Information from the District

Technology has become such a vital component in the world we live in. That is why technology is very much present in all of our schools.

This school year for example, every elementary classroom in the district received SMART Boards that allow students to interact with their learning. If you have an elementary student in your family you have probably heard about the SMART Board that is now in their classroom.

Teachers in all grade levels are using this interactive whiteboard technology to enhance their teaching and bring new and exciting resources to the classroom. In short, this technology marries the white board with the classroom computer. The lesson plan is projected onto the whiteboard which then serves as a huge touch screen that teachers and students can use. Dry erase markers are replaced with “digital ink” so that students can practice handwriting and drawing.

The options are endless with this technology and as you can tell, the classroom is looking far different than when many of today’s parents attended school. Students are being prepared for the 21st century. We are doing everything we can to not only ready them for their future, but engage students early by meeting their learning needs in ways that are relevant, meaningful and exciting.

A huge thank you to the Prior Lake-Savage Area Educational Foundation and the many PTC parents and students who fundraised for SMART Boards to help make this technology a reality in our schools.

The next time you are in one of our schools, stop in and see one of the SMART Boards being used. I guarantee you will want to “go back” to elementary school!

Our MissionThe mission of the Prior Lake-Savage Area Community Education Services Program is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens by helping to provide opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities. To accomplish this mission requires that parents, family, schools, churches, businesses, community organizations and all people living within our community work together. This can be done through a cooperative effort in meeting the recreational, educational, social and cultural needs and wants of the community.

After School Class Safety Procedures Please Note: These procedures have been modified for 2009-2010. To ensure the safety of your child, please follow these simple steps: • Assume your child will attend the program if you have submitted a registration. • Notify Community Education and send a note to school if you do not want your child to attend a program for which

they are registered. • Teachers will be notified of class list prior to class, but parents are encouraged to send a note to their child’s teacher for

additional assurance. • Complete the entire registration form with every registration. • Pick children up on time in the program classroom. Students not picked up on time will be taken to that school’s Kids’

Company Program and you will be charged at the rate of $10 per hour. The entire rate will be collected for any portion of the hour. This service is offered for emergency situations only. Please make prior arrangements for care or pick up of your child whenever possible.
