THE DEAN
I take this opportunity to welcome all recruiters to Tezpur University campus. We take pride in presenting
our students who have been groomed in a holistic manner. The students have not only been trained in their
respective specializations, but also allowed to take up courses beyond the MBA curriculum (Choice Based Credit
System). This we believe helps them in avoiding tunnel vision. An exposure to foreign language course and yoga
also helps in widening their horizon. Soft skill development is an ongoing process happening via presentations,
report writing, event management and insistence on a formal dress code.
Our students take part in extra-curricular activities and win laurels for the department. Organizing events
in the department has led to enhancement of organizing skills. We are particular about instilling a sense of ethics
in our students. We would like to believe that they are self-directed and self-motivated.
I take pride in my colleagues, the faculty of the Department of Business Administration, who take all the
pains to impart knowledge as well as skill to the students. They are involved not only in teaching but also in
research and consultancy work. You are invited to browse through our departmental website to have a glimpse
of the kind of work that is being carried out. Our faculties have both national and international exposure via
attending conferences/seminars, attending workshops/orientation/refresher programs, as invited faculty to
other institutions, as external examiners of PhD defense, being part of NAAC visits, by availing international
fellowships etc. Very few management departments/institutions in the country have this unique strength of
having a large group of core faculty with PhD qualification, along with industry experience. We also conduct
corporate trainings on as well as off campus. Our learning and experience in such activities gets transferred to
our students.
I would like to assure you that your interaction with our students will be a fruitful one. We have equipped
them with the theoretical concepts as well as practical exposure and with your guidance they will do justice in
your workplace. We look forward to a long sustaining and meaningful relationship with your organization.

Today Tezpur University is a name well known not only in the country but also worldwide. Apart from
being the only ‘A’ accredited university (by NAAC) in Assam, it takes the pride in being honoured by the President
of India as the Best Central University in India for the year 2016, being ranked as the 5th best institution in higher
learning in India (NIRF) and being placed by Times Higher Education among the top 800 institution of higher
learning (within 601-800) in the world.
The Department of Business Administration of Tezpur University under the School of Management
Sciences has its own identity and is rated highly by various agencies. It has grown from strength to strength since
its inception in the year 1995, carving a niche for itself in the landscape of management education and research.
MBA is its flagship programme and 21 batches of MBA had passed out. The alumni of this department are
occupying responsible positions in reputed organizations across the globe. Our students are sought after by the
industry, and we are glad that every year the number of companies coming for campus recruitment and selection
has increased.
Today, getting the right kind of talent and its management has become a challenge for the organizations
as they not only look for capable persons with certain skills but also people with strong values who are driven by
a desire to perform, and are committed to their work and the organization. Considering this aspect we take care
to see that our students are groomed for their professional/corporate world by an able and dedicated team of
faculty as well as leaders from the industry. The focus is on holistic development of the students and
interdisciplinary learning in an impeccable environment that can nourish the budding talents. Efforts are exerted
to imbibe the right kind of values in them. Students are provided ample scope to work in teams and manage
events. The focus is not only imparting inputs from the syllabi but beyond that. Hence, workshops, seminars,
trainings, field visits, assignments etc. are regular feature that equip our students with the additional skills. They
are encouraged to be innovative, excellence oriented, adaptable, responsible and at the same time accountable,
and have caring attitude towards people around them and the surroundings.
I take this opportunity to invite organizations to visit the Department of Business Administration of
Tezpur University for campus recruitment and selection this season. We will be glad to host you.
With best wishes,
Dated the 30th September 2016
(Papori Baruah)
Established by an Act of Parliament in 1994, Tezpur University is a premier educational
destination in the North-east India. The 262-acre sprawling campus of the University is located 15km
east of Tezpur in the cradle of natural beauty away from the hustle and bustle of the city – thus
providing a perfect ambience for the pursuit of education and research with state-of-the-art
infrastructure. One of the outcomes of the historic Assam Accord, the University has come of age in
scaling new heights in academic and co-curricular achievements. In recognition of its quality
education and research, the President of India in his capacity as the Visitor of all central universities,
bestowed upon the University the prestigious Visitor’s Best University Award for the year 2016. This
was followed by the MHRD-NIRF India Rankings 2016 that placed Tezpur University at the 5th Rank
among all universities in the country. The University received another shot in the arm when the
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded it “A” grade in May 2016. In yet
another rare recognition, the University found itself among the top 800 universities of the world in
the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2016. Buttressed by these encouraging
developments, Tezpur University is surging ahead with the objective of meeting the new challenges
and preparing its students to fit into the new needs.
With 3800 students, 260 faculty and 280 technical and administrative staff converging from
all parts of the country and more than a dozen from abroad, Tezpur University is the ideal place to
work and grow in a plural condition. It leaves no stone unturned in preparing and moulding the
students so that they meet the expectations of the employers and the people in general.

10 | PLACEMENT BROCHURE
Dr. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma Professor, Department of Business Administration
When the Department of Business Administration readied the 1st batch of MBAs in 1996, it did an “unthinkable” – brought out a Placement Brochure for the first time in the entire region and among the very few in the country. It was made possible even as we are situated in a place that is supposedly geographically “isolated”, and yes, the corporates have been appreciating our efforts right from the maiden group of our graduates.
Our challenge has been to take on the world with non-traditional approach to management education. For us education is not only few credits of classes, assignments, cases or field visits – but also a holistic development of the overall faculties of the students, because we are convinced that the corporate world would look for a complete “partner” rather than a mere employee. A knowledgeable partner, who is physically and mentally at the prime of her/his health can do wonders in any set up. Therefore, we not only take pain on exposing our guys in the best ways of doing business anywhere in the globe, but also we make them ready to take up the strenuous life of a junior corporate through rigorous practice on discipline, high moral standard and unfailing integrity.
We have been able to convert the geographical “seclusion” into an opportunity by creating a serene and composed environment in the Campus that is conducive to a real modern day “gurukul”. It is nice to know that our guys could hone their skills much faster by inhaling pure oxygen in the suburb of the least polluted city in the country (WHO, 2016).
Now it is the turn of the world to get benefitted from all our hard work and get blessed.
Dr. Arup Roy Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration
Our vision is to be a coveted knowledge hub of management education for creating socially responsible global citizens. The curricula of the MBA programme are dynamic as well as industry oriented which is revised every three year. Our students are scrupulously trained in the class room and at the same time given lots of responsibility in the form of organizing various events like Industry Academia Interactions, Business Quiz, Corporate Lectures and many more at the state and National level. Academic rigour in the course design and delivery of the programmes, various pedagogic tools, foreign languages, industry visits, and regular interactions with corporates along with some social initiatives help our students develop not only a holistic business perspective but an ability to seize opportunities and certainly create value for the betterment of the society. I would like to invite you to our campus and explore further with our students on limitless opportunities that make the Department of Business Administration of Tezpur Central University a truly special institution.
Dr. Kakali Mahanta Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration
Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University, has been playing a very significant role in the growth of management education in the north-eastern part of India. It is truly a wonderful experience to teach the MBA batch. The class is very motivated, enthusiastic and highly diverse. They are good team players along with their excellent communication ability. With their KSAOs, which have been developed over the semesters, I am sure, will make recruitment an exciting experience.

The journey so far has been wonderful and it has been hallmarked
with a disciplined and systematic teaching pattern. The curriculum
followed here is broad-based, comprehensive and well- structured. The
main USP of our department is our faculty. All the teachers are
approachable and mentor us throughout our journey. A low student to
teacher ratio has helped, every faculty is aware of the strengths and
weaknesses of each student.
It is an amazing experience to be a part of this reputed and
disciplined university. The levels of zeal and enthusiasm have reached its
pinnacle in the campus of Tezpur University. The faculty helps us in every
way possible to imbibe the knowledge of business related courses into our
psyche. From the case discussions, presentations, corporate interactions,
business simulations to organizing sports & cultural events, our stay in this
university has helped in getting ourselves ready for you.
My stay at Tezpur University has been a wonderful one so far.
Apart from the regular academic activities, the wide range of extra-
curricular activities has served the best of my interests. Above all, the
guidance of my teachers and the company of my friends have enriched my
experience of studying in this department.
Tezpur University MBA programme has built in me a confident and
knowledge enriched personality. The rich faculty and the exposure we get
from interacting with personalities from the industry has equipped us with
skills that would prove vital when we make the transition from campus to
corporate.

PAST RECRUITERS
Life @ TUMBA
7:00 AM The cellphone’s alarm
clock awakens me to the reality that
my classes start off in a few hours. I
get dressed, gather my study
materials and hurry myself for
breakfast in the hostel’s mess.
8:30 AM I reach the cycle stand only
to notice my buddy’s cycle still lying
on the grass. I rush to his room and
splash some water on his face to bring
him to his senses and help him get
ready.
9:10 AM Just in time! We get our
attendance recorded. Sir asks for
submissions to the advertising
assignment. Scanning through the
bag I find my assignment and submit
it to the CR. Done!
11:20 AM Next up is our group for
the Retail Management presentation.
I am confident for I had done my
homework on the topic. Our group
nails it! Ma’am seems pleased with
our answers.
1:30 PM Lunch Break! Our Retail
Management group decides to
celebrate with a hearty meal at the KF
(Krishna Foods) outlet near the
department. I, for one, am not
complaining.
2:30 PM My Intellectual Property
Rights class starts! It is my CBCS
course. To our surprise, we are to
submit a critical analysis report as
well as appear for our class test the
next day!
4:30 PM Last class of the day is
finally over. My phone sets off a
reminder that our class has a friendly
football match with the Department
of Physics. I rush to my hostel and get
myself ready.
7:30 PM Exhausted to the bones but
nothing beats the feeling that we
won! Off to my room for some much
deserved rest. I realize there is no
socializing time as three assignments
are to be completed by tomorrow.
09:00 PM My roommate wakes me
up for dinner. After which, it’s time to
study for tomorrow’s test and finish
those nagging assignments. And just
then I recall I have a presentation too
for my Finance class tomorrow.
2:00 AM Phew! Took much more
time than I had initially estimated, but
yet finally completed everything on
my to-do list. Now, it’s time to have
some good sleep and wake up early to
get ready for the next day.

The TU-MBAs have been acting as brand
ambassadors not only of Tezpur University, but also of
the region. Leaving the University equipped with
expertise and professionalism, they carry in them an
inherent sense of honesty and belongingness with which
they add value to organization that they work for, in a
unique way. This is what the University has been getting
as employers' feedback over the years. I eagerly look
forward to seeing the present batch of TUMBAs creating
a niche for themselves as professionals with a
difference. I extend my best wishes to all of you.
