“WISTAX is the state's oldest and
most respected private govern-
ment research organization. Since
1932, it has been promoting better
government and an informed citi-
zenry through its publications,
public outreach and extensive
school programs. Nonpartisan
and fiercely independent, the Wis-
consin Taxpayers Alliance has
earned an unrivaled reputation for
accurate, objective research - for
telling the truth simply and di-
rectly. WISTAX does not lobby

Dear Chamber
Members,
As I mentioned
last month,
March was a
busy month
for confer-
ences. The Wisconsin Governor’s
Conference on Tourism was phe-
nomenal! Its theme of “The
Power of Tourism” was right on
target and we were given tools
that will make promoting our
great area of the State even better.
The 5th Annual Tri-State Tourism
Spring Conference packed a pow-
erful message on the importance
of promoting our area regionally.
We are so fortunate to have the
partnerships that we have in the
tri-state area as it makes our re-
gion much better for the visitors
we attract. The Southwest Leg-
islative Day went very well –
thank you to the committee that
put this together. It is so impor-
tant for us to be advocates for
our communities here in this
corner of the State.
We have rescheduled our break-
fast presentation by Todd Berry,
the President of the Wisconsin
Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX)
for Thursday, April 28th at
7:00AM at the Millennium Cin-

that when we would come to
Platteville for some free time and
shopping that the people were
always so gracious, and we still
do. We are fortunate to be a part
of this area. Being a part of the
Chamber and being a part of the
board it has really opened my
eyes on what we do to promote
the community and area, and I
learn everyday a little more. I
also believe being on the board
though that we cannot take sides
on issues in the community, sup-
porting one side or the other.
I feel our mission as an organiza-
tion is to promote our wonderful
community and its surrounding
area.
We all support each other and
that is what makes our commu-
nity so strong and special.
Also let us continue to keep
Kathy and Joe, her mom, Esther,
and the rest of her family in our
thoughts and prayers, since the
death of her father, Robert
“Bob”, McFall, who died on
March 20. Our thoughts are with
all of you.

Chamber President
Well we are starting April off
with showers, so hopefully in
May we will have flowers and
green grass. I have to say that our
membership renewal is a lot better
than the weather and for all of you
THANKS for all of your support.
As a chamber member I feel it is
so important to promote our com-
munity and the surrounding area’s
to its fullest. I have always felt,
even back when Laura and I lived
in Richland Center, and Muscoda,
“Our Business
After Hours are

us each month for
this great
networking
opportunity”

Welcome!
candidates for public office, or take positions on state or
local government issues. It is not affiliated with any other
organization - national, state or local”.
With the importance and spotlight on the State’s upcoming
budget, we feel that this presentation will be very informa-
tive. Todd will be speaking at the Millennium Cinema at
7AM. Take 2 Restaurant will be providing a continental
breakfast. There will be time for Q&A. Reservations are
required, so please call Debi ASAP!
Membership retention is quite strong and we are seeing
new members as well. We are on an aggressive path to
recruit new members that will enable your Chamber or-
ganization to continue providing support and promotion of
your businesses and organizations.
Our 2011 Community Guide is just “hot off the press” and
it looks awesome! Thank you to the Shopping News for
our partnership in making this publication a key piece of
promoting the City of Platteville. Copies will be available
after Monday, April 4th. Please feel free to stop in and get
a supply!
I’d also like to acknowledge the contributions to our com-
munity by two long-standing, exemplary businesswomen,
Kay Helker and Anne Klawiter. Kay retired at the end of
March and Anne will be retiring at the end of April. Your
legacies will be felt for a long, long time. Congratulations
to both and best wishes for your future endeavors!
The Chamber staff is working at a fast pace to get ready
for all the events, festivals, workshops and celebrations
that we have planned in the next few months. We could
always use some volunteers, so if you have a few hours or
know of someone who may be interested, please let me
know!

Southwest Health Center CEO announces Retirement Southwest Health Center President and Chief Executive Office Anne Klawiter has announced her plans to
retire at the end of April after serving 22 years in the organization’s top leadership position.
During Klawiter’s tenure, Southwest Health Center (SHC) has expanded its services and programs on behalf
of residents in southwest Wisconsin as well as its impact on the region’s health and healthcare. Among the
highlights of Klawiter’s career was the 2005 opening of a new, 94,000 square foot hospital facility, a mod-
ern patient-centered replacement hospital. SHC has also been widely and consistently recognized for exem-
plary patient satisfaction under Klawiter’s leadership. In addition to frequent acknowledgement for it’s qual-
ity nursing home care and resident satisfaction, SHC has been honored with both the prestigious Press
Ganey Summit Award for patient satisfaction and the national Hospital of Choice Award bestowed by the
American Alliance of Healthcare Providers. Klawiter began her employment with SHC in 1973 as a Staff
Radiologic Technologist. She was promoted to Chief Radiologic Technologist in 1976 and to Assistant Administrator in 1979. In
1981, the former Platteville Hospital and Nursing Home and the Cuba City Hospital and Nursing Home consolidated services to
become Southwest Health Center. At that time, Klawiter was named Vice President. In 1989, SHC engaged HealthTech Manage-
ment Services, formerly known as the Lakewood Group and Brim Healthcare, to manage the hospital. Klawiter has served as
President and Chief Executive Officer since that time.
Voss announced that HealthTech will place an Interim Chief Executive at the Health Center while they conduct, along with the
SHC Board of Directors, a national search among the best possible candidates for the regular CEO position.
The QTI Group has moved! I am glad to announce that QTI has moved to a new location. We are now located in the suite building by Tri-County Dialysis.
Our new address is 1250 E. Hwy 151 Suite D P.O. Box 651 Platteville, WI 53818. Our phone number has stayed the same

Congratulations to HONKAMP KRUEGER & CO., P.C. Honkamp Krueger & Co., P.C., headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa and with a branch location in Platteville, has been named one
of the Top 100 CPA firms in the United States by Accounting Today (March 11). In addition to being in the Top 100,
Honkamp Krueger was honored as the seventh fastest growing CPA firm in the nation and the fastest growing firm in the Mid-
west. Gregory C. Burbach, CPA, CFP ® , the firm’s managing partner, states, “It is very exciting to be one of the Top 100 and
the seventh fastest growing CPA firms in the nation plus the fastest in the Midwest. It shows our clients of all sizes and indus-
tries that we are dedicated to forward-thinking, effective ideas that grow a business. We also have a phenomenally talented
staff who are dedicated to exceeding our clients’ needs.” For more information, please visit the firm’s Web site at
www.honkamp.com.

Congratulations to MONTCHEVRE-Betin, Inc! Dairy Business Innovation Center Honors Two Wisconsin Companies for Excellence! Two Wisconsin dairy companies were recognized Friday by the Dairy Business Innovation Center for their leadership and
dedication to growing Wisconsin’s dairy industry. The sixth annual “DBIC Innovation Zone Awards” were presented to Up-
lands Cheese from Dodgeville, Wis., and Montchevre in Belmont, Wis., to highlight the accomplishments of both companies in
product and technology innovation. The award ceremony, which also honored all past award-recipients, took place March 11 at
the DBIC’s Awards & Celebration Dinner at The Pyle Center in Madison.
President Arnaud Solandt and Cheesemaker Jean Rossard accepted the DBIC Innovation Zone Award on behalf of their team at
Montchevre, which has grown significantly in the last decade to become the largest goat cheese producer in the United States.
Today, Montchevre processes 50 million pounds of goats’ milk from 300 farms. And, last fall, the company installed an an-
aerobic digester to utilize cheese plant waste to create bio-gas used to generate electricity.
"We are proud to be at the point where instead of just discarding our whey, we now capture it as a byproduct, transfer it to
make power, and produce cheese," Rossard said. “We’ve come full circle.”
Dan Carter, DBIC Founder and Chairman, recognized both Uplands Cheese and Montchevre as leading dairy innovators in the
United States. “Wisconsin is proud to be home to some of the best cheesemakers in the nation. It is a thrill to be in this room
tonight to recognize that the future of America’s Dairyland is bright.”
MONTCHEVRE was the Chamber’s 2010 recipient of the Outstanding Award in the Field of Agriculture. CONGRATULATIONS!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
FEBRUARY 16, 2011
MINUTES Those present: Bahr, Boldt, Cullen, Krueger, McWilliams, Melby, Nevins, G. Osterholz, T. Osterholz, Patnaude, Pluemer, Rupp,
Sigwarth, Vaassen and Kopp.
Those absent: Luedtke, McKinley and Nickels.
President Melby called the meeting to order. Steve’s Pizza Palace was acknowledged as our February beverage sponsor. Cullen
moved to approve the minutes from the January board meeting. Seconded by Bahr. Motion carried.
The financial report was tabled until March. Kopp noted that the January P&L that dues are $26,893 with total revenue of $41,819.
Total expenses are $8,314.02 with a net income of $33,504.98.
There were no minutes of the Executive Committee as they have not met.
Old Business:
Bahr presented an overview of the 48th Annual Celebration and Virtue Awards night. We had a record turnout, with over 160 people
in attendance. The premiere of the Discover Wisconsin episode was excellent. There was a concern in that we ran out of food at one
point. The committee will be discussing this at their next meeting. There is a consensus to hold the 2012 Celebration at the Univer-
sity on Friday, February 12th.
Kopp presented each board member with a membership folder for their use in helping to recruit new members as part of the aggres-
sive membership drive for 2011.
New Business:
Kopp noted that she continues to collect information as we move toward the development of a Chamber Tourism Council from other
Chambers and CVB’s throughout the State. It was agreed that we continue to develop this Council.
A list of proposed Committee Chairs was presented and approved by President Melby. Committee Chairs for 2011 are: Executive
Committee - Matt Melby; Marketing & Business Committee - Jeremy Patnaude; Tourism Committee - Eileen Engelke; Education

Dells. Copies of the goals of the City’s Tourism Commission were distributed. The 4th quarter room tax report for 2010 has been
received. The amount distributed to the Chamber was $13,503.93 compared to $13,608.66 a year ago. We have received notice that
we were successful in obtaining a grant for $7311 from the Department of Tourism through their visitor center grant program. It was
noted that this is a reimbursement for expenses of staffing incurred by the Chamber and was not a duplication of monies received
through room tax.

Marketing & Business: Patnaude reported that they met and recapped holiday 2010 and are working plans for 2011.
