Praxis3 is a unique architectural design fi rm established in 1997 with the mission of intersecting design excellence with pragmatic problem-solving, as applied to some of the most challenging sites and building programs. As sophisticated design projects have demanded a greater range of expertise than ever before, Praxis3 has brought together in collaboration a team of skilled professionals from the disciplines of architec-ture, planning, and design. Our singular combination of individual talents and extensive knowledge base, developed through years of practice, allows us to offer our clients a comprehensive approach to the building process; one that enables us not only to assess a wider range of building options, but to do so with greater speed and accuracy. As responsible professionals we approach each of our projects as its own unique set of issues, doing extensive research on each of them, asking hard questions and listening carefully. Then we respond with the sort of creative thinking which permits us to assess each project’s unique design possibili-ties.
Our explorations and built projects have led to numerous recognitions, including the commission among only 10 architects nationwide to speculate upon the “House for the Next Millennium”, presented in a major exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. Our recent mixed-use housing commissions for clients including the Atlanta Housing Authority, Trammell Crow Residential, and Integral Properties, are rec-ognized as the leading edge in Atlanta’s inner-city revival along Memorial Drive and historic Auburn Avenue.
The Phone Factory Lofts, in collaboration with Brock/Green, received the Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence for its adaptive re-use of a historic commercial building. The 1995 community revi-talization project for the Mechanicsville community was a front page story in the Atlanta Constitution. In that same year, the Corporation for Olympic Development in Atlanta (CODA) awarded Romm, Pearsall, and Dimitropoulos fi rst place in a nationwide design competition resulting in the construction of the Memory Theater Project at Heritage Park in the Summerhill neighborhood. In the Automotive Studio, The Nalley Lexus Dealership of Atlanta won fi rst place at the Institute of Store Planners 2004 Store Design Awards and an Award of Excellence from the American Concrete Institute.
The partners and associates have also designed advanced technology facilities, among them, the computer center for Coca-Cola in Atlanta, and, in collaboration with Diller + Scofi dio, New York, was commissioned by Turner Broadcasting to design two large scale urban media “icons” to give a landmark identity to the CNN
Center in Atlanta.

praxis3 philosophy
1: theory to practice2: diversity of practice3: collaborative practice
Praxis, literally, theory into action, describes the fi rst of three basic philosophical tenets of praxis3. The fi rm aims to test the possibilities of emerging design theories and ideals as applied to the real world practice of development and construction. Praxis3 pursues design problems that may involve issues of social, political, or cultural signifi cance, as often intersected with advanced technical expertise. The fi rm’s mixed-use projects are a good example of complex structures with tight budgets and timetables accomplished with an eye to providing excellent design to a variety of clients and end-users of many income levels. Praxis also seeks a variety and diversity of design experience. Automotive, mixed-use, cultural and institutional building design, plus web and print design are all part of a complete design continuum at the fi rm. Praxis3 believes that a broad range of design can be interrelated, and that work in several fi elds strengthens abilities in all, providing for a diversity of perspective in practice not usually open to single discipline or overly specialized fi rms.
Finally, the fi rm actively seeks a collaborative model for practice. Praxis encourages a culture of design collaboration both within the offi ce and between various outside people and fi rms. Singular project teams unique to each assignment bring a rich culture of varied expertise. Ongoing active collaborations continue with architects Frederick Pearsall, Harris Dimitropoulos, and J.W. Robinson & Associates. Past collaborations have included signifi cant work with New York based Diller + Scofi dio and Amy Landes-burg, and workshops with media theorists Robert Cheatham and Gregory Ulmer of the University of Florida. Internal project design collaborations are open to a range of design directions and thought. In short, praxis seeks the best ideas from a group of varied and strong designers without forsaking the pos-sibility of individual inspiration or vision on any particular project.

Designer:praxis3
Client:modHouse
modHouse is a company that sells modern house plans and garage plans online. Founder
and architect Jonathan Elmore’s vision was to assemble a design collaborative that could
offer a wide variety of designs and at the same time showcase individual designers. Praxis3
created a flash lead in to the site that introduced the logo and highlighted the distinctiveness
of modern homes, a quality that appeals to the modHouse audience. We customized an
e-commerce engine and incorporated PDF spec sheets of each plan – convenient for
downloading, emailing and printing.

This proposal for the design of the American Red Cross Atlanta’s web site is intended
to encourage blood donation, particularly among minority donors and to educate the
public at large about blood donation. Custom illustrations were created for icons that
lead to information pages about who can give, find a blood drive and 5 easy steps to giving
blood. We wanted to highlight the importance of blood donation and make it easy
for potential donors to find information about where to give blood. The site is easy to
navigate and included a powerful back-end that led to dynamically-generated maps of
current blood drive locations.

Jared Paul represents interior design product manufacturers. Praxis3 created JPI’s online
presence. The primary aim was to showcase the product lines that Jared represents as well
as provide interior designers with links for additional information. We created a Flash-based
opening sequence for the site as well as slide shows for each product line. Does the intro
remind you of anything? Dynasty, perhaps? Jared is a faithful fan.
