Since its establishment, UIET has come a long way and is geared towards fast growth. This is possible because of highly competitive students selected through an all India entrance test, research oriented faculty, infrastructure that is most suited towards learning and a clean and pollution free environment that Chandigarh as a modern city has to offer.

Students, by making full utilization of labs, library and computer facilities, broadband internet connection available for long hours, benefit themselves and develop their professional skills benefit themselves and develop their professional skills. Bachelors of Engineering:An eight-semester programme with students rigorously trained to be a valuable resource in the i n d u s t r y. S t u d e n t s w i t h exceedingly good AIEEE ranks take up admission in UIET. The curriculum is well structured, and includes industrial internships to give students an insight into the professional engineering.

Bachelors of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (5 years integrated programme):

Masters of Engineering:

It is a ten semester programme rendering B.E. in a basic field of engineering with MBA in a chosen specialization. A degree designed for students to give them the ability to develop their career to its fullest potential, at an accelerated pace. Aside from the engineering experience, the MBA d e g r e e s u p p l i e s v a l u e d propositions as Skills and Brand.

Th is i s a four semes ter programme, where graduate s t u d e n t s f r o m v a r i o u s engineering fields are admitted for a further specialization. The students experience a thorough professional training, powered by research work to develop a strong conceptual base.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at UIET, Panjab University, is a center of excellence with remarkable education standards, and provides holistic training to the students. Students at UIET get a unique experience of University life, access to state of the art lab facilities and infrastructure and the latest research tools. As a part of the curriculum, the students have to undergo trainings from time to time, which provides industry-academic interface to prepare them to face the challenges of the software sector.

A Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology degree program started in 2004. This degree is primarily based on computer subjects such as software Engineering, databases Management, and networkingThis course introduces students to the steps necessary to analyze a problem in information technology, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution, with a focus on how to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs. Students learn to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines .The department has a competent and dedicated faculty which encourages the students to take up challenging projects. It helps the students to establish and expand their principles of physics and material science for analysis, design, manufactur ing, and maintenance of mechanical systems, production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools.

Biotechnology:

Department of e lectronics and communication is one of the most active and sought after departments of UIET. Keeping in line with fast changing technology, the department has a well-designed, constantly reviewed syl labus to incorporate al l advancements in existing and emerging technologies. The state-of-the-art laboratories complement the high standards set by the competitive syllabus and nurture the inclination of the students towards research and development, besides giving them the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge that they need.

The program in Electrical & Electronics is a multi-disciplinary course that aims to train engineers in the field of Core Electrical Engineering along with Electronics Engineering with Computer Sciences. The focus of this department is on Power & Energy, Computer aided optimization and research & development in the field of sustainable sources of energy. The curriculum covers all the subjects ranging from electrical circuits & machines to neural networks and Database Management systems.

The emerging field of Biotechnology needs competitive manpower to carry out research and development for cutting edge technologies. UIET has taken upon itself the onerous task of venturing into the area of Biotechnology and meet the challenge it offers. The Biotechnology Department has all the latest equipments required by the students and a very experienced and well qualified faculty.

The subjects are well chosen and the curriculum is very prudently laid out. The subjects are a unique blend of core engineering, economics, English studies, cyber laws, etc, to help broaden the perspective of students. Conferences, presentations, seminars and guest lectures held regularly allow the students to strengthen their concepts and skills.

Since practical training is equal in importance to the theoret ical foundation, the course curriculum is so designed that the students get exposed to the live engineering environment. The students have to undergo minor(4-6 weeks) twice in their curriculum and major(6 months) vocational trainings in organizations.

Minor and Major Projects

Laboratory and Workshop Training

The schema and syllabi focus on engineering the things out rather than plain learning and implementation. These projects provide a vent to the innovation and a conformation to the concepts learned. The minor and the major projects are a compulsion in the academics.

IET has been actively involved in research and Udevelopment projects many

of which have been sponsored by na t iona l o rgan i za t ions and industries.

SPONSERED RESEARCH:Various departments of central government and some of the major industries have been sponsoring specific programs of research by funding projects undertaken by industry. Some of these are Development of Software Protection Tool for Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India, Modeling and Simulation of Nanoscale MOSFETs at Room Temperature (RT) and of Classical MOSFETs at Liquid Nitrogen Temperature (LNT) by Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India, Polycystin-1 and Nuclear Factor of Activated T Antigen (NFAT) interacting partners in Reno-Cardiac functioning in Autosomal Dominant Polycystice Kidney Disease by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) New Delhi, Govt. of India and Low Power DSP LabforAll India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of India. A number of industry

funded programs are also funded. LG Electronics have funded research for Department of mechanical engineering. Bharti group of industries has set up a Bharti Chair in Telecommunication & IT to boost research in Telecommunication. UIET has many more MOUs and interactions with the industry and a c a d e m i a l i k e I B M , S u n Microsystem, IMTECH etc.

All BE and ME students undergo a project under the guidance of a faculty members for completion of their degrees. Some of the prominent projects are BAJA SAE ASIA 2010: which aims to design a rugged off road vehicle capable of negotiating the rough tracks without damage. The vehicle has been ergonomically designed for driver comfort.Others include RESULT AND ATTENDANCE RETRIEVAL USING SMS AND IVRS ,RADIUS Server Implementation Based on AAA, VoIP Telephony and many others.

The whole campus has the access to internet through Wi-fi. This enables the students and faculty to work in an efficient manner.

The labs have been equipped with the latest equipment and software to enable the students to gain intensive insight into the practical

aspects and application of engineering by providing them a means to implement the fundamentals and concepts of classroom learning in practical.

The University houses around 5000 students in its well planned hostels. There is an exclusive hostel for UIET students. The hostels provide hygienic food to the students, under a diet plan designed by a professional dietician. The hostels also have facilities like laundry service, a tuck shop and a stationary shop inside the hostel premises. The hostels are very secure and very well maintained, with a 24 hour wi-fi service available to the students.

5. Facilities provided to UIET students on PU campus: Panjab University has one of the most sprawling and well laid out campuses in the country. The campus is spacious and has all the modern facilities. These include separate hostels for girls and boys, shopping complex and student centre, medical centre and banks and ATM's. The campus also has a dedicated Post office. Sports facilities include swimming pool, tennis courts, sports complex, play grounds, gymnasium hall, etc. The campus also houses one of the

biggest Libraries in the country .The University is located in sector 14 and Sector 25 in Chandigarh and there are distinct advantages of being located in the heart of country's most planned city. The 500 seat A i r condi t ioned Auditorium ensures that seminars a r e he l d i n an amb i en t atmosphere. UIET has very good hostel facilities and there are exclusive hostels only for UIET students. Round the clock internet facilities are provided to the students for research work and information retrieval.

Owing to the importance of the over-all development of the students, UIET takes special care in providing the best possible opportunities for a student to excel and develop in all spheres of life. Placement Procedure

Placements at UIET are organized and conducted by The Training andPlacement Committee with assistance from students and faculty.Arrangements for pre-placement talks and interaction sessions could bemade upon request. The recruitment process is as follows:

1. The company is encouraged to conduct pre-placement talks and anyshort-listing exams before the campus interview sessions wouldcommence. Slots for such activities would be, however, allotted basedon mutual convenience and availability.

2. Companies can register themselves on the online portal(www.tnpuiet.com) to create their accounts.

3. Companies can post their job notification through their account onthe online portal and they can also access the profile of students fromthe online portal.

4. The Placement cell allots the dates for the campus interviews.

5. By the end of the scheduled day of campus interview, the company isrequired to declare a list of final selected students on the same day.

6. At the end of selection process, the company is required to send offerletters to the Placement Officer who will then hand them over to theconcerned students.

Note:ŸThe above rules are subject to change as and when the Training and Placement Cell deems fit. ŸOn all matters not covered by the above rules, the Training and Placement Cell shall act on its discretion and its decision would be binding on all parties.

UIET has a full fledged Placement department headed by Dr Manu Sharma. The Placement committee is formed for each graduating batch and students of Biotech, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, IT and Mechanical Engineering represent their branch . The students are

select-ed in the Placement Committee through an Interview.
