EMI Classes at ITS

2008

A voluntary initiative to run some elective courses with EMI

2011

A parallel class at the Department of industrial Engineering dedicated to use EMI

2013

Each department commits to provide classes with EMI if there is international students joining the class

2014

The new academic regulation rules that each department has to run minimum 2 courses with EMI

• Students are recruited after they have been accepted at IE ITS

• Min TOEFL score is 477

• Parent’s consent

• In & out at the end of 2nd semester

Material is not clearly delivered due to several unfamiliar terminologies

There is an overlapping between assessment of language and understanding of the course’s content

Lecturers sometimes still deliver material and announcements in Bahasa

Students are more comfortable to discuss in Bahasa between themselves

Negative Teaching environment are more active with discussion

Students are easier to find other material sources

Lecturers have tendency to encourage student to be actively involved

The existence of the classes with EMI attracts international students
