Current ASD-W Public Portal Access

Where Are We Now?

Minto Memorial High School: Parent & Student Access Grades 11 & 12

Concern: Minto's parent numbers are too low for us to get any base line of impact

Concern: Difficult to determine the impact on Teachers or Admin Assistants

Next Steps:  Initiate Large High School Pilot

Why?

Larger data set **May need to add additional points here** To understand the impact on Administrative workload

Goal: September 21, 2015.

Possible Candidate: Oromocto High School

OHS has been the only large school that has moved exclusively to Gradebook.

Majority of Teachers are confident in the assessment practices of Gradebook.

Have a strong group of SPRs who would support this change.

Administration supports initiative.

Key Points to Consider…No current plans for K-8 Parent Access

Since of the change in the assessment practices, teachers are generally unsure of new process.

Tentative Goal:  K-8 by Jan., 2016

Understanding and Effective use of Gradebook is KEY

IMPACT: Additional Project Cost

Other:

Role of Lead Teachers:

PD and Release Time

Develop PD for them

F2F training on Gradebook for all teachers

1 day / grade levelTake a day in August.  No cost to the project on that day.

Snow days… Students can pick-up assignments online.

Schools/Teachers have an online presence for students & parents 24/7 regardless of school closures.

Other Considerations… Geo-Fencing Issue:  Gagetown… parents are widely dispersed. How can we leverage this positively without creating data

security issue?

ASD-W believes the Parent Portal is a implementation on its own and that they have contributed enough to the SIS

Implementation.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dianne Kay would want a DEDICATED resource to review each teacher’s Gradebook

prior to opening the Parent Portal in OHS

Determine Roles: Marc Michaud / Jeff Holder

Alignment with School Improvement Plan- SIP /DIP

PSSC:  Parent School Support Committee…. Should have a communication

What about Mentors? Focused role specific to Gradebook?

Not all parents have home internet

Publicly accessible

PowerSchool Mobility component

Email student assessment results (PS authentication?)

Tie-in to DIP & SIP and PLEP

Teacher/Parent email impact?

Student email assignments to teachers?

Risk:  larger PR/media issue.
