Kirk A. RandolphDirector

Dear Friends of the Ogle Center,

It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 2016–2017 season — our 20th season of offering quality, diverse, professional, enlightening, and entertaining arts and cultural experiences to our community! We are excited about all the things we have in store for you for the upcoming season. Within the pages of this brochure you’ll find descriptions of all the shows on our The Ogle Center Presents series and the variety of subscription package options to fit your schedule and your budget. If you are a renewing subscriber, place your order by July 29 to request your same seats as last season.

In addition to the performances on our signature The Ogle Center Presents series, we are offering a few special, à la carte add-on shows. These shows are not part of any series, but as a subscriber you can add these shows to your subscription order before they go on sale to the general public. You’ll even get a discount on the extremely popular Holiday Pops Spectacular that won’t be available to non-subscribers.

The benefits of being a subscriber have never been greater. In addition to advance notice of events and free ticket exchanges, subscribers can save up to 30% off non-subscription ticket prices!

Our audiences are an essential ingredient in continuing to build momentum at the Ogle Center. One of the changes you will notice this season is that Nashville Nights is no longer its own series. We are confident that

there is something that everyone will enjoy this season. If you are interested in the bluegrass sound, please consider attending Run Boy Run, winner of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest, or Altan, which has worked with a wide variety of musicians including Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, and many others.

As we look back on 20 years of entertainment at the Ogle Center, I hope that you will find performances that are familiar while others might be a new cultural excursion for you. We look forward to sharing the 20th season of events chock full of amazing performances and presentations with you! Please come and experience the Ogle Center and all we have to offer.

To celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial, Indiana Living Legend David Hochoy has honored Indiana’s Cole

Porter by creating a lively two-act contemporary dance piece to Porter’s most popular songs. Act One (Ole King Cole) sparkles with nostalgia, using original musical artists from the 1920s and 30s. Songs include

“Let’s Do It” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” Act Two (Cole Soul) uses contemporary recordings of Porter’s songs. The energy and costumes are current and gritty. Songs

include “Don’t Fence Me In” and “Miss Otis Regrets.”

“Collective vying to earn the superlatives that team through ‘You’re the Top’ brought out a wide range of

virtuosity in the dancers.”—Jay Harvey, The Indianapolis Star

Audiences just can’t get enough Hot Sardines! This New Orleans–style Jazz group played to a wildly enthusiastic

sold-out crowd when they last appeared at the Ogle Center. The Sardine sound is steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis

Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Fats Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. (Literally — the band includes a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section). They invoke the sounds of a near-century ago and stay resolutely in step with the current age.

Run Boy RunExisting comfortably in the tension between tradition

and the musical frontier, Tucson five-piece Run Boy Run blends bluegrass, folk and the old-timey American vernacular with touches of classical and turn-of-the-century details. Their unique sound is rooted in the

traditional music of the Appalachian South, continuing a sense of innovation in traditional American music put forth by bands such as Nickel Creek, Crooked Still, and The Wailin’ Jennys. Run Boy Run’s music is dynamic, orchestral, and brimming with beauty. Three strong female voices weave a tapestry of sound, and the award-winning fiddlers cut a path for a tightly formed rhythmic front. Every arrangement is — at its core — captivating. Garrison Keillor, host of A Prairie Home Companion, says “When I hear Run Boy Run, it all comes back to me, why I started doing that show back then. I hope they go on forever.”

No Irish traditional band in the last dozen years has had a wider impact on audiences and music lovers the world over than Altan.

With their award-winning recordings, ranging from the most sensitive and touching old Irish songs all the way to hard hitting reels and jigs, and with their heartwarming, dynamic live performances, Altan has moved audiences from Donegal to Tokyo to Seattle. Throughout, there has been the unwavering commitment of the band to bringing the beauty of traditional music, particularly that of the Donegal fiddlers and singers, to contemporary audiences in a way that brings out all its qualities and destroys none. Altan believes Irish traditional music is a modern music in every sense and its growing influence and popularity have proved them right.

The seeds of the band lie in the music and fun of gatherings and sessions in kitchens and pubs in Donegal where virtuoso music was heard in an atmosphere of respect and intimacy — it is here that the band’s heart lies still, whether they are performing on TV in Australia or jamming with Ricky Skaggs on the west coast of the United States.

“The hottest group in the Celtic realm these days”—The Boston Globe

“... the finest traditional Irish combo working today,

Altan seamlessly blend dazzling instrumental prowess and the gorgeously delicate vocals of

Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh”—Chicago Weekly

“... under no circumstances should they be missed”—Irish Echo, New York

What comes to mind when you think of a “Magician?” Is it a penguin-suited guy telling stale jokes, pretending to torture women in wooden boxes? This has been people’s stereotype of magicians. Perhaps a good refresh is needed. Prepare to feel very different than you expected to after a ‘Magic Show.’

As one of the stars of the hit Broadway show ‘The Illusionists,’ as well as appearances on Good Morning America, Ellen, America’s Got Talent, Rachel Ray, Disney Channel, ABC, VH1, and others, he is one of the most in demand illusionists working today.

This youthful magician and entertainer extraordinaire has grabbed the world’s heartstrings with a high-voltage performance that is equal parts magic show, pop concert, and stand-up comedy.
