Higher Educa on Challenge Grant Program
Deadline February 8, 2013
The Higher Educa on Challenge (HEC) Grants Program is a program focused on improving formal, postsecondary‐level agriculture sciences educa on. Guided by cri cal societal issues laid out in the “New Biology for the 21st Century” report, as well as the five compelling NIFA Priority Areas, HEC‐funded projects provide funding to eligible applicants to help ensure a competent, qualified and diverse workforce to serve the food and agricultural sciences system. At the same me, HEC‐funded projects improve the economic health and viability of rural communi es through the development of degree programs emphasizing new and emerging employment opportuni es. Finally, HEC projects focus on the na onal challenge to increase the number and diversity (i.e., having an agricultural sciences workforce representa ve of the na on’s popula on) of students entering other food and agriculture‐related science, technology, engineering, and mathema cs (STEM) disciplines.
USDA‐NIFA has refocused its mission to direct agricultural sciences research, educa on, and extension programs on addressing the following five Priority Areas: Food Security and Hunger, Climate Change, Sustainable Energy, Childhood Obesity and Food Safety.
Public ins tu ons of higher educa on are eligible to apply. The deadline is the close of business day on February 8, 2013. Please find the applica on here.
