Under the visionary leadership of Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Gujarat
Technological University successfully organized Two Week FDP (Faculty Development
Program) on “Power Electronics & Basic Electrical Technology” at GTU Chandkheda
Campus, Ahmedabad from 2nd to 12th June, 2015. The FDP aimed to improve teaching and
learning concepts of Power Electronics & Basic Electrical Technology which are
fundamental subjects of Electrical Engineering. The FDP was conducted in two phases:
WEEK 1: POWER ELECTRONICS (2 - 5 June, 2015)
WEEK 2: BASIC ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY (8 – 12 June, 2015)
The entire FDP was conducted by Prof. SabyasachiSenGupta, Ex. Vice Chancellor – WBTU
and Professor,IIT-Kharagpur. The course content of FDP was extracted from NPTEL
(National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning).A short written evaluation test
was conducted at the end of the FDP.

The workshop commenced with welcome speech by Ms. NidhiThakore-Program
Coordinator. Inaugural session was graced by Dr. R.H. Rajput - I/C Registrar GTU, Mr.
NareshJadeja - Convener and Deputy Director GTU, Mr. Ravish H. Hirpara- Assistant
Professor and Program Coordinator, Ms. NidhiThakore and faculties from different colleges
of Gujarat. Dr. R.H. Rajput warmly welcomed the speaker Prof. SenGupta by delivering
encouraging words to all the participants and motivated them for attending such events of
GTU. Mr. NareshJadejaexplained the objectives, importance and the initiatives of GTU for
faculty development and also suggested that all the participating faculty members should
take maximum benefit from this FDP.
The subject expert Prof. SabyasachiSenGupta started with brief introduction of Power
Electronics and its various components.
The following concepts were discussed in the Two Week FDP:

It ended with a short numerical based evaluation test.
The FDP was executed successfully and was very well appreciated by all the
participants. The FDP came to the end with a valedictory session and distribution of
certificates to the participants.
The feedback was extremely positive. All responses were enthusiastic about the content
andthe overall quality of the FDP and we received excellent feedback for the speaker’s
special teaching technique and presentation skill.
