    This workshop seeks to develop the practical skills to ensure that

    sta have the knowledge and awareness o how to communicate

    with dignity and respect to service users and their amilies, as well

    as colleagues. Participants will gain a raised awareness o how their

    attitude can aect how people communicate around them.

    This program has been designed as a basic introduction or

    managers or supervisors who are responsible or developing

    teams in the context o social care delivery and then providing

    on-going coaching and mentoring in the workplace. Coaching

    skill development encompasses several competencies: how to

    teach skills, conduct skill practice, coach and mentor on-the-job

    perormance, and reect on practice with positive eect. A basic

    introduction to each o these competencies will be explored

    within the programme.

    Shaping Future Legislation

    This workshop explores ways in which the sector can inuenceuture legislation and discusses how Wales can beneft rom the

    construction o good laws based on evidence and constructive

    engagement. Our associate Jonathan Morgan has spent 12 years

    at the heart o the Assemblys decision making process and is

    passionate about ensuring that organisations have the right tools

    and knowledge to eectively deliver change.

    Teambuilding Film in a day

    Duration: One day

    The aim o this workshop is to train and work with a nominated

    production team on a specifc project, within a specifc timerame,

    inalocationawayfromtheirusualenvironment.Itenables

    participants to learn new skills and explore alternative ways o

    working and engaging with others. The process o creating digital

    video is a great way o developing and improving skills, such ascommunication, sel esteem, confdence and time management.

    Teambuilding Creative Thinking

    Duration: One day

    The aim o this workshop is to enable participants to explore work-

    based issues in a creative and un environment. Each workshop is

    designed to ensure that the expectations and desired outcomes or

    the team are met.

    Teambuilding Boulders Climbing ExperienceDuration: One day

    Workshops at Boulders indoor climbing centre are tailored to ocus

    on achieving specifc training objectives such as; team building,

    leadership, planning, communication or simply some team time un

    or reward day. The challenges encourage a can do attitude and

    very oten result in surprising personal perormances as individuals

    are encouraged and supported as they go beyond their natural

    comort and limits.

    The workshops can also be combined with elements o specifc

    Using Flip Video Cameras

    Duration: One day

    This workshop is aimed at teams or groups o proessionals needing

    to develop new ways o working and engaging with service users. A

    practical development day that aims to explore why and how Flip

    video cameras might be used by an organisation as an accessible

    tool or service user engagement and person-centred planning. The

    workshop is un, practical and highly interactive. Our acilitators workwith participants to develop the skills, knowledge and confdence

    that will be required when using the Flip camera within the context

    o their work.
