What is grit and why is it important? Grit is small, hard particles of pebbles or sand that stay in the gizzard, a muscular part of the stomach that grinds grains and fiber into smaller, more digestible particles.

How many eggs will I get? Hens will begin laying at 5-6 months of age. Each hen will lay 5-6 eggs a week (one egg every 26-28 hours).

Are oyster shells really needed? Free-choice oyster shells or other calcium sources are recommended for laying hens. Laying hens require about 3x the calcium compared to non-laying hens. Even with a balanced diet, egg production can quickly deplete calcium levels in laying hens.

How many chickens should I get? Chickens are social animals, two or more is ideal. Follow local ordinances. Some states require a minimum purchase of six at a time.

FEEDING DIRECTIONS

18% Miracle Starter Crumbles

For chicks up to 12 weeks of age. Feed as the sole ration to chicks free-choice from hatch until 12 weeks of age. At 12 weeks of age, birds should be gradually transitioned to BUCKEYE® Nutrition 15% Pullet Grower Crumbles.

15% Pullet Grower Crumbles

For chicks up to 12 weeks of age to laying. Feed as the sole ration to pullets 12 weeks of age as a finishing diet until they begin laying (typically 18 to 24 weeks of age). Continue to feed until hens begin egg production then gradually transition to BUCKEYE® Nutrition 16% Prosperity Layer Crumbles or 18% Layer/Breeder Pellets.

16% Prosperity Layer Crumbles For hens laying less than 75% production. Feed as the sole rationfree-choice to hens laying at less than 75% production rate.

18% Layer/Breeder Pellets

For laying hens, breeding hens and game birds. Feed as the sole ration free-choice to laying hens, breeding hens and game birds for maximum production and improved hatchability. Do not feed 18% Layer/Breeder Pellets to young and growing birds not in production due to the high level of calcium.

20% Gold Standard Crumbles

For laying hens in egg production. Feed to laying hens at the rate of 60% Gold Standard Layer Crumbles and 40% scratch or cracked corn for average egg production. For lighter weight hens and hens in extremely heavy production, feed at the rate of 70% Gold Standard Layer Crumbles and 30% scratch or cracked corn. Do not feed 20% Gold Standard Layer Crumbles to laying hens for extended periods of time or to young, growing birds not in production due to the high level of calcium.

Big 4 Pellets

Growing Turkeys Feed as the sole ration to growing turkeys from ten weeks of age.Game Birds To be fed to non-laying game chickens over two weeks of age as a source of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals. May also be fed to growing pheasants and Bobwhite Quail as the sole diet after seven weeks of age.
