Using the colour star to subdue unwanted tones. Opposites on the colour star are used to counteract unwanted tones

What would you use to subdue yellow?

Using a violet toner will subdue hair that is too yellow.

A client’s hair is too khaki matt in tone. What would you use to tone down the hair?

We can subdue unwanted colours by using opposites on the colour star. These are called complimentary colours.

Blue ash toner would tone down copper.
