1. Using yahoo.com, find 10 pictures of something you like and copy and paste them into your canvas. You could do 10 purses, 10 cars, 10

comic book heroes…etc.

2. Each picture should have the background removed using the magic eraser tool. Use the eraser tool to remove stray marks. 3. Use the move tool to drag the picture to your new canvas. 4. To resize the pictures or move them on your canvas press Ctrl+T then use the resizing handles. 5. Press Ctrl-+ to zoom in the picture you are making, or press Ctrl - - to zoom out

Objective 1: the student will use the move tool, magic eraser tool, eraser tool, and the transform function in Adobe Photoshop. Objective 2: The student will copy and paste images from the Internet with one color backgrounds. Objective 3: The student will use Ctrl-+ and Ctrl – to zoom in and out of the image being created.

Open Photoshop Click on File then New and choose U.S. paper size and click OK.

Use the Paint Bucket to change the background color. Right-click on the Gradient Tool and click on the Paint Bucket Tool. On the right side you will see a tab that says Swatches, click on it and you will see many color boxes. Choose any color besides white.

Click on these arrows if you only have one column on your screen.

Open Internet Explorer and go to Yahoo.com, click on Images and type in the type of images you are using for your collage. For our example we are looking for Disney characters. You should choose an image that has only one background color. Look at the arrows to see what I am talking about.

Make sure you are using the largest image you can find. Click on the thumbnail to see the largest image. Click on View Image.

When you have the largest picture you can find the copy the picture by right-clicking and choosing Copy.

Go back to Photoshop and click on Edit, then Paste or press Ctrl+V to see your image pop up on your screen. You CANNOT right-click in the Photoshop screen and choose Paste.

Remove the background of your image by clicking on the background with the Magic Eraser.

If you have any stray marks, lettering, or colors use the Eraser Tool to remove them. Just drag over the areas you want to erase. Make sure the background is removed and any stray marks are erased before you go on the next step.

Need to make the image smaller or larger? Then on your keyboard, press Ctrl-T to see the sizing handles appear. We call this transforming in Photoshop. Make sure you press Enter after you are finished transforming the image.

Now use the move tool to drag the image around. Go ahead and save your file on your flash drive. Click on File, then Save. Name your file yourlastname_collage.psd. Click on Save.

Repeat all the steps so you have a total of 10 images in your collage.

When you have all 10 images finished save your file one last time as a .PSD File. Now click on File, then Save as… The dialog box will open. In file format choose JPEG and press save. What you just did is make a copy of your file but it’s smaller and all the layers are gone.

Rubric: 4 – Excellent job of removing 10 backgrounds and placing in new canvas. 3 – Good job, managed to finish 8 images for collage. 2 – Acceptable job, managed to finish 5 or more images, some may have stray marks, portions not fully erased. 1 – Less than 5 images, backgrounds not removed as instructed in class.
