Quarterback Curtis Painter started the game and com- pleted 11-of-21 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns while wide receiver Reggie Wayne topped the 100-yard mark with six catches for 105 yards and one touchdown. Joseph Addai paced the Colts running backs with 44 yards on eight carries. The NFL regular season opens next weekend as the Colts travel to Houston for an AFC South Division meeting. For Indianapolis, the game marks the third consecutive year the team has opened the schedule with a division foe. Entering the season, the Colts continue to hold the NFL’s longest playoff streak, which now sits at nine seasons. Fol- lowing last year’s 10-6 record, Indianapolis has also pro- duced nine consecutive double-digit victory campaigns. Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell enters his third season at the helm. The Colts will travel to Cincinnati to battle the Bengals inthe preseason finale on Thursday, September 1 at PaulBrown Stadium. COLTS SIGN COLLINS

The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Kerry Collins onAugust 24, 2011.Collins, 6-5, 247 pounds, is entering his17th NFL season and has spent time with the Carolina Pan-thers (1995-98), New Orleans Saints (1998), New York Gi-ants (1999-2003), Oakland Raiders (2004-05) andTennessee Titans (2006-10). In 195 career NFL games(177 starts), Collins has completed 3,439-of-6,163 passesfor 40,441 yards, 206 touchdowns, 195 interceptions anda 73.9 quarterback rating. Collins’ attempts and comple-tions both rank ninth in NFL annals while his passingyardage ranks 11th in the league.“It is a good opportunity to have Kerry become part of theteam,” said Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell. “He is a vet-eran quarterback who has started many games and hebrings dimension and depth to the quarterback position,which will be helpful. He is familiar with our division and willmake a great addition to our roster.”Collins was originally selected by Carolina in the first round(fifth overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft, the first player everchosen by the Panthers. The Colts currently have three players on their trainingcamp roster who hail from the Indianapolis area, includingoffensive tackle Joe Reitz (Hamilton Southeastern) and un-drafted free agent running backs Darren Evans (WarrenCentral) and Chad Spann (North Central) Evans and Spanncompeted against each other on the gridiron yearly in theirprep years. Evans was the 2006 EA Sports National Playerof the Year, a Parade All-America choice and was votedThe Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Football in his final sea-son. As a senior, Evans rushed for 2,806 yards and a staterecord 61 TDs. As busy as the Colts were re-signing their own players in-cluding the likes of quarterback Peyton Manning, runningback Joseph Addai, kicker Adam Vinatieri and offensivetackle Ryan Diem, the team also inked deals with defensiveend Jamaal Anderson, linebacker Ernie Sims and defensivetackle Tommie Harris.

Anderson, 6-6, 289 pounds, was theeighth overall selection by Atlanta in the2007 NFL Draft. In four seasons with theFalcons, the Little Rock, Arkansas nativestarted in 47 of 60 career contests and tal-lied 4.5 sacks, nine passes defensed andtwo forced fumbles. At Arkansas, Ander-son earned First-Team All-SEC accolades

while being named to the honorable mention All-Americateam in his junior season (2006). He led the conference insacks with 13.5 while contributing with 19.5 tackles for loss.

Sims, 6-0, 230 pounds, is a five-year NFLveteran who spent four seasons with theDetroit Lions (2006-09) and the 2010 cam-paign with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 74career contests, the Tallahassee, Floridanative has totaled 475 tackles (329 solo),4.5 sacks, one interception, 10 passes de-fensed, five forced fumbles and three fum-

ble recoveries. He started all 16 contests in his first threeseasons in Detroit and in 2007, totaled a career-high 134tackles while grabbing his first career interception. In hisfinal season at Florida State (2005), Sims was a semifinalistfor the Butkus Award while garnering All-ACC honorablemention honors. He set a career-high with 10 tackles forloss, while registering 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and afumble recovery that year.

Harris, 6-3, 295 pounds, has competed inall seven of his NFL seasons with theChicago Bears after being selected by theteam in the first round (14th overall) of the2004 NFL Draft. A three-time Pro Bowl se-lection (2005-07), he has started 90 of 104career games while totaling 286 tackles(155 solo), 28.5 sacks, 38 tackles for loss,

five forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, four passesdefensed and one interception. Last season, Harris saw ac-tion in 15 contests and recorded 18 tackles, 1.5 sacks, twofumble recoveries and one pass defensed. He totaled a ca-reer-high 59 tackles in 2005, his first season being votedto the Pro Bowl and contributed with a career-high eightsacks in 2007.
