There are churches which will not allow avisiting missionary to speak unless a church recommendation can be shown. Since it is impossible for any one person to know all Christians in the world, this recommendation by a responsible New Testament church is a vital help in persuading others of your worthiness and the valueof your mission. Mission Services stands ready to help you inform HORIZONS readers aboutyour church recommendations. Since the church is sending you to the mission field (Acts 13:1-3)and will help provide the necessary needs on the field, naturally the church should share thecredit in your missionary ministry. One of the ways that the church can do this is to share theirconviction regarding your missionary ministry with others. Certainly, their words will helpconvince others regarding the worthiness of your work. Please help MISSION SERVICES tospread your news through HORIZONS, Packets and Slide library by sending your church recommendations as soon as possible. Thanks. Send what you have now, and the others later.

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ:
It was but a short time ago that summer had begun. But as v;e glance
at the calendar, we realize that it is rapidly coning to a close. It
has brought marywonderful joys, as well as some saddnsss to our hearts.
Of these many blessings we woiild lijie to share a few of them vdth you.
The majority of the summer has been spent in Christian Service
Camps in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Four weeks were spent in
camp at Lake James in Angola, Indianas two weeks at Mahoning Christ-^
ian Service Camp in Rushville, Indiana; one week at MacGcraery Christ
ian Service Camp near Chesterfield, Illinois; one at Cedar Lake
Christian Service Camp at-Cedar Lake, Indiana. We finished our camp
schedule for the summer at Hichiana Christian Service Camp near Buchan
an, Michigan. These wore a great challenge to us. Our greatest thrill
came when v^e saw young people take their stand for Jesus Christ.
Since our last newsletter, some changes have taken place. The first
one of great importance is our sailing date. Due to the date of the
National Missionary Convention for September 24 thru 27, and, the fact
we are scheduled to speak on the program, we felt it necessary to
change it. Secondly, we still need ^054.00 of our needed pledged sup
port. V/e now have $146,00 of our needed pledges. Please remember us
in your prayers at all times, as it is for the Lord and His Gospel,
that we go to Germany to bring to these people a peace within, brought
only through the Gospel.
Since the change in the time of departure, an opening for any church
who desires to know of our plans and goals in Germany is loft in the
month of October for three consocutive weeks. Thus, if you desire one
of the openings, please let us hear from you soon. T/rlte Mr, &Mrs.
Alva Phillips, H. R. 4, Box 335) Coldwater, Mich.
The Lord v;illing, by next month we can tell you- for sure who our for
warding agent will be, and will pass this on to you. Until then, may

the Lord richly .blsas and guide you always in His service.

Sept., 1963Dear fellow-servants in Christ,
"I thank my God always, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy lovo, and of the fa^'th vfhich thou hast towardthe Lord Jesus, and toward ail the saints" (Philemon vv. 4, 5)and especially to*-^ard us.
The Lord has truly blessed u3 through XQB? His people. We feel as
did Paul. Our praj^ers go :?ith you in thanksgiving for you. For if it
were not for ynu, the Lord*s Children, we could not and never would be
able to take the message of Christ, along with His great love, to the
German speaking' people of the globe.
We truly rejoice in the Lord, for our support is slowly, but stead
ily increasing. We nov7 have $211.00 of our needed monthly pledges.
There is a greater demand novj for the $289.00. V7e must have this be
fore the 15th, of Oct. Hd Fausz wrote to us, advising us to raise more
than $500.00 a month. For he says it will be very difficult for us to
live on that low income. In Germany, the food averages 30^ to 40^ high
er than here. Gasoline averages between $.52 and $1,00 a gallon; motor
oil is just about as expensive; house rent (actually a small ap't.) at
least $100,00 a month. So please remember us in your prayers.
Very soon (in 1? days) we'll be sailing to Germany. But before we
go, Ed Fausz suggested that we obtain all of the cotton material poss
ible, because of the high prices in Germany. This will be a big sav
ings, as I do quite a bit of sewing. Also, wa need some dippers or
pans, plus cake pans. A claw iiammer was also suggested by bro. Fausz,
So, please remember these minor needs. Our greatest need of all is
PRAYER i Please pray for us always. May the Lord richly bless
you always. Yours in Christ,Alvin & Janice Phillips
P # S, -
We deeply appreciate the many blessings because of you, throughthe Lord, being sent our way. We are still desiring speaking engagements for Oct., mid-week or week-end appointments. May your PRAYERSand encouragement go with us always,

October, 19^3Dear Fellow-servants Ixi Christs
October 25th. is rapidly approaching I -In fact, it is only a few
days away. This means there are many needs to be met, that only you,
the Lord's co-workers, can help us meet. There are many small details
to take care of and make sure they are covered. Whewl These next fewdaysare completely packed vdth tilings that must be done in order for us to
sail—a letter guaranteeing our support from Churches of Christ in
America; pictures must be taken; last minute packing must be finish-
ed;and a quick trip to pier 40, on October 24th. mil help to complete
the requirements for sailing on the ship "Rotterdam" on Friday, 25th,
at 12:00 noon. V/e truly request your faithful prayers and support.
Only through you opening the door for us to go to Germany, can the
German children ever come to know Christ as you do. They too are de
pending on you to bring them Christ.
As we Twrite thi.s letter, it is truly filled vdth mixed emotions.
So many of you have showered us vdth love offerings and gifts of need
ed articles. You have helped us to lift our burden, step by step. It
is because of you, through such thoughtful acts, that the love of
Christ is maid available to many lost souls. You have truly been a
blessing to us, as well as to the German people. May our wonderful
Lord richly repay you one-huidred fold.
Today our spirits were further lifted, as vre read a letter from
brother Ed Fausz. He told of the great anticipation engulfed in our
coming. He also told of the great demandfor workers to reap the harv
est of souls. We, too, v/ould like for you to take a moment to thank
the Lord for His many blessings shov^ered upon you. Then analyse how
you have u.sed them to win souls. Have you done your very best for our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? If you desire to serve Him even more
fully than ever before, start today by praying for us, that we may
serve our Lord to the fullest through your support in prayers and
gifts. May your cup continue from thence to always overflow with His
blessings.
If you have any questions or gifts, please send, to ouing agentss Mr. &Mrs. Victor w^lutz, minister ,110^"^ ■ •
