Urban Strategies
The liberated ground plane of the Garden of Letters physically and conceptually links the Plaza to the City anddraws the open spaces and aqueous systems planned for the Centro Cultural Universitario into a landscapeof fecundity beneath the shadow of the labyrinth of memories housed above. Bridges, routes and circuitsthrough the garden and over the waters permit expedient passage or allow one to linger.
Programme Strategies
Gallery, Auditorium, Theatre and Library emerge from the terrain of the Garden of Letters. Café and LibraryStore animate the Plaza. Entry into the Browsing Collection initiates visitors into a sequence of library spacesmodeled on the idea of a theatre of Memories. Upper level Library programmes are organized around the exterior waterwall void, and the vast Hall of the Book. Passage between spaces is marked by thresholds of skyand water. Intimate interior and exterior spaces for retreat and contemplation ring the library perimeter offering relief from the compression of the stacks.
