Marty Little - Commodore

Greetings PYC friends,

I hope everyone had a very Merry

Christmas and that Santa did not bring you a

lump of coal.

I cannot give enough thanks to everyone who

volunteered and participated in this year’s

Lighted Boat Parade. Whether you entered a

boat in the Parade or performed a duty in the

Club, all of you made it a great success. The

Boats looked spectacular. This may have been

the largest participation of Boats in the Parade

ever. We have plenty more events coming up,

including the New Year’s eve Party at the

Club December 31st and a Cruise out to San

Rafael the weekend of January 11-13th.

There will also be a Delta Cruise Meeting at

the Club on January 19th. This will be the

time to voice your desire, as to where you

would like to visit during the Cruise.

On a somber note, please make every effort

to attend the General Meeting on January

4th, as we will have a ringing of the 8-Bells

for our beloved Walter Wilson.

Marty Little, Commodore

Ahoy!

What a great holiday! The lighted boat parade was fantastic! And many thanks to Mary McDermott, Larry Kubo and John Wolthausen for helping with the bar on much larger than usual bar nights!! With the stormy weather, the club has been quieter than usual, but do stop by when you can and enjoy the warm fire and good friends. The bar is doing great and is fully stocked. So now that we’re moving into a great new year, let’s all make PYC the place to be. Gerry

Hello fellow boaters and friends,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a Mer-ry Christmas.

As I take a look out the window, taking a break from cookie making, it is pouring rain. Good thing Don Roberts caulked the leak at the door threshold to the upper deck. The club is in great shape, as usual. The building committee is working on the final drawings for the Coop. The galley will receive some attention next year as well.

If you want to have some input, please be sure to come to the building committee meet-ing on Jan.15th at the club.

The weather held off for the lighted boat pa-rade this year and it was amazing. Not only the number of boats and spectators ashore, but the effort that went into each and every decorated boat. It was breathtaking to see at the dock. Everyone that participated should be applauded. What fun for the last cruise in of the year.

Walter Wilson

August 5, 1921—December 2, 2012

8 Bell Ceremony will be performed

before the general meeting on Jan. 4th in

honor of Walter.

Walter was born in San Francisco in 1921. He had a brother and 2 sisters. His Mother came from Vienna,

Austria and his father was from San Francisco. Walter remembered seeing the Golden Gate Bridge being

built and opening day. He lived in the Sunset District when he was growing up.

Walter was a WWII veteran with the Coast Guard. He was stationed in San Francisco at Treasure Island

area. The two ships he was assigned to were the Amethyst and Shoshone. They were in the Bering sea

patrol and up and down the Coast of California from San Diego to San Francisco. During the war they went

to sea where they picked up downed pilots in the Pacific. Walter was the chief engineer during his military

career. He is going to have a burial at sea with the Coast Guard later on in 2013.

After the war he went to work for Cahill, a contractor who built a lot of high rise buildings in San

Francisco. He learned from that experience and became a General Contractor himself. He built single

family homes in the Santa Clara County. Before he retired he developed many large apartment complexes

in the same area.

Walter had a love of boats from his early youth. He owned 13 powerboats in total. His favorite was his last,

Grand Slam, a 42' Grand Banks that he had built in Hong Kong. He took her up and down the West Coast

and ventured for 3 months every year into the inland passage in Alaska. Walter loved to fish and caught

many Marlin and other large fish. Walter was a founding member of the Cruiser Haven Yacht Club in the

Stockton Delta area. He was also a long time member of the Fidalgo Yacht Club in Burlington,

Washington. Walter and Judith became members of the Petaluma Yacht Club in 2009. He enjoyed the

club very much and loved sharing his boating experiences with the members. It gave him a connection to

boating that he always loved. Walter & Judith shared a love of the water. They cruised to many places in

the Mediterranean and they took a cruise to Alaska with their PYC sponsors, Don & Gloria Roberts. They

were guests on many of the other member's boats during Opening Day on the River and Lighted Boat

Parade. Walter's felt at home with PYC and became a Proprietary Member in 2012. His spirit will live in

our hearts for years to come.
