WELCOME LETTER

The International Indigenous Pre-Conference on HIV & AIDS is a pre-conference to the International AIDS conference to be held in Australia for the first time ever in 2014. The Pre-Conference is an IIWGHA (International Indigenous Working Group on HIV&AIDS) event, co-hosted by an Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organising Committee.

The Indigenous Pre-Conference has been accepted as an independent affiliated event of IAC 2014. The Pre-Conference is being funded and supported by the NSW Ministry of Health, The Australian Government Department of Health and the Government of Canada.

IIWGHA has committed to hosting an international gathering of Indigenous peoples during the activities of the International AIDS Conference every two years. This centralized event allows for a central meeting time and location, and helps to facilitate increased visibility of the collective action and needs of Indigenous peoples and those organizations working with Indigenous peoples and HIV.

The pre-conference will be relevant to people working in the Indigenous Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses, Alcohol and other drugs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health more generally-we welcome everyone to attend.

Regards James Ward and Michael Costello-Czok, co-convenors of the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organising Committee (AATSIOC) on behalf of all members of AATSIOC

AATSIOC would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters, presenters and participants who are working to bring this Conference together.
