SWASHBUCKLERS: The Dodgers tonight continue a 10-game
homestand (2-1), with the first of three against the NL Wild Card-
leading Pittsburgh Pirates. Los Angeles has won 17 of its last 22
games dating to Aug. 25, with its 17-5 mark the best in the Majors
in that time. The Dodgers lead the Giants by 7.5 games in the
National League West and maintain a 1.5-game lead over the New
York Mets for the No. 2 seed in the National League. Next week,
the Dodgers close out their long homestand with four games against
the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers are a season-high tying 23 games above .500
(83-60, Sept. 14).
THIS MAGIC MOMENT: On Wednesday, the Dodgers lowered
their magic number to 10 as they inched closer toward clinching their
third consecutive National League West crown. In franchise history,
the Dodgers have never made the postseason in three consecutive
seasons. In 2013, the Dodgers clinched on Sept. 19 and last year, the
club celebrated the division title on Sept. 24.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Dodgers have gone 49-22
(.690) at home this year with a 17-3-3 series record. The club is on
pace for its best home winning percentage in Los Angeles history and
its fifth-best home mark in franchise history:
Dodgers’ Best Home Winning Pct.
The Dodgers have won seven consecutive series overall, the
longest active streak in the Majors.
A SECOND CY?: Dodger right-hander Zack Greinke is looking for
his 18th victory tonight against just three losses and leads the Major
Leagues in ERA (1.61), winning percentage (.850), opponents’ batting
average (.190) and WHIP (0.85). Greinke has won four consecutive
starts dating to Aug. 27 and is 5-3 with a 5.37 ERA in nine career
starts against the Pirates. The 2015 NL All-Star last beat Pittsburgh on
April 5, 2013, his first game as a Dodger.
Greinke is putting up one of the most dominant seasons ever
in the live-ball era:

ranks sixth among active players.
NO SCORE FOR YOU: On Wednesday, Alex Wood and Kenley
Jansen combined for the Dodgers’ 13th home shutout of the season,
tied for their sixth-highest season total since moving to Los Angeles,
trailing just 1972 (19), 1963 (16), 1968 (16), 1965 (15) and 1985 (14).
Overall, the Dodgers lead the Major Leagues with 20
shutouts in 2015.
OUR TIME: Over the past couple years, the Dodgers have been the
best in baseball late in the season:
MLB, Best Record in September/October – Since 2014

league starts (11 of 13 total games), going 20-for-47 (.426) with a .526
on-base percentage, six doubles, a homer and eight RBI. Seager’s
torrid start is one of the best in L.A. Dodger history:

WOW, JUST WOW: Nine years ago tonight, Jeff Kent, J.D. Drew,
Russell Martin and Marlon Anderson hit back-to-back-to-back-to-
back home runs in the ninth inning against the Padres to erase a 9-5
deficit in a game the Dodgers would go on to win in 11 innings, 11-10,
on current Dodger broadcaster Nomar Garciaparra’s walk-off two-
run homer. The Dodgers tied a franchise record for home runs in an
inning (4) and tied a Dodger Stadium record for homers in a game (7).
The Dodgers continue to lead the National League with 172
home runs, three more than the Colorado Rockies. Los
Angeles has not led the National League in homers since
clocking 146 in 1983. The 172 home runs by the Dodgers is
the club’s most since hitting 203 in 2004.
LIKING LEFTIES: Since the All-Star break, the Dodgers are hitting
a National League best .282 against left-handed pitching, well ahead
of the second-place Marlins (.278).
Leading the charge against left-handers since the break have
been Kiké Hernandez (.485, 16-for-33), Howie Kendrick
(.421, 8-for-19), Justin Ruggiano (.391, 9-for-23), Corey
Seager (.350, 7-for-20), Adrian Gonzalez (.343, 23-for-67),
Yasmani Grandal (.333, 7-for-21), Justin Turner (.326,
15-for-46) and Jimmy Rollins (.319, 15-for-47).
CHAMPIONS PLAY HERE: The Single-A Rancho Cucamonga
Quakes came out of the gate strong in Game 1 of the California
League championship series, taking down San Jose (Giants), 12-3, at
LoanMart Field. Paul Hoenecke, Tyler Ogle and Jacob Scavuzzo all
homered in a 14-hit barrage. The Quakes will host Game 2 tonight at
7:05 p.m. and send right-hander Scott Barlow to the mound. Barlow,
the Dodgers’ sixth-round selection in 2011, was 8-3 with a 2.52 ERA
in 14 games (13 starts) for Rancho Cucamonga this season.
DOUBLING DOWN: Dodger outfielder Andre Ethier enters
tonight’s contest just one double shy of 300 for his career and would
become just the fourth Los Angeles Dodger to reach that mark, joining
Steve Garvey (333), Willie Davis (321) and Eric Karros (302).
