Helping your anxious child. By Dr David Lewis. Is anxiety making your child’s life a misery – causing prob-lems at school, difficulties in making friends or facing new experiences or even affecting their physical health? Anxiety is a curse that can cast a shadow over your child’s life. But there is a solution. Chronic anxiety is a serious problem which may be general, or a specific anxiety about taking ex-ams or doing sums, or a phobia about anything from trains or spiders to eating in public or going to the toilet. It can be treated successfully and David Lewis offers practical and effective advice to parents of anxious children. By applying this straightforward advice and by being positive, patient and persistent, you can banish anxiety and transform your child into a happy, confident person. Lego Thanks to those families who have sent in any unwanted lego. We also thank the P&F who have donated money to purchase lego and other resources to support our Technolo-gy curriculum.

nd March. All parents

and grandparents will be invited to attend to see what the students have been learning. ICAS Competitions (Year 3 -6)

Entry form and money is due on Friday 24th

March.

News from Year 5S We have had a very busy start to the year in Grade 5! The students now have extra responsibilities which include put-ting up and taking down the flags each day as well as setting up the checkers, chess and four in a row games for students to use at lunch time. They are already showing their leader-ship skills by doing these jobs each day without question, well done 5S! Interschool sport has started for the year. It has been great to see them try their hardest at sports they haven’t played before. Their sportsmanship has been on show each week. Last week we spent Shrove Tuesday with our buddy class Prep Blue. The students loved spending time with their new buddies in Prep and have been continually asking when we are going back. In class we are learning about so many interesting things. In science we are focusing on ‘Light’ and how it works. We have been exploring how light travels by using hands on ex-periments which the students are all enjoying. History has been a great chance for students to learn more about the colonisation of Australia. At the moment we are designing our own ‘google map’ which shows the location of settlements as well as some information about them. Geography has been very skills based this term. We have been learning mapping principles and skills to help us map. Europe and North America have been our focus. The stu-dents have created maps labelling all countries within these continents. Just reminders if you haven’t booked a parent teacher meet-

ing please do. I would love to have a chat to all parents

about the great things we are doing within the classroom.
