FROM THE DESK OF FR. LUKE... DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PADRE LUKE...

The disciples, Christ’s great followers, were not

happy with Jesus’ explanation that the bread of life is His

body and blood. The people are shocked by His plain and

blunt explanation of God’s love being revealed in the Eucha-

rist we receive; how do we respond to this divine truth?

Jesus is very clear “that no one can come to me unless it is

granted him by my Father.” How can we convince the Fa-

ther to grant us the grace to receive Jesus in the Eucharist

with good faith? Only the Apostles, out of those many dis-

ciples, accepted that truth even though they did not under-

stand. They heard the “hard” words of Jesus and submitted

themselves to it, except the one who later betrays Christ.

The letter of Paul to the Ephesians helps us to understand

what submitting ourselves to Christ is all about, we are to

“be subordinate to one another out of reverence” for Him.

So often, engaged couples, and married couples, construe

the second reading this Sunday as a tool to be angry about

the inequalities which develop in human marriage and levy

control over each other by either using the passages for self

purpose or in opposition to those passages for self purpose.

Either approach is a perversion of the gospel message. To

be subordinate to another person is to truly love with trust to

the other. Jesus, the bridegroom of the Church, made him-

self subordinate to us by being born of flesh, through Mary,

and embracing the torture of the cross. He entrusted himself

to the human nurture of the Blessed Mother and the cruelty

of human sin: the Blessed mother representing the holy

strength of human bone and the cruelty representing the

weakness of human flesh. To love with such glorious and

divine passion is to marry ourselves to Christ in the Eucha-

rist and being “subordinate” to our brothers and sisters born

in baptism. Cast off your preconceptions and embrace the

Word of God recognizing that Jesus became “bone of [our]

bone and flesh of [our] flesh” and showed us how to be Holy

in divine living.

Los discípulos, los grandes seguidores de Cristo, no

estaban contentos con la explicación de Jesús de que el pan

de vida es Su cuerpo y Su sangre. La gente está sorprendida

por su explicación directa del amor de Dios que se revela en

la Eucaristía que recibimos; ¿Cómo respondemos a esta

verdad divina? Jesús es muy claro "que nadie puede venir a

mí a menos que mi Padre lo conceda". ¿Cómo podemos

convencer al Padre de concedernos la gracia de recibir a

Jesús en la Eucaristía con buena fe? Solo los Apóstoles, de

todos esos discípulos, aceptaron esa verdad a pesar de que no

entendieron. Escucharon las palabras "duras" de Jesús y se

sometieron a ella, solamente, Judas, el que más tarde traicionó

a Cristo. La carta de Pablo a los Efesios nos ayuda a entender

de qué se trata someternos a Cristo, debemos "ser subordinados

el uno al otro por reverencia" para Él. Muchas veces, las

parejas comprometidas y las parejas casadas, interpretan la

segunda lectura de este domingo como una herramienta para

enojarse por las desigualdades que se desarrollan en el matri-

monio humano y controlar el uno al otro al usar los pasajes

para el propósito propio o en oposición a esos pasajes para su

propio propósito. Cualquiera de los enfoques es una perver-

sión del mensaje del evangelio. Estar subordinado a otra

persona es amar verdaderamente con confianza al otro. Jesús,

el novio de la Iglesia, se hizo subordinarse a nosotros al

nacer de la carne, a través de María y abrazar la tortura de la

cruz. Se confió a la nutrición humana de la Santísima Madre

y la crueldad del pecado humano: la Madre Santísima repre-

sentando la fuerza sagrada de los huesos humanos y la crueldad

que representa la debilidad de la carne humana. Amar con

una pasión tan gloriosa y divina es casarnos con Cristo en la

Eucaristía y estar "subordinados" a nuestros hermanos y hermanas

nacidos en el bautismo. Deje sus ideas preconcebidas y abrace

la Palabra de Dios reconociendo que Jesús se convirtió en

"hueso de [nuestros] huesos y carne de [nuestra] carne" y nos

mostró cómo ser santos en la vida divina.

Fall Formation (CCD & Confirmation) begins in September.

Our goal is to eventually have trained catechists and aids in

every grade level. We need your help to meet this goal. If

you are interested in helping as a teacher or an aid, call

Pat Schwerdtfeger in the Parish Office. We hope to add

Kindergarten this year. As always if we have the volunteers

we can offer the program.

FOOD HANDLERS COURSE

Food Handlers course in English will be offered

on Tuesday, August 31st at 9:00 AM in the

Parish Hall. If you, your ministry or anyone else

who plans on cooking or preparing food in our

Hall kitchen, you must attend this course in

order to use the kitchen or provide food to our parishioners.

Center

Hours: 9.5+ hours per week

Status: Non-Exempt

Supervised by: Catechetical Program Coordinator

Flexible work hours, including mostly afternoons/evenings

and weekends.

hours as needed (as we move beyond pandemic

restrictions) and for special events. The position
