Welcome to school in 2020! We are delighted to welcome all our students back to school for 2020. We kicked the start of Term One off with a Powhiri for new staff and students on Monday and they are already in full timetabled programs for the year. A big mihi to Whaea Tarns and Whaea Ripeka, Matua Abe, and Matua Simon for their participation and leadership during the Powhiri. A special shout out to Mr Ian Small who set up the Powhiri and who has been keeping all our tradies in line! Thank you Ian, for your dedication during the holidays. A huge welcome to staff and older students. Although staff have been at work for at least a week before school started getting ready for the students to return. We currently have 154 students enrolled and are still receiving inquiries I want to also especially welcome Miss Thompson, Ms McKee and Mrs Thomas to our staff and while we wait for Mr Kishore to arrive, Mrs Sue Draper is helping us out in Technology as a relief teacher. Thank you very much, Sue. I also want to congratulate students and staff on the great results we had in 2019 as we achieved and exceeded the academic targets we set for 2019! Great work. The next challenge would be to improve on them and it appears that our specific focus needs to be to get our boys reading and writing, especially in junior school up to Y10. We look forward to a great year where we can build on our successes and further improve the outcomes for students. Kia ora Johan van Deventer Principal/Tumuaki

A little bit about myself, I am the acting Sports Coordinator and teacher of PE and Health covering Mrs Gina Draper while she is away on maternity leave until the start of Term Three. I am a local, living up the Waitanguru on a sheep and beef farm with my husband Jim and our two little children, Maisy and Dallas. I went to school at Piopio Primary and College and actively participated in a range of sports. I am excited to be able to come back and teach in my hometown, which is where my heart is. I love sports and am really looking forward to working with students, whanau and the community. Please feel free to contact me with any sports queries.
