A Note From The Pastor…
As I men"oned at the Sunday Masses last weekend,
Fr. Mike Owen will be serving here at OLH as a part-"me
Associate Pastor. Fr. Mike’s responsibili"es will be split
serving at OLH and at St. Patrick’s in Wadsworth. Fr. Mike
is finishing up his assignment at Queen of the Rosary in
Elk Grove Village, where Fr. Ed Pelrine was serving prior
to serving at the Mundelein Seminary.
One of our parishioners, Alejandro Rivera, son of Ernie
and Nancy Rivera, will be leaving us to enter the Franciscan
Friars Minor in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Here’s a link to the
religious community that he’s entering:
h#p://www.franciscanfriarsminor.com.
Blessings to Alejandro in following the voice of the Lord in
his life.
Summer is fast approaching, and soon children will be on vaca"on. Our Eighth Graders
will celebrate their Gradua"on Mass this Friday, May 26th, at 5PM. Please keep them in
your prayers as they move on to High School. At their Confirma"on Mass last Saturday,
Bishop Rassas, quo"ng St. Ambrose, told our Eighth Graders to “Take firm hold of the
Rudder of Faith.” Let us pray that they keep the Faith alive in their hearts throughout their
lives.
This weekend, for those who receive the Blood of Christ, we are using a new Altar Wine:
Mont La Salle (named a*er St. John Bap"st de La Salle, founder of the De La Salle Brothers,
some"mes referred to the Chris"an Brothers, but not to be confused with the
Congrega"on of Chris"an Brothers, founded by Edmund Rice). Mont La Salle Altar Wine is
made according to the requirements of Canon Law, and is approved for sacramental use.
Their website states, “There is no gluten or wheat product(s) present in Mont La Salle Altar
Wines.” The only reason for the change is that I prefer this par"cular Altar Wine.
Congratula"ons to Phil and Sandy Tobin who are celebra"ng their 50th Wedding
Anniversary this Saturday. They will renew their vows at the 5PM Mass.
Please keep Alejandro, our Eighth Graders, as well as all young men and women in your
prayers, that they listen to where the voice of Jesus is leading them in their lives.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul

6 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
RCIA RCIA is ready to take our summer break. Classes for this year have just finished. Our RCIA Team
is: Arturo Bahena, Abba Range, Rich and Marcia Marek, Kim Whiteside, Gaston Placa, Alejandro
Rivera, Deacon Marcelino and Brenda Hernandez, and Gerard and Kelly Metoyer. We want to
thank Our Lady of Humility Church Family for your support and prayers throughout the year for our
Candidates. You have been an inspira"on to them by your weekly presence and welcoming spirits,
as well as each of the Candidates being an inspira"on of commitment to us throughout the year.
Special thanks to you who sent le#ers and cards of welcome to our Neophytes – Church language for new
Catholics :) – at the Easter Vigil. They were very much appreciated.
Our Sponsors: Karmann Wimmer, Rich and Marcia Marek, Kim Whiteside, Alejandro Rivera, and RCIC Sponsor:
Francisca Montoya, deserve our special acknowledgment this year. They accompanied their Candidates each week,
and at all rites and celebra"ons throughout the year, giving welcome, support, affirma"on, and witness to their Faith.
Sundays were special days for RCIA, when the group was sent forth a*er the Homily at each Mass to further dwell
on the Scripture readings for the day, and what it meant in our daily lives. The Team and Sponsors took a turn or two,
facilita"ng these “Break Open the Word” Sessions a*er the Homily of weekly Masses.
In addi"on to the Team, Bonnie Tipton, Ryan Krueger, Jack and Arden Robinson, Mike Mercure, Pete Owen, Leslie
Hazinski, Deacon Askew, Fr. Paul, and Fr. Anthony Jelinek, were guest presenters throughout the year. Thank you,
one and all, for sharing the fruits of your love, faith, experience, tes"mony, and exper"se.
Tremendous thanks to Fr. Paul for his frequent presence and full support to the Team. We appreciate everything
you have done to help us.
May none of us ever forget the precious prayer of our Lord and Savior Jesus as He prayed for all believers:
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of
them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may
believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are
One. I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me, and
have loved them even as You have loved Me.” –John 17:20-23
Now, we would like you to meet our new Catholics, and our RCIA Candidate who is con"nuing to prepare to come
into full communion of the Catholic Church:
My name is Julia Hach. My husband Dan and I have lived close to Our Lady of Humility for 10 years, first in
Waukegan, and currently in Wadsworth. I have lived in the Chicago area for 17 years. I moved to the area from
California to be closer to family here and on the East Coast. I am interested in art, quil"ng, crochet, gardening, and
reading, as well as my family, (of course). I’m the Art Teacher here at our School, and also work elsewhere 3 days a
week as a Paralegal.
My son Reuben started at OLH in Pre-K4, and is currently in 2nd Grade. My husband and I have always tried to
par"cipate in School Life, and by extension Parish Life, and have always really appreciated the welcoming community
here at OLH. We have o*en observed and appreciated that welcome is extended to everyone who comes through
our Parish and School doors, regardless of whether a family is Catholic or not. I was raised Lutheran, in a family made
up of equal numbers of Roman Catholics and Lutherans. When I was a child I o*en wished I was Catholic, and felt
a#racted to the richness of the Roman Catholic religious life. The Saints and Angels, the 2,000 years of tradi"on s"ll
observed today, and the many celebra"ons and obliga"ons Catholics par"cipate in, all bring color to day-to-day life as
a Chris"an that I have never experienced, but am so happy to have found through our connec"on with OLH.
My name is Antonio Olvera. My wife’s name is Cassie Olvera. We have been married for 9 years. We have been
blessed with 5 children, all girls: Mya (9 years old), Vanessa (7 years old), Milagros and Vida (2 year old twins), and
Camiliana (3 months). Sadly, Milagros passed away a*er 32 hours of life.
I was brought up in a Catholic household, but was not very ac"ve in our church. I decided to join RCIA to finish my
Sacrament of Confirma"on, which I decided to do as a support for my wife to start and finish her Sacraments.
I have enjoyed all the welcoming support from all the Sponsors and fellow Candidates. Since joining RCIA, I feel as
if I have become less distracted by worries. I have been told that I seem more relaxed, and more leaderesque. I trust
the Lord to help me lead by example, and help me in spreading His word even if it may be in a humorous manner.
May 21, 2017 • Sixth Sunday Of Easter 7
RCIA – cont’d My name is Cassie Olvera. By law, I have been married to my husband Tony for 9 years. During our marriage, we
have created a beau"ful family. If you ask my older daughters, they will tell you we have six children: we had a
miscarriage, and believe our first pregnancy would have been a boy, Mya (9 years old), Vanessa (7 years old), Vida, my
fourth daughter, 3 years old soon, Milagros, who passed away 32 hours a*er birth, and our newest addi"on is
Camiliana, and she is 3 months old.
I was not bap"zed as a child. I wasn’t truly introduced to any religion un"l my daughters started to a#end Our Lady
of Humility for school. I started to feel some peace a*er a#ending Mass. The last couple of years were rough, and we
stopped coming to Church. During the middle of this past summer, I told Tony “Let’s go to Church”. I felt empty. I
needed and wanted to go back to Church at Our Lady of Humility. Coincidentally, when we came back to Church, there
was a flyer for religious classes. I knew it was a sign; it was "me for me and my daughters to become Catholic. I have
truly enjoyed going to RCIA on Monday nights. I am slowly applying more prayers throughout my day. I no"ce a small
difference in myself.
Prior to RCIA Classes, I’ve always believed in God. I always knew He had a plan for me, and He wouldn’t give me
anything that I’m not capable of doing. I feel a stronger connec"on with God now than I ever felt before.
My name is Cathy Coles. I was introduced to the Catholic Faith by my fiancé, Brian Coles. My Sponsor is Brian’s
mother, Karmann Wimmer.
Brian and I have been da"ng for four years, we have a daughter, Julie Marie, born February 10th of this year, and are
planning to marry in the Church as soon as we are able to do so.
I did not have any religious upbringing, so my RCIA journey has had a big impact on my life. I have become more
aware of God in my life, as well as having made wonderful friends who have helped me understand the many ways
God’s presence and the Church are so important to me.
Hi! I am Emily Bartle$. I recently got engaged to Alex Jones who is the man that brought me to the Catholic Church.
I have a 5-½ year old daughter, Haileylynn. I work at Abbvie in Waukegan as a Customer Service Representa"ve, but live
in the Kenosha area. I am very eager for the warmer weather so that I can ride my bike and just be more ac"ve. I enjoy
doing artsy things and reading books, but my favorite thing to do is be surrounded by the people I love. Many people
have asked me why Catholicism? My answer would have to be that its one religion that just makes sense to me.
Everything they do is backed up by the bible. No one religion in my mind is perfect, but being Catholic to me is a no
brainer. I feel the Eucharist, which you cannot get anywhere besides the Catholic Church, is the closest way to be to
Jesus. I have always felt that my primary goal is to be like Jesus as much as possible, and what be#er way to grow more
in Him and be like Him than to take His Body and Blood every Sunday. I have really loved the RCIA Program, and can’t
wait to interact with the OLH community, and grow more in my faith!
My name is Aus!n Mink. I live in Winthrop Harbor, IL, and I’ve lived there my en"re life so far.
Prior to star"ng RCIA, I was agnos"c. My families’ faith background are as follows: agnos"cs, atheists, protestants,
my Aunt Cheryl and her family on my mom’s side are Lutheran, most of my family down south on both sides are
Southern Bap"sts, my Aunt Renae, my Uncle Cuco, and my cousins, now Godparents, Diana and Daniel are Catholics.
When I was a kid growing up, I was around the Catholic Faith, but was very much looking at it through a keyhole with no
understanding of what being Catholic or a Chris"an really meant.
I went to Catholic Mass at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Kenosha a couple of "mes. I even took Eucharist once when
I was a kid, and when the priest gave me the consecrated Body of Christ, I looked back at him and I asked, “Do I eat it?” I
went to a few fish fries on Friday nights at the parish. It was always a great "me with amazing people.
Out of all the Faiths, the Catholic Faith has been around me more than any other. I love storytelling. My lifelong
dream ever since I was sixteen, was to be a filmmaker. My grandmother, Sheryl Mink was an amazing storyteller, and
shaped my love for storytelling, she introduced me to Stephen King, told stories to me before bed"me when I stayed
over, and introduced me to praying. My father was a big part of my love for film, we used to watch films like Star Wars
and Jurassic Park, both of those films shaped my love for film very much.
I consider myself a crea"ve minded person with passion and ambi"on to do what I love
for the rest of my life. I love Our Lady of Humility Parish, and can’t wait to be a bigger part
of the Parish and the Catholic Faith.
8 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
Rosary Making Workshop The Legion of Mary will host our first Rosary Making Workshop of
the year, and it is this month, May, which is the month of Mary.
We invite anyone who is interested in learning to make a
Kno$ed Cord Rosary to Donut Sunday this Sunday, May 21st.
Teachers will be available from 9AM-12 Noon to demonstrate the
technique. (An experienced person can make an en"re Rosary in
approximately one hour.)
We also invite those who joined us in the past to come again, and make more Rosaries, or just pick up twine.
We have several different kinds of twine available now, including some new ones.
Our Lady is pleased when we teach others to Pray her Rosary. She wants to shower the world with graces, but
needs our prayers in order to be able to do so. And what be#er way to encourage people to Pray the Rosary,
then by giving them a Rosary you made with your own hands.
Nine Reasons to Pray the Rosary Daily:
1. For World Peace.
2. As a means for calling down God’s blessing upon the family.
3. For courage in facing the hardships of life.
4. As a steady means of nurturing and persevering in the Faith.
5. For healing the evils of our day.
6. For learning Chris"an perfec"on.
7. For success in one’s voca"on in life.
8. As a powerful means of obtaining graces from God.
9. To grow in holiness, and enjoy the special protec"on of Our Lady.

Open For 2017-2018 As a Catholic School in the
Archdiocese of Chicago, Our Lady
of Humility School takes pride in
providing an educa"onal choice
for families who are looking for a
small Catholic School where
children are treated like family,
and an emphasis is placed on
community. For the past fi*y-nine
years, families have enrolled their
children at our School because
they recognize the difference the
right school makes in the lives of
their children. While much has
changed since 1958, one thing that
hasn’t changed is the care and
compassion we have for our
students, and our commitment to
educa"ng the “whole child”.
While academics are rigorously
emphasized, equally important is
the social, spiritual, physical, and
moral development of each child.
Our teachers, all of whom are
state cer"fied, and highly
educated, u"lize a research based
curriculum and best prac"ces to
maximize the talents of each child.
Accredited by the Archdiocese of
Chicago, and recognized by the
State of Illinois, we embrace the
changes of an evolving world,
while educa"ng children to
appreciate a Faith Tradi"on that is
over 2,000 years old.
Our Lady of Humility School is
truly, “Catholic and Excellent”. For
more informa"on, contact our
School Office at (847) 746-3722.
We will be happy to speak to you

Kindergarten, or Elementary
School Programs.

A Taste Of Heaven Awaits Us In Eucharis!c Adora!on! Indeed, Earth is joined to Heaven each "me we are united with
the Saints and Angels in extolling God, who, in worship we see, if
not with the sight of eyes, then with the eyes of faith.
We are called to abide in the Eucharis"c Presence of our Lord,
like the Saints and Angels do in Heaven, as they behold the glory of God, and
sing His praise! The Saints and Angels wait upon the Lord, and do His will in
all things. Their presence magnifies the Lord. They also intercede for us
before the Lord.
When we look upon the Sacred Host, we look at Jesus, the Son of God. Do
we see Him in all His glory and majesty? Do our lips proclaim His praise? Do
our souls magnify the Lord – making Him clearer, more in focus, and larger to
others around us? Do we place the needs of others before Him? Are we open
to the will of God, and strive for perfec#on in our spiritual lives so that we,
too, may one day join the company of the Saints in Heaven?
It is at this moment when we are most in"mately in communion with God,
that we experience a taste of Heaven, a foreshadowing of what it will be like,
when, by God’s grace, we enter into everlas"ng life. “Indeed, this is the will of
My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, shall
have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day.” (–Jn 6:40).
Do something special during this upcoming Summer, please consider
coming to Eucharis"c Adora"on on Thursdays at 1PM. Come, bring your
whole family, spend some "me with the Lord, and receive His blessings! He is
wai"ng for you!
