From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that our mum’s were well looked after on Mother’s Day
and we hope that you were able to enjoy our Mother’s Day
Breakfast last week. I anticipate that you also received your
Mother’s Day gifts in one piece which were purchased from our
Mother’s Day Stall. I would like to thank our P&C President Ms Lisa Harvey and her
helpers for making these lovely gifts available.
Last week, NAPLAN was held for Years 3 and Years 5 students. I was very proud of our
students and their application in the tests. I also want to acknowledge and congratulate
them for their efforts. Well done to you all. I know you all did your best!
This week, under the Department’s Capital Work’s program, we have installed new
carpet in 5 classrooms. We are committed to ensuring wherever possible that students
are learning in clean and well-kept classrooms. It was lovely to watch students walk for
the first time on their new classroom carpet! Some may have even made their own
version of ‘snow angels - carpet angels!’
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all boys and girls and families that
we have high expectations of student behaviour at school. Our three school rules
clearly indicate how ‘Excellence’ looks at Ringrose, namely:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be a Good Learner.
The Department of Education also makes very clear what their expectation of students
conduct at school must be as outlined in the Behaviour Code for all students. Attached
to this newsletter, is a copy of the Behaviour Code for all Students. The link below will
also take you to this page on the Department’s intranet site:
http://www.dec.nsw.gov.au/about-the-department/our-reforms/supported-students-
successful-students/behaviour-code-for-students
At Ringrose our Student Management Policy is aligned to Department Policies and Pro-
cedures, and is implemented consistently right across the school. A copy of this can be
picked up from the office or you can find it on our school website page.
Lastly, as we approach these colder months, we expect all students to be wearing their correct uniform every day. Black shoes
are part of our school uniform whether they are the traditional leather style or black sneaker style. Students should only be
wearing their coloured sneakers on Sports Days. For Years 3-6, this is Friday only. On all other days, the expectation is that
students wear their black shoes.
I appreciate your anticipated support of keeping Ringrose Public School a Great Place to Be!
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead

Roy Ringrose has visited 5/6E this week!
It has been a very exciting start to the Term for 5/6E.
At the beginning, we spent a lot of our time reflecting on
ANZAC Day and what it means to us as Australians around
this time. We researched and investigated the
Tower of London Poppy Sculptures that was set up
for the 100 year Anniversary. We looked at the
artist's motive and the method in which it was
created. We couldn't believe that the significance
behind each poppy on that sculpture represented a
soldier who lost their life in World War 1. We had
decided to imitate the artwork with our own. We
looked at some famous Australian Landmarks such
as Ayers Rock, Sydney Opera House and many more
and created the weeping poppies. Come and have a
look at the foyer if you get a chance.
Another big event that I was able to witness was the
preparation for NAPLAN for the Year 5 students. This
preparation is different to when they were in Year 3
as the students seem to have a better understanding
of how to take the test. However, I was able to
witness the discussions on how to approach
different questions. I was thrilled to see the amount of positive talk and how
they helped each other to tackle the difficult questions.
During the week of NAPLAN, I witnessed the range of emotions from
excitement and nervousness. I was extremely impressed to see how hard
each and every student tried. No matter how difficult the questions were, the
students were very resilient!
We are very much looking forward to what is to come for the rest of the
Term in 5/6E!

Healthy Harold’s tips for
keeping kids safe near the road!
Making young children aware of road safety is essential
for keeping them safe in today’s world. National Walk
Safely to School Day (Friday, 19 May) is an annual event
encouraging all Primary School children to walk and
commute safely to school. When we talk about road
safety a few things probably come to mind immediately –
crossing at pedestrian crossings, looking left and right
before you cross, wearing a helmet when riding a bike –
but there are a lot of other things we can talk to our kids about. For a list of road
safety tips for pre-school and primary school children, visit Life Education’s online
parent resources: http://www.lifeeducation.org.au/parents/safety

Walk Safely to School Day
Friday 19 May, 2017
National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is on Friday 19 May. Now in its 18th year, it
is a campaign and annual event when all primary school children, parents and carers
will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a community event
seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
The objectives of Walk Safely To School Day are:
To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
