Why is Redfern Station being upgraded? The project is being delivered as part of the Transport Access Program, and is the first stage in renewing the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct.

Redfern Station is the sixth busiest station on the rail network, serving the community, businesses, education and health centres. The station upgrade will meet the needs of current and expected growth in the area.

The new concourse will:

• Improve pedestrian connections and flow in and around the station

• Reduce congestion

• Provide a direct link with lift access to Little Eveleigh and Marian Street from Platforms 1 to 10.

What is a shared zone? Shared zones are spaces where pedestrians have

priority. The speed limit for vehicles and cyclists

in a shared zone is 10km/h, which is down from

the 40km/h on a typical residential street. While

motorised traffic (other than residents’ vehicles)

would be discouraged, access would be allowed for

service vehicles such as delivery and garbage trucks.

Access to private driveways and garages would

also remain.

Transport for NSW is working with City of

Sydney Council, residents, NSW Police and other

stakeholders to develop plans for a new shared

zone on Little Eveleigh Street and extended shared

zone on Marian Street that meet the needs of users

including commuters and residents.

Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct updateThe new southern concourse at Redfern Station will improve accessibility to public transport and help people move around the growing area. This new infrastructure will help unlock the potential of the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct, 10 hectares of Government-owned land along the rail line south of Redfern Station. This area will be a key part of the Sydney Innovation and Technology Precinct, providing opportunities and facilities for the local community and promoting economic growth for the entire state.

The NSW Government is currently working on a vision for the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct. Over the coming months, we will be engaging with local stakeholders and community to find out what they would value on the site and how they would like to be involved in its renewal.

Platforms 11 and 12

We appreciate that station users want access to be improved to the underground Platforms 11 and 12. Transport for NSW is investigating options for developing the land to the east of Redfern Station, above the underground T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Lines.

These investigations include improving access to Platforms 11 and 12, which would make Redfern Station fully accessible. Transport for NSW would consult with community, stakeholders and station users on proposals for improved access to Platforms 11 and 12.

Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to commence in late 2020 and would take around 18 months to complete.
