INTRODUCTION

Record Keeping is a very essential part today's era. Therefore there should be a software which can keep record of all the employees working in different departments of bus stand .There should also a computerized system to automate the bus depot management for keeping the record of the buses at different route. As we all know with the increasing number of buses this job has become very tedious . As it is very difficult to maintain and manage such records on paper. As it is subject to redundancy and human errors . These types of software are very rarely available in the market . So this is my first attempt to offer a cheap and efficient alternative for the efficient carry out of these activities. This marks the release of version 1 of this software which caters to the following day to day bus depot management activities. The purpose of the software is:- Automation of employee registration Keeping records of all the buses. Keeping the records of route of different buses at different time. In order to punctuate the bus management system. To reduce the duplicacy in records. Generate the tickets.

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT The bus depot management system is efficient, secure ,simple way of maintaining the information of employees working in bus stand .It keeps the record of bus no. and provides the no. of trips by a bus in a day. It provides the information about the time taken by us from one city to other. It will surely help the bus stand management in a user friendly way. The creation of database will also help in reducing the duplicacy of data and chance of mistake in manual system. The database will hepl in maintaining accuracy and quality of record keeping. It will also help in faster retrival of data and updation of information. It automates the employee registration. Because its very difficult to keep the record of employees on paper without any error. This software helps to maintain the records of buses at different routes and depots. It registers the category and unique no. of the bus. According to the category fare between two stops is fixed. As we all know there are many rare software on bus management System. So its a good attempt. Because of computerized system it reduces the duplicacy in keeping the records of buses and employees It also helps to punctuate the bus management system. According to the category of the bus and the distance travelled by the passenger it generates the ticket

SCOPE OF THE PROJECTThis project is a one of the very few of its kind software which caters to the day to day activities bus depot Management therefore there is a huge need for software like this in the field of Transportation. Already even though this is a low level project I still have two commercial orders for this software even before the project is ready for implementation thus one can easily guess the urgent need for cheap and efficient softwares like this one in the trasportation field for management of bus stand all over. and thus there is a huge potential market for this software. This software can be used by bus management for keeping detailed employee histories and buses records along with thier trip and route no. to make their work simpler and more efficient. This software has been made taking into consideration the requirements of the bus stand .

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT

This is a software on bus depot management system aimed at catering to the automation of all major day to day activities that need to be carried out in an ordinary bus stand . This software consists of modules such as login module, employee details, route management module, bus detail etc. The login module is the first module which is visible to the user on starting the software. Here the user has to provide the user name and password which is provided to the employee by the admin and access to various other modules is provided based on the category of the employee which is verified during login. The employee module further has forms for automating employee registration. This module keeps the records of all employee working in different departments. The bus detail module is the major module of the project. Every bus has a category and a unique number associated with it. This project keeps the records of all buses at the depot. It tells about the fare and seats of the bus. The trip module contains the form about trip information. This module specifies the no. of trips by a bus in a day. The form contains bus no.,trip no.,route no.,starting time of trip and end time. The route module is important module of the project. It provides the information between the two locations. From which depot the bus starts and where it stops. Here it gives information about the route between two cities. The form contains bus no., bus type, bus depot, from city,to city, distance between two cities and the most important it describes the path of the bus .

TECHNOLOGIES USED

1) JAVAJava is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. It is the underlying technology that powers state-of-the-art programs including utilities, games, and business applications. Java runs on more than 850 million personal computers worldwide, and on billions of devices worldwide, including mobile and TV devices. Why do we need javaThere are lots of applications and websites that won't work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day. Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere

Features Of Javaa) Simple Looks familiar to existing programmers: related to C and C++: Omits many rarely used, poorly understood, confusing features of C++, like operator overloading, multiple inheritance, automatic coercions, etc. Contains nogotostatement, butbreakandcontinue Has no header files and eliminated C preprocessor Eliminates much redundancy (e.g. no structs, unions, or functions) has no pointersAdded features to simplify: Garbage collection, so the programmer won't have to worry about storage management, which leads to fewer bugs. A rich predefined class library

b) Object-OrientedJava is an object-oriented language, which means that you focus on thedatain your application andmethodsthat manipulate that data, rather than thinking strictly in terms of procedures. In an object-oriented system, aclassis a collection of data and methods that operate on that data. Taken together, the data and methods describe the state and behavior of anobject. Classes are arranged in a hierarchy, so that a subclass can inherit behavior from its superclass.Java comes with an extensive set of classes, arranged inpackages, that you can use in your programs.c) Distributed It has a spring-like transparent RPC system Now uses mostly tcp-ip based protocols like ftp & httpJava supports various levels of network connectivity through classes in the java.net package (e.g. the URL class allows a Java application to open and access remote objects on the internet).d) InterpretedThe Java compiler generatesbyte-codes, rather than native machine code. To actually run a Java program, you use the Java interpreter to execute the compiled byte-codes. Java byte-codes provide an architecture-neutral object file format. The code is designed to transport programs efficiently to multiple platforms. rapid turn-around development Software author is protected, since binary byte streams are downloaded and not the source codee) RobustJava has been designed for writing highly reliable or robust software: language restrictions (e.g. no pointer arithmetic and real arrays) to make it impossible for applications to smash memory (e.g overwriting memory and corrupting data) Java doesautomatic garbage collection, which prevents memory leaks extensive compile-time checking so bugs can be found early; this is repeated at runtime for flexibilty and to check consistency.

f) SecureSecurity is an important concern, since Java is meant to be used in networked environments. Without some assurance of security, you certainly wouldn't want to download an applet from a random site on the net and let it run on your computer. Java's memory allocation model is one of its main defenses against malicious code (e.g can't cast integers to pointers, so can't forge access). Furthermore: access restrictions are enforced (public, private) byte codes are verified, which copes with the threat of a hostile compilerg) Architecture-Neutral compiler generates bytecodes, which have nothing to do with a particular computer architecture easy to interpret on any machine

h) PortableIn c/c++, source code may run slightly differently on different hardware platforms because of how these platforms implement arithmetic operations. In java it has been simplified. In java the size of the primitive data types are machine independent. For eg. An int in java is always a 32 bit integer and float is always a 32 bit.i) High-PerformanceJava is an interpreted language, so it will never be as fast as a compiled language as C or C++. In fact, it is about 20 times as slow as C. However, this speed is more than enough to run interactive, GUI and network-based applications, where the application is often idle, waiting for the user to do something, or waiting for data from the network.j) Multithreaded

Java allows multiple concurrent threads of execution to be active at once. This means that you could be listening to an audio clip while scrolling the page and in the background downloading an image. Java contains sophisticated synchronization primitives (monitors and condition variables), that are integrated into the language to make them easy to use and robust. Thejava.langpackage provides aThreadclass that supports methods to start, run, and stop a thread, and check on its status.

k) DynamicJava was designed to adapt to an evolving environment: Even after binaries have been released, they can adapt to a changing environment Java loads in classes as they are needed, even from across the network It defers many decisions (like object layout) to runtime, which solves many of the version problems that C++ has. Dynamic linking is the only kind there is.

MYSQLMySQL is a open source Relational Database Management System. MySQL is very fast reliable and flexible Database Management System. It provides a very high performance and it is multi-threaded and multi user Relational Database management system.MySQL is one of the most popular relational database Management System on the web. The MySQL Database has become the world's most popular open source Database, because it is free and available on almost all the platforms. The MySQL can run on Unix , window, and Mac OS. ABOUT E-R DIAGRAMER-modeling is a data modeling technique used in software engineering to produce a conceptual data model of a information system. Diagrams created using this ER-modeling technique are called Entity-Relationship Diagrams, or ER diagrams or ERDs. So you can say that Entity Relationship Diagrams illustrate the logical structure of databases. There are three basic elements in ER-Diagrams: Entities are the "things" for which we want to store information. An entity is a person, place, thing or event. Attributes are the data we want to collect for an entitiy. Relationships describe the relations between the entities.EntityEntities are represented by means of rectangles. Rectangles are named with the entity set they represent.AttributesAttributes are properties of entities. Attributes are represented by means of eclipses. Every eclipse represents one attribute and is directly connected to its entity (rectangle).RelationshipRelationships are represented by diamond shaped box. Name of the relationship is written in the diamond-box. All entities (rectangles), participating in relationship, are connected to it by a line.

BINARY RELATIONSHIP AND CARDINALITYA relationship where two entities are participating, is called abinary relationship. Cardinality is the number of instance of an entity from a relation that can be associated with the relation.

One-to-one

When only one instance of entity is associated with the relationship, it is marked as '1'. This image below reflects that only 1 instance of each entity should be associated with the relationship. It depicts one-to-one relationship.

One-to-manyWhen more than one instance of entity is associated with the relationship, it is marked as 'N'. This image below reflects that only 1 instance of entity on the left and more than one instance of entity on the right can be associated with the relationship. It depicts one-to-many relationship.

Many-to-oneWhen more than one instance of entity is associated with the relationship, it is marked as 'N'. This image below reflects that more than one instance of entity on the left and only one instance of entity on the right can be associated with the relationship. It depicts many-to-one relationship

TESTING

Software testing is the process of evaluation a software item to detect differences between given input and expected output. Also to assess the feature of A software item. Testing assesses the quality of the product. Software testing is a process that should be done during the development process. In other words software testing is a verification and validation process.VerificationVerification is the process to make sure the product satisfies the conditions imposed at the start of the development phase. In other words, to make sure the product behaves the way we want it to.ValidationValidation is the process to make sure the product satisfies the specified requirements at the end of the development phase. In other words, to make sure the product is built as per customer requirements.Basics of software testingThere are two basics of software testing: blackbox testing and whitebox testing.Blackbox TestingBlack box testing is a testing technique that ignores the internal mechanism of the system and focuses on the output generated against any input and execution of the system. It is also called functional testing.WhiteboxTestingWhite box testing is a testing technique that takes into account the internal mechanism of a system. It is also called structural testing and glass box testing.Black box testing is often used for validation and white box testing is often used for verification.Types of testingThere are many types of testing like Unit Testing Integration Testing Functional Testing System Testing Stress Testing Performance Testing Usability Testing Acceptance Testing Regression Testing Beta TestingUnit TestingUnit testing is the testing of an individual unit or group of related units. It falls under the class of white box testing. It is often done by the programmer to test that the unit he/she has implemented is producing expected output against given input.Integration TestingIntegration testing is testing in which a group of components are combined to produce output. Also, the interaction between software and hardware is tested in integration testing if software and hardware components have any relation. It may fall under both white box testing and black box testing.Functional TestingFunctional testing is the testing to ensure that the specified functionality required in the system requirements works. It falls under the class of black box testing.System TestingSystem testing is the testing to ensure that by putting the software in different environments (e.g., Operating Systems) it still works. System testing is done with full system implementation and environment. It falls under the class of black box testing.Stress TestingStress testing is the testing to evaluate how system behaves under unfavorable conditions. Testing is conducted at beyond limits of the specifications. It falls under the class of black box testing.Performance TestingPerformance testing is the testing to assess the speed and effectiveness of the system and to make sure it is generating results within a specified time as in performance requirements. It falls under the class of black box testing.Usability TestingUsability testing is performed to the perspective of the client, to evaluate how the GUI is user-friendly? How easily can the client learn? After learning how to use, how proficiently can the client perform? How pleasing is it to use its design? This falls under the class of black box testing.Acceptance TestingAcceptance testing is often done by the customer to ensure that the delivered product meets the requirements and works as the customer expected. It falls under the class of black box testing.Regression TestingRegression testing is the testing after modification of a system, component, or a group of related units to ensure that the modification is working correctly and is not damaging or imposing other modules to produce unexpected results. It falls under the class of black box testing.Beta TestingBeta testing is the testing which is done by end users, a team outside development, or publicly releasing full pre-version of the product which is known as beta version. The aim of beta testing is to cover unexpected errors. It falls under the class of black box testing.

IMPLEMENTATION AND MAINTENANCEImplementationAfter having the user acceptance of the new system developed, the implementation phase begins. Implementation is the stage of a project during which theory is turned into practice. The major steps in- volved in this phase are: Acquisition and Installation of Hardware and Software Conversion User Training DocumentationThe hardware and the relevant software required for running the system must be made fully operational before implementation. The conversion is also one of the most critical and expensive activities in the system development life cycle. The data from the old system needs to be converted to operate in the new format of the new system. The database needs to be setup with security and recovery procedures fully defined.During this phase, all the programs of the system are loaded onto the users computer. After loading the system, training of the user starts. Main topics of such type of training are: How to execute the package How to enter the data How to process the data (processing details) How to take out the reportsAfter the users are trained about the computerized system, working has to shift from manual to computerized working. The process is called Changeover. The following strategies are followed for changeover of the system.(i) Direct Changeover: This is the complete replacement of the old system by the new system. It is a risky approach and requires comprehensive system testing and training.(ii) Parallel run: In parallel run both the systems, i.e., computerized and manual, are executed simultaneously for certain defined period. The same data is processed by both the systems. This strategy is less risky but more expensive because of the following: Manual results can be compared with the results of the com- puterized system. Introduction to System Analysis and Design The operational work is doubled. Failure of the computerized system at the early stage does not affect the working of the organization, because the manual system continues to work, as it used to do.(iii) Pilot run: In this type of run, the new system is run with the data from one or more of the previous periods for the whole or part of the system. The results are compared with the old system results. It is less expensive and risky than parallel run approach. This strategy builds the confidence and the errors are traced easily without affecting the operations. The documentation of the system is also one of the most im- portant activity in the system development life cycle. This ensures the continuity of the system. There are generally two types of documentation prepared for any system. These are: User or Operator Documentation System DocumentationThe user documentation is a complete description of the system from the users point of view detailing how to use or operate the system. It also includes the major error messages likely to be en- countered by the users. The system documentation contains the details of system design, programs, their coding, system flow, data dictionary, process description, etc. This helps to understand the system and permit changes to be made in the existing system to satisfy new user needs.
