I. Introduction
TAM Splash Guard System were develop forexcellent corrosion of :
- Steel and Concrete Piling- Pipes- Valves- Flanges- Other steel structure
That immerse in sea water, in the splash zone area and buried in the soil.
Element of a corrosion cell must be present are :- Anode- Cathode- Metallic connection- Electrolyte (water or soil)
TAM Splash Guard Systems are design to stopping corrosion by creates a solidbarrier between electrolyte (sea water or soil) and the steel surface by PetrolatumTape.
Petrolatum Tape is defined as “a purified mixture of semisolid hydrocarbonsobtained from petroleum, occurring as an unctuous mass.” Petrolatum is a soft,viscous, moisturizing material, which adheres comparatively well to rusty orslightly-moist steel. This material has some moisture-displacing capabilities andgenerally only requires cleaning by hand or power-tool cleaning.
Petrolatum tape is composed of synthetic fabric, filled with a petrolatumcompound, inert fillers and special anti-corrosion agents.

VI.1 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE HDPE JACKETING TYPE GIRDER
A. Installation Detail HDPE Jacket Type Girder
1. Scrap steel surface by hand tools (SSPC – SP2)
2. Clean steel surface by power tools (SSPC – SP3)
3. - Priming thinly with Paste to steel surface for above water
- Priming thinly with Paste direct to the tape for under water
4. Wrap over primer utilizing the wrapping tape (Petrolatum Tape)

B. Procedure HDPE Jacketing Type Girder
B.1 Surface Preparation
Preparatian
Co-ordinate with owner / main contractor site staff and others related parties.
Prepared applicator, tools/equipment, and material to work at site. Consist of :
- Drum Pontoon should be ready available
- Tools, dive equipment, Safety equipment, and Material to be installed should be
ready & available
Surface preparation Application
Cleaning method should be match with the product mentioned in the manufacturer
coating specification for the involved project.
Cleaning equipment used should be inline to the recommendation of the manufacture
coating specification.

B.2 Primer Paste
After Surface preparation completed and inspected immedeately apply Primer Paste. It
is used in the initial treatment of metal surfaces prior to wrapping. Primer Paste displaces
moistore, passivates surface oxides, fills surface imperfaections and ensures adhesion
between Petrolatum Wrapping Tape and the substrate.
For underwater application, Primer Paste can be applied direct to the Petrolatum Tape at
above water before underwater application.
Primer Paste is applied to the prepared steel by gloved hand. Primer Paste should be
applied in a circular motion, obtaining a thin even film that fills all cavities.

Primer Paste Application
After proper surface preparation sharp edges must be cut away and make sure pipe
surface is smooth.
Above WaterApply paste by hand (glove), brush in circular motion, obtaining a thin and even films
(0,5 kg/m2).
Under WaterApply paste by hand (glove) direct on the tape surface. Obtaining a thin and even film
on the tape surface (0,5 kg/m2).

B.3 Petrolatum Wrapping Tape
For corrosion protection, sealing and waterproofing of atmospheric and buried or
submerged metal surfaces. The high degree of conformability of Petrolatum Wrapping
Tape allows for application over irregular surface profiles. Petrolatum Wrapping Tape is
made from stitch-bonded synthetic fabric that is fully saturated and coated with a neutral
petrolatum compound and blended with inert fillers and corrosion inhibitors.

Prepared applicator, tools/equipment, and material to work at site. Consist of :

ready & available
Petrolatum Wrapping Tape Application
Determine distance from underside of the jetty deck, to bottom of the area to be
protected
Measuring of the length of pile to be protected, length refer to data from owner.
Remove the the thin plastics that cover the wrapping tape.
Tape shall be applied spirally from top to the bottom of pile until above of pipe
protected.
Place the beginning of the roll against the pile.
Starting from the top with 2 layers =30% – 50% overlap
Make (one) full circumferential wrap around the pile, rub down to ensure a good bond
Continue to wrap around the pile following spiral path with a minimum overlapping of
1 inch.
During wrapping application, make sure proper tension in applied and minimum
wrinkles are present.
- Outflow of the water and air bubles trapped from inside the tape.
- Avoid rinkles and smooth performance
- Seal overlapping the tape.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Under Water Application
Once, the wrapping get in to under water, application will be done by qualified diver
and proper dive equipment (regulator, surface compressed air etc)
Continue to wrap as describe above, until the end of the length of the pile to be
protected is reached.
The wrap is completed at the bottom, with another double turn (100% overlap), to
ensure a double thickness of the tape

B. 4 HDPE Outer Cover
The HDPE Outer Cover is a high quality formulation of UVR stabilized polyethylene. It
contains approximately 97,5% polymer and 2,5% carbon black, anti-oxidants and heat
stabilizers. The HDPE Outer Cover is designed specifically for exposed conditions. It
contains no additives, or fillers, which can leach out and cause deterioration over time.
Each sheet is fabricated to the required size of the structure to be protected. HDPE Sheet
to be used is 2.0 mm thickness.

HDPE Outer Cover Application
The cover have been pulled tightly around the wrapped pile and there are no loose
areas where the cover is not touching the wrapped pile
Squeeze HDPE Girder on the Outer Cover with the other side of HDPE Girder .
Install the Girder clamp with two bolts at the top and bottom position
Press 2 HDPE Girder using the hydraulic hand pump / jack
Pair the SS 316 Nut Bolt in HDPE Girder and tightened using a wrench .
