February 21, 2016 • Second Sunday Of Lent 3
A Note From The Pastor… As I men"oned at the Masses last weekend, I would like
to personally invite everyone to receive the Sacrament of
Reconcilia"on some"me during Lent.
On the Saturdays of Lent, there will be expanded hours
for Confession, beginning at 3PM. In addi"on, we will have
a Lenten Penance Service on Monday, March 14th, at 7PM.
A&er a short Service, four priests will be available for
individual confessions.
Other Parishes in the area will also have addi"onal "mes
for Confession. St. Patrick’s in Wadsworth will have their
Lenten Penance Service on Tuesday, March 15th, from
7PM–8:30PM in their main Church, just down the road
from us.
St. Dismas in Waukegan will have the following
Reconcilia"on Times/Services:
Friday, February 26th: Holy Hour and Penance Service 9AM
Friday, March 18th: Confessions 6–7PM
March 21st, 22nd, & 23rd: Confessions 7:30AM
Next weekend our Parish Mission begins! Fr. James McIlhone, Director for Biblical
Forma"on for the Archdiocese of Chicago, will give the Mission with the theme being
“God’s Mercy”. The Mission dates and "mes are: next Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday,
February 28th, 29th, and March 1st. We begin each evening at 7PM with Evening Prayer,
and will conclude around 8:00 or 8:15PM. Titles for each evening’s talk:
Sunday: “Our God: Merciful and Just”
Monday: “God’s Mercy in The Old Testament”
Tuesday: “Luke’s Portrait of A Merciful God”
Please a#end as many of these evenings as you are able. Enter into the Spirit of Lent by
listening to Fr. McIlhone, a gi&ed Speaker, Biblical Scholar, and Theologian. And may we all
con"nue to diligently persevere in our Lenten observance.
Blessings,
Fr. Paul
4 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
Our Parish Mission
Next weekend our Parish
Mission begins! Sunday, Monday,
and Tuesday, February 28th, 29th,
and March 1st, at 7PM in the
Church. Fr. James McIlhone,
Director for Biblical Forma"on for
the Archdiocese of Chicago, will give
the Mission with the theme being
“God’s Mercy”.
On March 13, 2015, Pope Francis announced an Extraordinary Holy Year of
Mercy. The purpose of this Holy Year is to concentrate on how God’s Mercy
has been ac"ve in our individual lives in order to become conduits of God’s
Mercy toward others. In these evenings of reflec"on, Fr. McIlhone will
examine the no"on of God’s Mercy in the Bible, especially the Gospel of
Luke, which has been called the Gospel of God’s Mercy.
Fr. James McIlhone, a Priest-scholar, Professor at the Mundelein Seminary
for 23 years, is an Author, the Recipient of Academic Honors, and the Director of Biblical Forma"on for the
Archdiocese of Chicago. He gives Missions, Seminars, does Radio Programs, Days of Renewal, and is a resident at
St. Edward Parish. Fr. McIlhone also has an excellent Online Bible Study, “Word Made Clear.” He was ordained
in 1974.
Fr. James McIlhone was an only child, and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. He a#ended St. Laurence
Church and Grammar School, and from there he went to Quigley South, in Niles, and St. Mary of the Lake, in
Mundelein. He got his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies at Marque#e University in 1987.
Irish Roots: “I’ve got a family forest (not just tree) of about 7,500 people. I’ve been to Ireland 15-16 !mes.
Basically, my family is in Ireland. My mother and two of her sisters came out to this country, and my father came
out to this country, but the rest are all in Ireland. I have a first cousin, Father Dan Sullivan, re!red up at Lake Villa.
He’s my closest rela!ve nearby.
My mother was from County Limerick, and my father was from County Antrim, so I’m the Green and the
Orange. My father was Catholic, although from the North.”
Fr. James McIlhone has a down-to-earth approach to the Good Book. “It all depends on how you view the
Scriptures – if you see them as literature, about what happened 2,000 years ago, then you’re going to end up
being rather stuffy. If you see Scripture is about someone who’s alive today and ac!ve – Jesus, you will talk about
it like the person down the street. And the only way to get to know Jesus is through the Scriptures. Are you
looking at them as a document, or as something that’s leading you to faith? That’s the dis!nc!on.”
“I teach like I preach – and my classes were well received by the seminarians. The last ques!on I asked when
we’d finish a text was: ‘Now how would you preach that?’ Then direct them, and force them to wrestle with the
text, and come up with something to say. Not just look at the local homily aid.”
This will be an excellent aid in helping us through our Lenten Journey. We will begin each evening at 7PM with
Evening Prayer, and will conclude around 8:00 or 8:15PM. The "tles for each evening’s talk will be as follows:
Sunday: “Our God: Merciful and Just”
Monday: “God’s Mercy in The Old Testament”
Tuesday: “Luke’s Portrait of A Merciful God”
All are invited and welcome to a#end our Parish Mission. We look forward to seeing you there!

response has been wonderful. We
are again asking for your support.
If you wish to help sponsor the
Campers, please write your check in
any amount to:

Eucharis!c
Adora!on
“Could You Not
Watch One Hour
With Me?”
Jesus waits for us
in the Blessed
Sacrament. He waits for our li#le acts
of faith, adora"on, love, thanksgiving,
repentance, repara"on, and charity
that we can offer Him as we
contemplate – His Divine Majesty –
in the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote: “Of all
devo!ons, that of adoring Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament is the greatest
a&er the Sacraments, the one dearest
to God, and the one most helpful to
us.” The Eucharist is a priceless
treasure: By not only celebra!ng the
Eucharist, but also by praying before
it outside of Mass, we are enabled to
make contact with the very
wellsprings of Grace…”
Pope John Paul II in one of his
homilies said, “It is pleasant to spend
!me with Him, to lie close to His
breast like the Beloved Disciple
(cf. Jn 13:25), and to feel the infinite
love present in His heart… If, in our
!me, Chris!ans must be dis!nguished
by the “art of prayer”, how can we not
feel a renewed need to spend !me in
spiritual conversa!on, in silent
adora!on, in hear'elt love before
Christ present in the Most Holy
Sacrament?”
Do something meaningful during
this Lent, please consider coming to
Eucharis"c Adora"on on Thursdays at
2PM. Come, bring your whole family,
spend some "me with the Lord, and
receive His blessings! He is wai"ng
for you!

Renew My Church
Archbishop Cupich has wri#en a column in the Catholic New World
and Católico on the Archdiocesan planning process. “Renew My
Church” is an Archdiocese-wide process to strengthen Parish vitality for
the long-term future. This process will con"nue over the coming
months and years, and will be carried out in wide consulta"on with the
clergy and laity. The Archbishop’s ar"cle was published in the
February 7th issue of the Catholic New World which will arrive in
subscribers’ homes this week, and also may be found on the
Archdiocese of Chicago’s website, www.archchicago.org, in English,
Spanish, and Polish.
Restore The Church – Build The Future
For many in the Church in Central and Eastern
Europe, as well as parts of Asia, the a&ermath of 70
years of Soviet Rule is s"ll felt in the form of poverty,
infrequent pastoral care, and lack of buildings where the
faithful can worship and cul"vate their faith. Your
support is needed to strengthen the Church in this
region through grants that fund projects that promote ministries for
children and families, create affordable housing, and provide a cultural
and spiritual educa"on. Please be generous in the Second Collec"on
the weekend of March 5th and 6th. Your gi& will con"nue to restore
the Church, and build the future in Central and Eastern Europe.
